A very reasonably priced B&B that caters for journeymen and tradesfolk, also those folk attending the local technical college. The rooms are, well, interesting. Clean enough and warm but with eclectic decoration. Wifi is hot and miss, and its efficiency is entirely dependant on if the bloke next door is streaming a film. Breakfast is okay but I would guess... More

It is interesting to read the other reviews. We too had a bit of the "Basil Fawlty" treatment. My husband was sure he had booked a twin room as we always do, but Pete assured us he was right and we had not. Difficult to argue. However we found the room very disappointing with the toilet in a corner of... More

Quiet, tucked way location looking over the site of a very well restored opencast mine which finished near twenty years ago. The breakfast was very good and the best feature of the stay. The room was clean, value for money but was no frills eg pillows weren't comfor table. Kettle didn't work which was a minor issue looking back but disappointing... More

What a lovely Easter weekend. My wife and I took our puppy away for the weekend and chanced upon Rolands Croft due to it being dog friendly. Although we booked last minute, Pete (the owner) had given us the log cabin with lovely views, ensured it was nice and warm by providing a heater and gave us a great welcome.... More

We stayed over the Easter weekend (3 nights) in the Poachers Cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed it...... Very quiet & relaxing location and that's what we wanted and its as described ... Our host Pete was charming and always interacting with his guests at breakfast time which makes a pleasant change....overall we give 9/10 as there's always room for a... More

I guess for most short stays these rooms are great value with breakfast included The proprietor has, however, seemed to model his customer service approach on one Basil Fawlty! Initial 'welcome' was an impatient flicking through the diary and a short 'disagreement' around whether we had pid a deposit online... We were right we had via Booking.com! Ok so he... More

we stayed here for two nights, however we had a one night away in between, Pete allowed us to leave our stuff in the room while we were away and left us with a key as well. our room was huge, quirky, but clean, warm, everything worked. Breakfast is served across the courtyard, but was cooked to order and HUGE.... More

We stayed over one night and enjoyed the warm welcome promised in other reviews. The room was clean and comfortable and the bed gave a very good nights sleep. Breakfast was generous and exactly what we had expected, complimented by just the right amount of good old Yorkshire humour. We have dug deep for a con and were only able... More
