We stayed at the Hotel Cala d'Or in September 2021 for 7 nights, this was our fifth time visiting Cala d'or but our first staying in this hotel. When we first arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady front of house. We stayed on the top floor and had a garden view, the rooms were very clean and tidy with ample storage. The shower in the bathroom was walk in and extremely powerful. There was a mini bar in the room stocked with alcohol, soft drinks and snacks which were all reasonably priced. The swimming pool area is also kept to a good clean and tidy standard, luckily we managed to get two sunbeds everyday around the pool. We did find out that the hotel was only at 50% capacity due to the reluctance around travel because of covid 19 so you may struggled to bag a sunbed in the height of summer any other year. The food at the pool bar was lovely, we ate there most days for our lunch and the menu was varied and very tasty. We also had breakfast daily in the restaurant which again had a variety of different foods plus hot drinks. The location is perfect, you are right next to Cala d'Or (I think) beach and only a very short walk from all the bars and restaurants but not too close that you hear any noise at night. I did read some of the reviews before we departed and was a little apprehensive as some of them mentioned this hotel was 3 star at best and not 4, the hotel is spotless, the staff are friendly and attentive and the food is nice and varied. The hotel is very traditionally decorated in parts which some people may feel takes away from the 4 star experience BUT I definitely think it's 4 star - it's just a little rustic but clean and tidy and that's what counts. I'd definitely recommend Hotel Cala d'Or to anyone visiting the area and we would definitely rebook in the future.

Having visited Cala D'or on many occasion we had always admired the situation of this hotel and decided to give it a try. We spent a week in room 301 recently. We did not pay extra to get a sea view which was fine - as it was a big jump onto an already expensive rate and instead opted for Garden View. Really disappointed that the balcony was sooo small our knees were nearly at our ears and if sitting the wall was so high there was no view at all. If you looked over wall rooms below and to our left had huge balconies with sunbeds. Felt a bit like the poor relations. Breakfast - Cold options were absolutely fine. Hot options not so much. The plates were stone cold so the look warm food was so cold by the time you were back to your table. Also no choice of eggs except one day when we were offered Omelette (cold) - every other day was fried. I feel for a 4 star hotel the options just weren't good enough. This being said the hotel is very clean, has a brilliant position and reception staff went above and beyond to help with anything. We have stayed at several hotels in Cala D'or and probably wouldn't choose to come back here.

We wanted a two night stay at the hotel but had to book through a booking site as I could only book for a minimum of 3 nights on the hotels’ website. I booked a bed & breakfast package through hotels.com and had a confirmation stating that breakfast was Included within the rate. Upon checking in at the hotel, I was advised that it would be an additional €15 per person per day for breakfast. Having shown them my confirmation with breakfast included they still wouldn’t grant the breakfasts. I asked for a copy of the hotel tariff showing the cost of breakfast separately so that I could make a claim back to Hotels.com, but Hotel Cala D’or stated that they don’t do a room only price, all rooms included by breakfast. The price I actually paid through hotels.com worked out at exactly the same price as I would have paid for a B&B room directly at the hotel if I could have booked two nights with them directly. The Manager (Jose Luis Montano) was very unhelpful and unwilling to compromise in any way, with very much a “take it or leave it” attitude which I found disappointing. All in all not a great start to our few days, especially as we have stayed at this hotel several times previously, it’s certainly put a dampener on it.

Response from Rafel Nicolau, Director General at Hotel Cala d'Or

Dear Madame/Sir, We are sorry to contradict you but your comment is unfounded. As it was shown to you at reception in order for you to check your reservation (Hotelbeds reservation number 1-4852244) it is "room only" which means that it is WITHOUT breakfast. I think it is unfair that you take your frustration out on us because you made a mistake when booking your reservation or that Hotels.com has confused you. I honestly believe that the online reputation pages are not for this purpose, you do not provide any useful comments about the hotel, you simply let go your anger for something that is foreign to us. Regards,

This hotel is fantastic value for money. It is in a great location next to the beach. The breakfast is also good. Finally, the staff here were super helpful, friendly and spoke perfect English. They also gave great tips for restaurants on the harbour. Thank you

The hotel has unmatchable location, but possibly due to Covid the outside cafe and restaurants seem to be understaffed, we waited two hours for bar food and were still made to pay!. The hotel rooms and bathrooms are tired and 3.5* at best, showing its age in places. Can be noisy at night between rooms...
