The Spinning Wheel is obviously a labor of love for Thom and Linda. It is clean, rustic, filled with hundreds of curiosities, full of light, and best of all, it has two of the most interesting innkeepers we've ever met. Our biggest problem was that our conversations with Thom and Linda were so interesting that we arrived late at our friend's house on a couple of occasions!
Most interesting of all is that Thom Nolan is a musician and singer and a member of a music ensemble called the "3 Sheets". For breakfast, Thom put on his delightful CD "The Light of Assateague", and my wife and I had a delicious egg souffle while listening to Thom's wonderful singing and playing. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase the CD during our stay and it has given my wife and me hours of enjoyment.
My wife and I loved the "Blue Room" where we stayed. The bed was fantastic. The walls were painted a beautiful blue and had amazingly interesting historic mantels. The bathroom was serviceable and it was easy access to the front door. The dining room is painted in a bright yellow and has a wonderful eastern exposure so you have breakfast with sunlight streaming in. Also, Thom makes a great cup of Joe. Breakfast came with a wonderful fresh fruit and toast accompaniment to the souffle.
All in all, my wife and I had a wonderful time at the Spinning Wheel. Thom and Linda are fantastic people and we felt like old friends when we left. You can feel the good Karma at the Spinning Wheel and don't forget to ask Thom to sing you song! The next time we return, my wife and I will definitely go hear Thom and the "3 Sheets" perform!
Breakfast was advertised as a full breakfast, but ours consisted of a fruit cup of hot apples and raisins, a piece of baked omelet, a muffin, and some press-formed hash browns. Our plates were filled by the host as we sat at the table, not brought in to us already filled and there was a small set amount for each person. Since we were used to a completely different standard, we left very disappointed (and hungry!). On the plus side, this inn is inexpensive by most standards so I guess you get what you pay for.
We go to bed and breakfasts to be pampered. However, this inn left us longing for home.
The bed in our 3rd floor room was perhaps the hardest bed I have ever slept on. Or rather didn’t sleep on. We had booked two nights but left after the first, tired and relieved to get away. I wouldn’t stay again and don’t recommend it.

The room we stayed in downstairs (blue room) was a decent size with a small en-suite bathroom and that had an excellent powerful shower. Tom was very hospitable and helpful and cooked excellent breakfasts. He packed us up a take-out breakfast on our last morning and even got up at 5am to give it to us which was above and beyond the call of duty. We loved to sit on the porch and watch the world go by... but be careful of the mosquitoes!!! I would recommend the Spinning Wheel to any one who is passing by this way and if I ever do I will definitely stay there again.
Dogs are welcome in their one downstairs guest room. Breakfast made by Thom in the sunny dining room was a tasty and perfect beginning to a new day of travel and exploration. We love traveling the more relaxed eastern shore on our way south to the Carolinas or Florida, and Onancock is a welcoming little town we discovered a few years back. Comfortable bed in a quiet room with friendly, knowledgeable hosts!

It was wonderful! Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We brought a bottle of champagne and had mimosas one morning.
Thom was the perfect chef and host. He had plenty of suggestions of things to see and places to eat. Onancock has several really good restaurants. We liked Mallards, Bizottos, the Market Street Grill and Janet's Café. We particularly liked Mallards, where Johnny Mo came out of the kitchen to sing us a song. What fun.
I can also recommend going to By the Bay Alpacas in Pungoteague. Be sure to call first- you can find them on the web. Chatham Vineyards is nearby, and we can recommend a wine tasting. There are several art studios in town to visit.
As you can see, there is plenty to do around the Spinning Wheel Bed and Breakfast. At 5:00 they offer drinks, cheese and crackers and some other goodies. A perfect way to wind down after a day of FUN.
"There is a guest refrigerator in the hall. The largest room is the one on the first floor."Read full review
