This hotel is quite beautiful for the most part and the location is superb, but they have some rooms, (cottages) which are terrible and won't be upgraded for two years; we were told... ...The restaurant is still really good , we love the diner musical atmosphere... our room has new windows, and a great bed with excellant sheets which aren't tucked in well... My complaint is the room decor looks and feels like borrowed or found early college thrift stuff... 2 Heavy immovable actual wood stumps for coffee tables (I really hurt my back trying to move one ),4 large clunky uncomfortable chairs without a hassock , a single round bathroom mirror that gets fogged up... We still love it here but they needed to have kept the some of their nice old rattan bamboo furniture that we remember ...

We were multi generational family traveling so had 3 rooms... Royal Lahaina, saying you are renovating does not bring comfort to those who have to stay in rooms that are old, moldy, and have paper thin walls (literally heard someone cutting their nails) and it is without conscience that you would offer those out... For a lot of people Maui is the trip of a life time and if you are stuck with a poor room you will have a bad sleep and possibly worse from the mold... If you are lucky enough to get a decent room (as we had one out of the three ) it will make all the difference... I can't imagine some of what she has to deal with on a daily basis due to the uneven experience guests have due to decent rooms versus decrepit rooms... We didn't have our room cleaned for three days (garbage attracted cockroaches, no toilet paper) and Kim saved us... Again, management you should really check your policy of letting out the horrible rooms...

...We had a reservation for a one room bungalow... We walked into a horrible smelling old rundown dump with a bed,a wall air unit with exposed cords,no light to turn on as you enter the room, the carpet had to be 50 years old, the blinds were broken, the room was basically bare and the bedside lamps(that’s all there was for light) looked like they were glued to the nightstand... This had to be the worst room in the entire resort... My husband and I decided that we could not stay for even one night in this place... They said they would move us to a partial ocean view room in the tower for an additional $60 dollars a night... The room was a major improvement but still so very old even though she said it had been updated... They charged immediately for stay so we were stuck... We have 3 nights to go and then will be moving to the Marriott...

The walls are paper thin, so you can hear EVERYTHING that is going on in the rooms around you and it feels like it is in your room... Several times we thought someone was breaking in but it was just the room next door opening and shutting their door... On our first morning here we called housekeeping to ask them to service our room because it just felt dirty... The only downside is we had to be out of our original room by 11am which gave us no place to stay all day even tho we were paying for a room... The programmable thermostat in our 7th floor room was new and none of the staff knew how to program it... Consequently the AC would turn off in our room during the heat of the day and in the middle of the night so our room was really hot and we didn’t sleep well... Place is nice BUT if you’re looking to book a trip to Maui I would recommend to find a better hotel.. these people will literally try to charge you for breathing in their hotel. If I’m paying over 1,000 to stay at a hotel like this I’d expect at least complement breakfast or something but even then they charge up the ass for that.. oh and fyi they don’t tell you they charge you a fee of $190 just for staying at the hotel even after booking until it’s charged to your credit card & you can’t do anything about it...

...The “royal” feeling came crashing down... You are charged $40 per day as a resort fee which gives the privilege of using two towels with the option to pay $150 A DAY for two beach chairs and an umbrella... Tip: stop at Costco and buy a chair for $30 or better yet research as to where you can rent Beach chairs for $3 per day... Not sure how much the cabanas were to rent but nobody was renting any of the beach accessories... The food was expensive but tasted ok... Otherwise, spend your money elsewhere... ...However, Kaanapali Ocean Inn is an extremely worn and dated hotel (built in the 1960's??)... The cheap wood doors and moldings showed significant splitting and rotting from water damage... We paid extra to get an oceanfront room which was a blessing as anything but an oceanfront room has no view whatsoever... However, with the supplement for the oceanfront room, we essentially got a tiny deck looking directly at the ocean with views partially blocked by the vegetation that had grown up (halfway through the week the gardeners mercifully trimmed the vegetation at my request)... ...We arrived very excited to celebrate our honeymoon...upon checking in we were told that we couldn't have a king room or even an upgrade to a suite because they only had us booked for a double room (we used a travel agent who made sure a king was on the books). I had also called numerous times prior because the email from the hotel I had stated a double room as well... After check in, we went up to our room, which besides the view of the ocean, was highly disappointing... If you are going to spend +$600 per night in Maui, go elsewhere... We tried to tough it out for a night, but the beds weren't comfortable and I woke up with my eyes swollen from being allergic to what I can only imagine was mold... ...When we asked for compensation they offered to take resort fees off ($40). With further details they offered to take parking fee off... Manager offered fees refund or room upgrade, not both... We were told this was their “economy” building in the area with “lowest” prices... We were extremely disappointed with the condition of the service and the quality of the room for the amount we paid... We wouldn’t recommend staying at the koi building at this property...

...After we complained they moved us to a disabled suite on the 7th floor late the next day. The only downside is we had to be out of our original room by 11am which gave us no place to stay all day even tho we were paying for a room... For the price, the hotel needs to update some things... We rented beach chairs & umbrella at Snorkel Bob’s up the hill as it was much more affordable than the hotel... Best view around but will still go with VRBO or Airbnb (instead of Costco Travel) next time for the price...

They insist on only cleaning the room every other day... We were in the more remodeled and better room for five days and out of those five days they only cleaned the room once... We were taken to our room by a very friendly bellhop who opened the door and stepped aside for us to enter... We absolutely loved our stay in the bungalows at Royal Lahaina Resort... The bungalow was not modern and fancy, but it was really nice, very comfortable, and super clean!... We had everything we needed and it was perfect for our family of five... We had a gorgeous view of the ocean and the golf course!... The two pools were fabulous (although quite cold), we really enjoyed the pool bar and restaurant, and it’s right on an amazing beach!... The bungalow had a kitchen with microwave, full size refrigerator, stove top, Keurig, dishes, silverware and utensils, glasses, mugs, pots and pans... It also had two full size beds, one king size bed, two bathrooms, and a sitting area... My parent stayed in a smaller bungalow with a full ocean view that had been renovated... No kitchen, but it did have a mini fridge and a sitting area to enjoy the view...

After researching venues across all the Hawaiian Islands, Royal Lahaina was by far the best choice!... We had the most amazing experience having our wedding at the Royal Lahaina... The bartender kept the drinks flowing and kept the guests happy for the whole night... Royal Lahaina is also located in a lovely spot!... There are also 2 pools at Royal Lahaina... We naturally were at the more adult and kid friendly pool that had a bar... This allowed for the guests from hop back and forth from pool to the beach and back to the pool... We stayed for the whole week in one of the bungalows... We had the option to stay in the tower, but the bungalows were awesome!... We were steps away from the beach and pools... It also gave easy access if any of our guests needed a bathroom... All of our guests that stayed at the resort loved their whole experience... The resort is also along the beach walk path... This is perfect for those that want to get in a run or walk... Whalers village is less than a mile away... Royal Lahaina is also very close to Front Street Lahaina - which means that many good restaurants are just minutes (driving) away!... Stephen is so kind, hospitable, generous, and so welcoming... I will always suggest this venue to anyone looking to get married in Hawaii!...

We’ve been to Maui several times together and this was the best place we’ve stayed! We booked through a Costco package and had an Ocean View room (which was amazing but was on the side of the building so if you want a room at the front you need to select ocean front)... The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, including front desk, housekeeping, the ice cream/coffee shop, the poolside towel/rental spot and especially at the restaurant/bar!... We love swimming and the resort has two pools right off the ocean and the resort is right on a nice sandy beach where you can swim in the ocean, so you can go back and forth from pool to ocean... We also rented snorkel gear one day and paddleboards another... The restaurant and beach bar are also poolside with an ocean view and have fun tropical cocktails, good food, and a live singer/guitar player in the evening... There is also a beach walk that takes you to whalers village in about 20mins to shop and eat... Would highly recommend staying at the Royal Lahaina in Maui!...

Our first trip to Maui and we picked a great spot. The Royal Lahaina was a great hotel... The hotel restaurant and bar were also great... Interesting option to have the beach/pool bar as a hut by the ocean....But it worked... If you want a thrill you can stick your head under water and actually hear whale song!... We got an upper floor ocean front room which was beautiful in every aspect.... Had a great time...

The Royal Lahaina has always been our favorite stopping place on our walks from KOR. We have been walking here for 20 years and the staff at the bar/ restaurant that overlooks the magical Hawaiian waters has always been the friendliest people ever- always making us feel like family! They have an amazing happy hour and have added many items to their bar menu in which the flat breads are one of our favorites!! Thank you Mate and Ford for your hospitality! #mahalo #lahainastrong #ohana

This was my very first time staying at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui and by far the most memorable vacation that I will never forget! I was immediately welcomed when I arrived in their beautiful lobby by their friendly staff who made me feel at home. The resort is just steps away from the beach where you can watch humpback whales and go for a swim. The resort offers activities the traditional Hiu Wai which is a Hawaiian Cleansing Ceremony at sunrise. This is a must-do! My room was very clean and the balcony views of the ocean were breathtaking. The thing that I most appreciated about this resort was that it made us feel like family! Every employee on property greeted us with a smile and warm hello or farewell. I highly recommend this amazing property. Will definitely be back.

We stopped into the Royal Lahaina, Ocean Terrace for happy hour. We were greeted with Aloha by Lyle. The food and beverages were delicious and very reasonably priced. Ford, visited our table, thank you for making us feel like Ohana! 🤙

We schedules our hotel stay with this cheesy outfit in April of this year. We arrived on schedule, Oct. 9, and were told that our reservation had been canceled just 3 days prior to our arrival. Obviously we did not do it, neither had Alaska Air Concierge. I had no problem if they had notified us about the cancelation IF due to locals needing the room, but they blatantly disregarded our plight when we arrived there. Alaska Airline should remove them.

"These are among the Enjoyable Experiences I'll always remember from my wonderful stay at The Royal Lahaina Resort at Ka'anapli Beach Maui." 1. The Wide, soft, sandy, walkable beach that's close, but not too close to Whaler's Village for shopping and dining. A sense of privacy beach. 2. The Tranquil ambience in the hotel's lobby, restaurant, bar, outside pools, flower gardens and walkways.  3. Meeting Chico, a wonderful longtime employee who is the Hotel's "Flower Arranger". She amazes me with the most beautiful leis/flower arrangements. 4. The Front desk hospitality from friendly, assistant, Kim and others. 5. The Relaxing and dining at the "Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant/ Bar" while listening to Hawaiian music and gazing out at the dreamy blue ocean. This happy, happy place, just Takes me away! 6. The Beauty of tropical paradise when walking around the resort on walking trails, just listening to the birds, the rolling waves, and the tropical Palm trees swaying in the breeze! 7. The Lovely Hawaiian decor hotel Room with the comfiest bed, large balcony, views of the wide sandy beach, crystal blue ocean, and gorgeous Islands of Molokai and Lanai.  8. Having beach fun, lawn games for families, two swimming pools kept immaculately clean. 9. Having good times, getting to know the Hotel's staff of Bartenders, Restaurant Managers, Cooks, Hosts, and Housekeepers who provide the highest service to their guests. Restaurant/Bar employees Jose, Mate, Mark, Roger, Jeff, Michael, Mike (camera man), Melissa, Eric, and many others are the best at making your dining/bar experience memorable. 10. Many hotel employees lost their homes/ belongings due to the Lahaina Fire. I'm Grateful to them for their Aloha Spirit. 11. I'm thankful to The Royal Lahaina Resort management who housed their workers and others who became displaced from the Lahaina Fire. 10. Nice, having good times getting to know the Food & Beverage Manager, Ford Ushijima. He's a real treat and an inspiration to know. Ford, whose been a Royal Lahaina Restaurant manager for many years, will greet you with a big smile and nice words every time you see him, (no matter how hard he's working). Ford is such an asset to the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant due to his joyful presence and accommodating service! I've enjoyed his wonderful personality, and his sharing of stories of the Islands' history.  14. Nice, having good times getting to know, the newer, Royal Lahaina Restaurant manager, Matt Jenkins, who really  gives excellent service in welcoming dining guests at the hotel's, Royal OceanTerrace Restaurant. Matt's welcoming smile elevates the dining room's vibe and makes dining in the restaurant fun with his witty personality! 15. Wonderful, to be served Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner meals at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant. Thanks to the Director of Foods, Jason, and to hardworking, Prep Cook"Bandana Mike".  Mike was so thoughtful to bring out a cupcake with a candle for my birthday celebration. 16. Nice meeting Stephen Hinck, the Royal Lahaina Resort General Manager and Yvette Kitagawa, the Director of Hospitality/Rooms. They manage this hotel so well. That's why it's the guest's favorite hotel! Thank you, management! Staying at The Royal Lahaina Resort has been a lifelong dream, come true! Mahalo, for this hotel's wonderful Aloha hospitality!!

It was my first time staying at Royal Lahaina and I was there for my daughter’s wedding. The wedding coordinator and staff at the hotel made our stay as well as the wedding enjoyable. Starting from the omelette guy ( if you get Bfast there you’ll see him, nicest guy ever) front desk people, and everyone at the hotel was amazing. Really enjoyed our stay there. Highly recommend it!

advised working on the cottages. stayed in the tower. workers were looking into my room. construction debree on the patio couldn't use it. front desk said that that is what i payed for. booked through Air Canada vacations. Kitchen was very slow and limited. Walked out at breakfast as it never came. Checked out and told them the bill was wrong. They said they would fix it. Not only did they not fix it, they increased it. Someone was using my room number for their meals. Got home and contacted them and they again said they would look into it. Last I heard from them. Suggest you cancel your credit card when you leave.

My family and I stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort and Bungalow Aug 3-8 plus 2 days dues to the fires. First and foremost I'd like to thank the entire Royal Lahaina staff for their continued kindness and generosity during our stay. I cannot imagine it was easy especially remaining clam without full knowledge of their own families wellbeing and property. As mentioned in pervious reviews the hotel is older however renovations are taking place. Our rooms were spacious, clean, and the beds were very comfortable. There are several tennis courts on property and my sister and I were able to play a few games. Pro tip, get the breakfast buffet! The food is delicious with fresh fruit and other breakfast favorites, however the pastries and omelet station are the stars of the show!! The views surrounding the hotel and pool area are picturesque and the ocean was literally a few steps away. My family and I also enjoyed the Luau offered by the hotel! It was informative and provided valuable insight into the Polynesian culture. My favorite part about the resort was the tranquil and peaceful vibe! The pool area and beach chairs were never crowded. Thank you again for a wonderful stay and a safe trip to the airport!

Check in was easy with a friendly staff. Stayed in a bungalow. It was clean and comfortable. Had a nice patio that overlooked the grounds and the ocean. For the price of the rooms not having daily housekeeping seems odd. The beach is easily accessible and was not crowded. Bring beach chairs. The resort only provides them for a charge which again for the price you pay to stay seems ridiculous. There are 2 pools. They stayed pretty crowded most days The resort charges a daily parking fee if you have a rental car. We stayed a week and the parking fees add up. This is a negative. The on-site luau was entertaining and the food was ok. It was a good experience but not necessarily worth the high cost. The resort is just a 10 minute drive to the shops, bars and restaurants on Front Street. We ate there every night Lots of variety and better value then the restaurant at the resort Check out was easy. The resort is about a 30 minute drive to the airport depending on traffic
