Spent 7 nights here during the last week in September 2022, everything was excellent, and certainly the best location in Cala D'or. Staff were excellent from the front desk through to housekeeping. The breakfast staff were excellent and so accommodating. It does puzzle me about previous bad reviews as I think some people are mixing this hotel up with one of a similar name in Cala D'or. The only negative was the issues around towels over loungers (a continuing issue throughout the island hotels) and smoking by the pool. Guests placed their towels over loungers, very early, and then they disappeared for hours. Perhaps some 'policing' of the pool area would be in order and if no return within a certain period (1 hour) towels are removed to the pool bar to be reclaimed by the culprits! All in all, apart from the above everything was excellent. Thanks to all the staff - well done.…
The good thing is the position and the breakfast the bad one very expensive for a small and very noisy room. Quality and price does not match. they sold us the room with sea view but there was only a little side view. The breakfast is very good, the restaurant very nice abd in a beautiful position. In the rooms you can hear all your nabours what they do and talk.
We were extremely disappointed with our stay in this hotel, we arrived and we’re given very brief information at reception and we were then shown to a box room with no space at all . We had booked half board and cancelled it on the first night because the food was really awful and we left the restaurant hungry and had to go up town to eat , breakfast was not much better. The hotel in general could have been much cleaner especially the pool area , this hotel was very over priced for the standards it offered , the best thing about this hotel is location, we would not return
We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel. We were not happy with our stay, firstly there seems to be mostly British people staying here, consequently every morning they are rushing out to put their towels around the swimming pool. We queried with reception why they allowed this but they said it was up to guests. The beach is tiny, so it becomes impossible to even find somewhere to sit, that is not an exaggeration. The hotel itself is quite dated, the bathrooms are old with an awful smell as soon as the shower is turned on. The bedding and towels are grey and the balconies are so small you are looking straight at someone as soon as you step out. The only complimentary thing I can say is the the breakfast had plenty of choice and lots of fuits and usual items. We paid a lot for our room but after 4 days were glad to leave to go to Portocolom with more reasonably priced hotels and much nicer beach.…
Overall: we would definitely stay again but have some suggestions for improvement for the managers. A few simple things just dragged it down a touch and they are easily resolved. Vibe: We stayed at the Hotel Cala D’or specifically for its location and because it’s adults only (we have kids of our own and took them away earlier in the year, so it’s nice to get some very quiet time too). It’s lovely and peaceful as you would expect. There is music playing by the pool area and you can also hear the music from the beachside bar too. It’s kind of smooth cafe / loft bar vibes which totally suit the style. The hotel generally: It is clean, bright and tranquil. The front entrance could do with a little attention as it looks a little underwhelming when you arrive, maybe some more lighting and plants etc would help. The room we stayed in, 001, was lovely, a really spacious room with plenty of storage, hanging areas etc. The breakfast area was fabulous. Looking over the sea and beach with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. There was a great selection of food and Gluten Free options were available on request. The hotel is well air conditioned throughout. Our room: We we’re in room 001 which opens directly onto the poolside. The rooms have shutters over the French/patio doors so that you can control how much sun comes into your room. While there is a balcony area outside on the ground floor rooms, this one was so poolside you felt like you were sharing your balcony with the guests on the sun loungers. It wasn’t a place I’d sit with a drink on an evening. However it did have other benefits as you could literally step in and out of the room to get things or nip to the loo as you liked without having to do big laps of the hotel because you forgot something. When we first arrived I was disappointed about the lack of balcony experience, however by the end of our stay the benefit of proximity to pool far outweighed that! The air conditioning in the room was amazing. Really controllable and effective. The bed was two singles pushed together but we didn’t mind that. The mattress was super comfy. I thought the pillows were too although my husband wasn’t as impressed with those (pillows are very personal!). The shower would have been great except it kept getting too hot so you had to keep messing around with the temperature each time you showered and occasionally it flooded the floor a little. Mini bar was nicely stocked and reasonably priced. The room was cleaned daily and towels replaced regularly. TV had good channels (ITV, E4 Film 4 etc - better than many). Poolside: When I first saw the pool area I was really underwhelmed. It just didn’t look like the poolside of a four star. The pool is fairly small but plenty enough for an adults only hotel. It is tired though and needs some maintenance with chipped areas particularly around the whirlpool. While we were there they replaced the plastic grating around the pool edge which shows that the hotel does look to be addressing these things. The pool surround / tiles needed a good clean. We weren’t sure though if there were restrictions in place due to drought which may have meant power washing etc isn’t allowed (we noticed some other hotels pool areas looking a bit grubby too). The grasses and potted plants were all dying too and look like there weren’t maintained, again might well be due to watering restrictions. If that’s the case it’s understandable but if not, the hotel need to pay attention to those things. The sunbeds are ok, but in one of the lower areas they have more superior beds with cushions. They should upgrade to these for the main pool area. The parasols were really basic. They did the job but if they upgraded these it would make a big difference to how the poolside looks and feels. Small investment / big difference. Also there are no tables next to the sunbeds so you have to put drinks etc on the floor. There doesn’t seem to be enough beds for guests if the hotel is fully booked. You do have to get out early and get your towels on a lounger if you want one. And by early, I mean 6am. It’s a shame but there is no choice really if you want to make sure you can get a bed. The poolside bar and seating area however are excellent. The good is fabulous too. Not masses of choice but what there is is very good. Little extras: the pool bar staff bought melon skewers around and frozen hand towels out each day. We loved that- such a nice little touch. Other facilities: we didn’t really make use of other facilities. The gym is very basic with some equipment not working. There are daily trips and yoga etc so things for people to do but I can’t comment on those as we didn’t take them up. Beach: when we arrived the beach was beautifully clean and the water was crystal clear. The sand is really soft (not gravelly) and the water is shallow for a long way so great for little ones. However later into the holiday there was a huge storm. It really chewed up the beach and for the last few days the water was then a lot murkier with debris on top. That’s just nature but to note if you get there and the beach isn’t pristine….it might just be because of bad weather. Normally it’s lovely. Cala Petite beach bar: We loved the vibe of the place. BUT the staff are terrible. They ignore you until you wave in their faces they seem to be busy doing things, but not serving people. The lady that seems to be the manager reacts as if you are a burden not a customer. After going there a couple of times we just didn’t go again because the staff totally bring the vibe down. The poolside bar at the hotel is much nicer and the staff there are lovely. I’ve read loads of other similar reviews about this beach bar. The hotel should really look at this. It’s a real let down. Location: We have visited Cala D’or a few times and knew that this hotel is located perfectly. It’s right next to (has direct access to) the nicest beach of all that Cala D’or has to offer and right on the edge of the little town so from hotel doorway to favourite restaurants and bars the walk is less than 5 minutes. Wi-Fi: was good around the poolside and at the beach. Didn’t work at all in our room though, nor did 4G so that was a bit frustrating. Overall we loved our stay. We would definitely go back. The location is amazing and for just a few updates here and there it would be top notch.…
Holiday seemed great at the time although I do find it concerning that as a party of 5, 3 of us returned with severe infections to the ear. It concerns us as we met a couple at the resort and another family whom we have remained in contact with who also have reported ear infections. We are lead to believe that this may have somewhat to do with an unclean swimming area. This could also be a coincidence but I would be keen to hear from any other families that have had the same problem
Nice Hotel but don’t use beach bar. Attitude of staff is worst I’ve ever experienced. Better to use poolside bar as excellent staff here. Hotel was nice if basic enough. Reception staff need training in guest relations. Just for location and basic comfort I would stay here again
This review is specifically about the beach bar.We visited this place twice. The girl on the door who is supposed to welcome you is pretentious beyond words. The hotel is lovely and pool bar really nice good food and drinks here. However the beach bar is to be avoided unless you wish to to be demeaned. Some of the staff need to be shown how to treat customers by the staff in the pool bar who are lovely.
Lovely hotel with idyllic location on the beach, pool bar very friendly and welcoming, hotel staff the same, very welcoming. Beach bar staff though maybe need some instruction in customer service. Shockingly bad customer service, non attentive staff who then treat you with disdain when you take the initiative to order/pay etc. Come here if you want to be ignored and not valued as a customer. Such a shame as the rest of the staff are lovely.
Well located clean hotel with friendly helpful staff BUT action is needed by management to deter selfish guests who think they have a God given right to place towels and reserve loungers at 6am but not use them until nearer 11. Hotel management should unceremoniously remove those towels and the offending selfish guests will soon get the message. I counted a total of 90 loungers which is clearly insufficient for a hotel this size. The selfish actions of the guests might be deterred if the hotel introduces a small charge payable at the bar for a lounger ticket.
