We booked the Golden Sea View room all inclusive as it also included two sunbeds on the beach, on arrival we were offered a glass of cava and the kind receptionist explained how our wristbands worked and how you had to hand a card over for a drink at the bar (yes it does to an extent stop you from ordering lots of drinks at the same time but the gardens and bar area are very comfortable to sit in). Our room was lovely with the most beautiful views of the beach and area, air conditioning in the room worked well. We only had two sockets in the room (one in the bathroom for the very powerful hairdryer) and the key powers the electric which at times was a pain as you couldn't charge your phone whilst going to breakfast. However a minor detail, I am a vegetarian and the food was varied and delicious. A lovely girl from Estonia acted at the maitre d and you were shown to your table which made it feel like you were actually eating in a restaurant and drinks were brought to your table. I think the ladies name was Anna who run the restaurant and she was just so nice and spoke very good English. We ate most days breakfast, lunch and dinner and I didn't hear one complaint about the food. We booked a day trip to Barcelona and asked the hotel for a picnic bag which was more than generous. If you want your bed linen or towels changed, just leave them on the floor. On a Wednesday evening the hotel has a brilliant singer which we nearly missed as we didn't look at the noticeboard near the lifts, so always have a look to see what entertainment is on. The beach is a five minute walk away where you cross over the train tracks but all on one level. I had read that the trains were annoying to some people but I can honestly say they didn't bother us, although we were on the 5th floor. I would recommend this hotel and hope to return next year as it offered everything you would want and I hope they have a lovely successful summer as they all work so hard there and take real pride in what they do.

I stayed for a week at the Alegria Espanya on a friends holiday. I had a double room for sole occupancy. I found the room be very dark, old fashioned and out dated. There were no drawers to put your clothes in, only shelves. There was not a mirror above the desk were you would sit and do your make up or hair. The room was quite small especially if there was two people sharing. But, the worst thing of all was the view from the tiny balcony! It looked out on to awful flats with lines of washing hanging out, it was like being in the ghetto!! Dreadfully depressing!! In the evening there was a lack of comfortable sofas to relax in, only tables and chairs in the bar, so on a rainy evening we had to sit on dining room type chairs all night, so not ideal! There was a sort of lounge area in a basement but it resembled a waiting room at A&E hospital! Not a place you would want to sit in at all, it was more of a laundry store! On the roof is a small pool but there were only about 8 loungers and NO umbrellas so it was too hot and exposed up there and the roof top bar never opened. So, on the positive side, the staff were very good and friendly and the food was great! Lovely selection and replenish frequently. All inclusive drinks were good too even though the ticket system was a little bit annoying! The bed linen and towel were nice and fresh and the hotel was very clean. I’m afraid to say, because of the terrible view from most of the rooms and lack of a lounge to relax in, I wouldn’t return or recommend this hotel!

Start with the important bit... Food and drink: food was great. Loads of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Live action grill making omelettes, grilled meat etc. Pasta, salads, fresh bread, veggies, fruit and a wide choice for dessert. Food was a little cold. All inclusive drinks were local but fine, again a great choice. Not sure why you had to pay for cocktails when they could be made from 'free' ingredients? Room: we upgraded to the mountain view golden room and was glad we did. We had a huge balcony, lovely views, a seating area and sun beds. The pool area is a bit bobbins... Not enough sun beds and no bar out of season so it was nice to have somewhere other than the beach to chill. Rooms were cleaned, towels changed daily (if you didn't hang then up) and the bed was comfortable. Staff: friendly and spoke good English. Location: fab, right on the beach and a short walk to bars, shops and restaurants. Nice walk to the lighthouse and ruins. Overall, I think it's a great place for a week and for what we paid I think it was spot on. Would recommend for couples and families who are not too bothered about a pool.
