As we always like to take a short trip to celebrate our Anniversary this year we decided on The Ashby Inn in Paris, VA which is a short ride from Middleburg on Rt. 50. The Inn itself dates back to 1829 with three buildings that include the Inn, Restaurant and School House. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly manager who quickly showed us to our room in the adjacent School House which turned out to be perfect for us. We had the “Settle” room which was on the first floor and had a private balcony that overlooked the Blue Ridge Mountains. Tons of antiques and a very comfortable King size bed and a large modern bath and TV, coffee maker and refrigerator. Everything was spotless! Our dinner was fabulous with great service and in a small private room that also had another couple which gave us all plenty of room. Wine is sold by the glass and the list had a large number of interesting choices to choose from. As we were more than full we passed on the deserts but they did appear to be tempting to us. The following morning we had breakfast served in the restaurant and it was very good as well with a variety to choose from with fresh ingredients and excellent service. All in all a perfect stay in Virginia Horse country and we plan to return as it was that good.

We spent 2 nights at The Ashby Inn over Columbus Day. Our typical weekend getaway venues were booked, and we had never been to Paris (Virginia), so we booked here. Great experience. We stayed in one of the schoolhouse rooms, which was nice, and made good use of the fireplace one night. We also had a fire out in the lawn (for a $50 charge, which we thought was a little odd, but still worth it). The little one-lane remnants of the town of Paris is charming, and the inn provides a little walking tour guide of the history of the various houses and former commercial buildings, which was great. Hiking Sky Meadows / AT and Middleburg were both great day activities.

We just got back yesterday. I was very impressed by everything. This place is the "Cat's Meow". The Ashby Inn is nestled in the very heart of horse country in a quaint town of Paris, Virginia. You can make your restaurant and room reservations online or call by phone. The staff I spoke with were very friendly, professional and quite knowledgeable. The room I selected was the Lafayette. It is a snug and cozy room. Trust me, two people can navigate the room without tripping over each other. There is closet with ample space and two robes. The bathroom has two rooms: one has a vanity with two sinks and a nicely lit mirror on the wall. The second is the tub/shower with the toilet. We also had a mini fridge stocked with sodas and water with a individual style coffeemaker on top: for tea or coffee. Two comfortable chairs in front of a real fireplace. The bay windows overlooks the yard and herb garden in back with a comfortable cushion to lounge on. The doors to the balcony have a glass door and screen door. You have full control of the thermostat and ceiling fan: you can do air conditioning or simply use the windows and screen door for a nice breeze off the country hillside. Once on the balcony, you get a whiff of a cornucopia of aromas from the trees and flowers of the grounds. All so very nice. There is a circular window high up on the wall. You can lie back on the queen size four poster canopy bed and watch the clouds roll by. This is a high end place to stay at; but worth it. The restaurant: the chef's artistic flair of his creations are beyond compare. The food was superb: sight, smell and taste. We were outside and got to see a beautiful sunset while eating our dinner. The ceiling fan and breeze off the hillside was nice. If you are cold natured like I am, wear a long sleeved shirt. I had my dress suit on and was very comfortable. You can dress business casual if you like. You can have an intimate dining experience there for two for $200.00 dollars plus tip. My girlfriend doesn't drink so my bill was $188.00. Again..... this place IS the "Cat's Meow". A very memorable and enjoyable experience to treasure.....as they would say in the 80's....."for sure".

We had a group of 4 couples who stayed overnight for a B-Day party. Service was excellent and food was great. They went the extra mile by setting up a fire pit for us to roast marsh mellows. Room was great too. We had a fridge that had drinks stocked which was a nice plus.
