Aroha Island offers a range of accommodation: Aroha Kiwi Lodge, our bush cottages Fantail Cottage and Tui Cottage as well as beach and bush camping. It’s the perfect place to just relax or to use as a holiday base to explore the Bay of Islands. Aroha Island offers camping on one of our two beautiful campgrounds. Unpowered sites down by our sheltered Kerikeri inlet beach or a choice of powered or unpowered sites in our upper bush campground. Aroha Island is a 12ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet and is a short 12km drive north east of Kerikeri, in the stunning Bay of Islands. A causeway links the island to the mainland, providing permanent and convenient vehicle access. It is a natural haven with a wide diversity of New Zealand plants and birds including the rare North Island Brown Kiwi.(You must stay on the Island to go for a Kiwi walk or phone or email for a guided Kiwi tour). Stroll the private beach, kayak the inlet, take a bush walk, look for birds and check out the information in the Eco Centre. Please note because of the presence of Kiwi & the sensitive nature of the island, a “No Pets, No Smoking” policy is in place, thank you.

I am sure this place is not for everyone since it is outside of town. We loved staying here for the wonderful quiet location where you wake up to gorgeous sunrises and the sound of birds. We walked on the nature paths each morning and evening to view all kinds of birds

We stayed 5 nights over NY with our family from The Netherlands. We brought our tent and they travelled by motorhome so we needed both a powered and non-powered site. They put us right next to each other in the corner, so we would have our own little part where the kids could

We stayed one night in our motorhome and were very impressed with the clean and modern facilities. A lovely spot surrounded by nature at its best. While we didn’t get to see a kiwi we enjoyed the experience of wandering the tracks at night in the hope we may spot one. Well

"Beachfront can be a bit windy, but a really awesome spot. Up in the bush is a bit more sheltered and also lovely!"
"Camp right next to the beach."
"Non powered sites are by the water, powered sites are about 50m from water."
"Tui cabin is big and right in the middle of the forest!!"
"Lodge is attached to exhibit area. Might be noisy during school outings or summer. Quiet for us at end of January. Other cottages are attached to each other...like a duplex. Go for the lodge and the views."
