Go to the mountaintop and enjoy the scenery . Most who visit may not believe the belief regarding the black Madonna but you can appreciate the atmosphere of this place in the mountains and walk the prayer path
We took a superior room which opened onto the placa and found it comfortable enough. Don't let anyone flush the loo while you're having a shower though - the water became scalding hot. We loved the surroundings of Lluc, so serene and beautiful. A miracle wasn't needed for the monks to decide it was a good place to live. The food was plain and adequate. We wished they could they provide a kettle for people who want to make their own coffee for an early start. You can get breakfast food to go, if you ask for it the night before, but not coffee or tea. And in fact the breakfast coffee was pretty bad. They do make espresso but the espresso in the bar was better. However, it doesn't open earlier, in fact later.
We came and stayed for 2 nights. The room was clean and average. Breakfast was included, but mainly included bread and tapas related meats and cheese, which was somewhat a problem if you don’t tolerate gluten. The first day they had some gluten free bread, but the second they didn’t. Furthermore the restaurant at dinner was apparently only for half pension guest, which we found out going to dinner there.
What a joke... they say its open 24 hours but you get here just after 11pm and there is no one here... they tell you to ring a bell if you arrive late .. you ring you ring and nothing my advice stay away................. I had to sleep in the car ....
We’ve been here for two nights and has been a perfect stay. We felt like home thanks to the loving receptionists. We enjoyed the traditional food and sorroundings and we are willing to come back next year.
As we arrived a little early to check into our room, the folk on reception suggested we take a few minutes to go and see the lunchtime performance by the children from the Monastery's choir school. We were so glad we did - we were offered, as a result, a very different welcome and introduction to anywhere else I've ever stayed, really. Our first floor room was very comfortable (would have been nice to have had curtains it though), a good choice of food from the in house restaurant or (even better) the restaurant just outside the monastery itself. A very interesting museum and, all-in-all just a fascinating place to explore. I was actually glad, for once, I wasn't walking a long distance route and didn't have to move on the next day, but had time instead to just relax and get to know the surroundings a little more. Definitely do not miss the walk to the top of the mountain behind the monastery for the views.…
The two staff we met were both miserable (perhaps because end of season) and the walk around the gardens was a waste of time as all overgrown and unkept. The only high point was the very short, may be ten minutes maximum, performance in the Basilica by the choristers.
Stayed here for one night whilst walking the GR221. An interesting option providing basic, comfortable accommodation. A range of food options on site. Unfortunately the pool wasn't open due to 'no life guard'. Fine for a night.
I have visited Lluc monastery many times when on my bike and stopped for a drink in the cafe. This was the first time I ever ventured in and so glad that I did. I was with my wife and we parked up and bought the combined parking and entrance ticket which was only €10 for both of us and the parking. Great value. If you plan on visiting other places you can buy a multi visit ticket which saves you even more. Inside the monastery there is a great little museum charting the history of the school and monastery as well as Mallorcan history. The small basilica is very beautiful with the famous black Madonna statue as well as some amazing images. There is a cafe, gift shop and some beautiful gardens. Well worth a trip up the mountain to these amazing monastery. Would definitely recommend. …
It feels more like a dormitory than a hotel and you sure ain't getting no fancy perks here. But how can you complain for this price? And not too mention you're actually sleeping in what used to be the rooms the monks stayed in all those centuries ago. Now that is pretty cool! And I highly recommend wondering around these passages and courtyards very late at night when there are no people around and only your imagination. The monastery and setting itself is just ridiculous. But that's why you're here, isn't it? No one comes here just for the hotel. The 'official' restaurant downstairs is better than the others on campus. Their b'fast is rather good and everything else I had on the menu was worthy. In short, for the $$$ you can't beat this place as simple and bare bones as it might be. But I think that is the charm of it.…
