The Ermitage, a charming country inn in Château-d'Oex, opened its doors under new management and after a major renovation on 20 December 2019. Located in the Pays d'Enhaut, the beautiful mountainous region of the Swiss Alps, the Ermitage offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities. The Ermitage is like a family home where guests will receive a warm welcome to the highland region. The restaurant offers a varied menu with a wide choice of local products. In the tea room, visitors can enjoy the traditional afternoon English tea and homemade pastries. Each room has a balcony with a choice of orientations - north or south. The shared spaces are warm and welcoming and include a restaurant, a café, a wine bar, a reading area, a private dining room and a large terrace with a view. Guests will also find a yoga and pilates room, a mini sauna and a games room. The boutique “Cabinet de Curiosités Ambulant” is a unique feature of the Ermitage that reflects the owner's flair and eclectic tastes. Sophie has a long-standing relationship with each of the artists and craftsmen who created these unique pieces and considers the Ermitage an ideal setting to showcase their work and promote their talents.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed 10 nights at the newly refurbished Ermitage at the end of January/early February. The staff went out of their way to ensure that every need was catered for. Having visited the hotel in the past, the interior and exterior are much brighter with pine balconies replacing the original metal railings. As we were involved with the ballooning event and other members of our team were staying at neighbouring villages, we seldom ate at the hotel restaurant other than for breakfast, which was more than adequate. We will definitely return again next year for the event. Good luck for the future, Sophie.

A very newly refurbished and charming Chambre d'hôtes. Sophie and her excellent team made us feel very welcome to celebrate the new year. Super confortable beds, delicious food cooked by an Italian chef and lots of innovative and local produce (including home made soap made by artisan herbalist). This is a wonderful project full of potential and with Sophie’s passion, generosity and hospitality will no doubt be the place to visit. Looking forward to come back in the summer!
Thank you team.

Our evening meal here was a truly wonderful experience.
We sat in the garden, with a lovely view, under the lenden trees, surrounded by plants (and with the chickens nearby). The service was attentive and friendly and the food delicious. As the evening grew cooler we enjoyed the warmth of the brasero and the two colder of our party also used the blankets that had been thoughtfully provided.

What a pity. After a tasteful refurbishment my mother, who is a resident of Chateau d’Oex and I, came today for lunch at 1.30. The restaurant was not so busy. We sat at our table and waited 10 to 15 minutes to be given a menu. The menu was uninteresting and the food was unexciting and expensive for what it was. The wine was good and reasonably priced. As a retired restaurateur of 3 decades in my opinion the overall experience lacked the refinement of food and service that should have complemented the surroundings.

Dull, massively overpriced, really poor service. Small portions, insipid food, unimaginative choices. The mark-up on wine is nothing short of criminal. Superficially traditional and attractive, but a complete waste of money.

Very nice room, large, clean and tastefully decorated. Nevertheless a little disappointment: pity that it is not mentioned on the site that breakfast is not included in the price. Even under the "Restaurant" tab there is no information about breakfasts.

Hello Ermitage
I think that in this hotel is great but just the meals was average. For example for supper we just only had one choice and the potion was a little bit to small. Maybe in the future you may give us more choices Otherwise all the rest in the hotel was great.
In general I recommend people to come to this hotel
Thank you

Dear Sir, Many thanks for your feedback which is really helpful for us. I just wanted to tell you that we normally have a normal "menu" and that, because of this particular time, we reduced our offer. But I'll still make the feedback to our chef. We hope to see you soon again, Your Ermitage Team

We are sorry that you had to wait so long for your dessert. As you rightly mention the restaurant opened at the busiest time of the year and it has been a challenge to find the right level of staffing. We are committed to providing quality and service to our clients. To this end, we are currently hiring more staff to handle a very busy period during the forthcoming International Balloon Festival where the Ermitage is already fully booked.
