i have been to this resort 5 times now and just love it!We had our trip from Feb 14-24 2023 i found the food to be the best it has ever been in my opinion..they had many options to choose from and many places to eat at...the buffet was only open for breakfast and dinner. there was a barbeque of pork and chicken for lunch at the salt water pool...there was pasta and pizza for lunch at the regular pool and when those were closed they had ham and cheese sandwich with fries at the outside bar across from the lobby...they also had hamburgers down by the beach for lunch..you definately wont go hungry..they had turkey twice in the time we were there!! This is the oldest resort in Cayo but has so much character...i love the layout. The rooms are ok...need a little updating but everything worked and bed was comfy One thing they do need to do is to put the shade things back at the regular pool...there is absolutely no shade...not sure why they took them away because they used to have them...not many people were sitting around this pool because of this reason...as a repeat client you are suppose to get a few perks, but we didnt recieve anything this trip, and we met a single travellor and it was her first time there and she got all the perks...that was strange but i didnt say anything to the front desk...maybe next time i will if we dont recieve anything...im really just there for the sunshine and a good time so wasnt bothered by this too much. the beach is one of the best anywhere! the staff are amazing as well! Looking forward to going back next month. I hope you enjoy it if you go!!

This was my second time at the Colonial after having been there in Nov 2022 when it had just reopened. Great people, good food and very clean. They are continually updating and improving. If you are looking for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation this should be on your A list !

I was at the Colonial for 9 days with my 4 year old son. The staff was very welcoming and made us feel at home. The entertainment team is amazing, to say we had a great time would be an understatement. Big mentions are Junior, Elvis & Dayanny, as well as Nato in customer relations. We loved everyone there and can’t wait to go back.

My wife and I were at the Colonial from February 18th to the 24th.( Was supposed to be the 17th to the 24th but that is an Air Canada issue) We had been there about seven years ago and looked forward to returning. Prior to the Colonial opening last November the resort had done some reno's and refreshed a portion of the resort and it showed. Our room, 1438 was amazing, close to all amenities, clean and newly painted with a great ocean view. The buffet at breakfast and dinner was delicious although selection was a bit limited and service was always with a smile . We were allowed two reservations at the a la cart's and we were also invited to the returning guest dinner, all three were very good with the steak and lobster at the returning guest dinner being the best! It was windy for part of our stay so the beach wasn't as pristine as we would have liked but on the calm days it was perfect, beautiful sand and clear calm water! We spent most of our afternoons at the salt water pool because there was a bit more shade but both pools were clean and well maintained. The pizza / pasta restaurant was our choice for lunch and we were never disappointed with the quality, service or variety. Our last day was Cuban day so it ended our trip on a high note with great food and music. Our departure wasn't scheduled till after 6 o'clock on the 24th so we paid 30.00 for a late check out which I thought was quite reasonable. Many thanks to the entire staff but special thank you to Alex , Jana and Aidel at the pizza / pasta bar. Isabelle at the salt water pool, our maid Rosy and Yanel at customer relations. You were all fantastic!! We will see you again soon!!.

We decided on Cuba due to the unbeatable prices. We have been to Cuba in the past and were aware of some of the limitations that the country is facing. If you are looking for bargain vacation to a beautiful country with great beaches this the place for you. If you are looking for shopping and exquisite cuisine this is perhaps not the country you want to visit. The highlights of our visit were the incredibly helpful and caring staff who try so hard to make things happen for you with their limited resources. The beach is truly the beach you see in pictures. Clear azure blue water. The weather was fantastic. The sun shines most of the time. Welcoming after a cold Canadian winter. The rooms were dated but clean. We had hot water every day and the toilets always worked. We had plenty of bottled water every day and if you needed more, they would gladly provide. Be aware that the food selection can can be limited but you will never go hungry. There is always something that you will enjoy eating. We want to mention the Customer Service superstars. Rodolfo, Hendry, Juan (piano bar) and Isabel (Saltwater pool bar) Ang and Phil

This hotel is love Lee architect of his lovely, but there was a lot of things that went wrong. You were out of water. Sometimes you couldn’t flush your toilet in the hotel room. The AC didn’t work, no matter how many times you went and told them that it didn’t work their food was OK. The best thing was the pool and the bartenders and they had churros.

I do not recommend this supposedly" 4-star " resort because they do not have a large selection of food and for example the meat was not cooked properly, in the a la carte restaurant my daughter found pieces of glass in ice cream, we waited for the ordered dishes for almost an hour in another restaurant, and we did not get a safe for the room, although we should have, because the resort provide this to tourists. Internet available, but it that to be turned on every day and the coverage was poor. Overall, I rate this resort a maximum of 2 stars ,staying in this resort is just a waste of time and money. We will never return to this resort.

We returned to The Colonial Jan. 26-Feb 6 and had a great time. They have worked very hard at bringing this Hotel back. It was very impressive what they have done while they were closed. My only recommendation would be to have more garbage containers so guests can help with keeping it clean. We had ample food and beverages at all times. The Chefs and serving staff worked hard to deliver what and how you wanted the food. We had an ocean view room that was well taken care of by Rosy. There were quite a few Russian Guests when we were there - this surprised me with the state of the world. Yes - they drink a lot. My real annoyances were their aggressive behavior at the restaurants - and their wastefulness of taking a lot of food and their treatment of the restaurant staff. All in all, we had a great vacation and will return. We have gone to this hotel for several years and felt this time was the best for all areas of the Hotel - reception, maintenance, management and restaurants. I do feel that their Customer Service Dept needs to get better organized, but I'll cut them some slack here, as it has been closed due to Covid and just reopened in November.

We booked Ibrostar in Cuba thinking it is a five-star resort. The resort facilities and services were really bad. Lobby toilets were not flushing properly, no toilet paper in the toilet. At the lobby bar lots of fruit flies and ants. At the buffet, cockroaches (live and dead) with food. Pool towels were not available during the full one week. Truely disgusting and very disappointed with our trip. I will never go to Cuba or stay at Ibrostar in the future.
