Detailed Reviews

Hotel's Favorite
I'd like to preface this with an apology - I'm rubbish with names so can't remember all the names of all of the wonderful staff who made our holiday so special.
I'm going to give as detailed a review as I can because I know in the days leading up to my stay I spent much time on trip advisor to get excited and it's always a risk when picking somewhere new to stay.
From the second we arrived at this hotel our expectations were exceeded. I was slightly nervous due to the transfer time. This was something we were expecting due to other reviews but it was around 2.5 hours to get from the airport to the hotel, with us being the very last stop.
On the way back we were the first pick up and again, with 16 seats on the bus took over 2 hours from pickup to drop off.
THE ROOM
We arrived at 2:30am due to flight delays but were greeted with a smile and a glass of Champagne (or orange juice) before checking in and being sent onto our room. We were told there was food available should we want to grab something before getting settled, but at that point we were tired and desperately needed a shower.
We had booked in for selection club (which I'd recommend to anyone) and were in Block 6 with a gorgeous view of the ocean - on clear days you can actually make out Menorca in the distance.
The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. There's plenty of space, not only in the room, but on the balcony too. The bed was super comfortable and the facilities in the bathroom were great.
We had a whirlpool bath which my mum loved, but I was not as big a fan (I've seen videos on how dirty these can be and couldn't get this out of my head) but I'm sure this one was perfectly clean - just not something I could get out of my head.
Because of selection club, we also had added extras in our room such as a stocked minibar (plenty of soft drinks and a selection of little alcohol bottles) in addition to the daily bottle of water, a pod coffee machine with 4 pods per day (2 caffeine, 2 decaf) and access to the room safe (we had to get a key from reception before we could activate this) but these were all included in the room price (note the minibar was only filled on arrival, any further drinks we had to buy ourself which was fine and expected).
The room was cleaned daily and I ran into Marcella who was cleaning the room a few times - she was lovely and did a great job.
My only downside on the room (and this isn't something I think can be fixed) it was really hard to dry things outside. There was a little rack provided but due to the humidity sometimes it took a few days to get things dry - the hotel does offer a laundry service, I think this was €20ish for 5kg of washing.
THE FOOD
The food at the hotel is also really good, there's a wide selection and (although I don't have any special requirements) seemingly something for everyone.
For breakfast, we sat outside everyday apart from the days we had excursions and it was the perfect way to start the day. You can help yourself to coffee, tea and there's a wide selection of juices (all freshly squeezed) and there there's a wide selection of hot and cold food. Omelettes and pancakes are done fresh and you can see the food being restocked as you walk around. There's different foods for different guests, the two prominent ones were for German guests and English guests. Only comment on the breakfasts is some of the toasters / coffee machines are better than others. One toaster required the toast putting through 4 times to not just be warm bread and one coffee machine wasn't giving milk for the white coffee - this may have been fixed during my stay but I avoided this machine moving forwards.
The selection for lunch is also fantastic. You sit down with a menu in the bistro for lunch and again there's something for everyone. I tried a selection of meals from the ham and cheese (Mixto) toastie, cuttlefish pasta, salads and most importantly the seafood paella (which I will be dreaming of until I can try it again). We didn't have lunch everyday as we ventured out quite a lot and explored the island.
The options for evening meals are also great. At the buffet restaurant the menu changes based on the theme night. Themes I remember include International night (the only one we missed as we were at the a la carte), Mallorcan night, Mediterranean night, Mexican night (when the coffee machines and toasters were all wearing sombreros - a nice touch), Italian night and Asian night (my fave).
The food each night was varied and there was always something I wanted to try. The deserts were my favourite as myself and my mum would get a selection so we could try as many as possible. On our last night we discovered the ice cream fridge - something we wish we'd spotted much earlier.
Again, we were impressed with the options at the a la carte restaurants. The tapas restaurant was absolutely gorgeous and the steak at the grill was cooked to perfection - if you can book in, I highly recommend. Even better was that both meals were included as we had a 10 night stay.
THE DRINKS
Now... the cocktails. I made it my task to try all of them (apart from coconut flavoured ones due to personal preference) and made excellent use of the pool bar. A fear was that they would be the usually all inclusive lethal cocktails that taste like petrol - not the case at all and this may have been even more dangerous! I discovered a passion for Tequila Sunrises and Sangria.
Service times for the drinks were also speedy - all the waiting staff and bartenders work really hard and always came over with a smile. They were very busy at times but they kept going and served guests as quickly as they could without the drink quality being effected.
THE FACILITIES
There were always sunbeds available when we went down and due to selection club got 3 days free booking for the balinese beds (which we managed to book on the hottest day!).
The outdoor pools were always surprisingly warm and really easy to get into - I could have lived in the pools and they were the perfect place to relax. There's no inflatables and at first I thought this would bother me but it didn't and it makes sense so there's space for everyone in the pools (although they were never overcrowded).
The spa pool was warm, but in comparison to the outdoor pools was freezing! There's lots of fun things to try in there though so highly recommend a quick play and a relax. There's also a freezing water bucket and a plunge pool that you need to give a go!
It's by the entrance to the spa pool that you can switch out your used towels daily - look for the lifeguard. This was done in the rooms too, but not everyday.
I never found the gym, which was my only downside as I would have liked to give a spin class a go whilst I was away - I made up for this by taking part in water aerobics which was great fun and something that catered for many abilities. My mum has severe arthritis in her knees and could still take part.
There we also walks with Marcel - I never got a chance to do one of these as I was busy with everything else, but these looked great and there's info on these on the activity board (in an obvious place but I missed it until near the end of our stay).
We used the Spa one day, my mum and myself were booked on for the full moon package and it was well worth it. We had a discount thanks to selection club and I think we saved about €30 in total.
The package included a body scrub, full body massage and a facial - I fell asleep multiple times and cannot explain how good my skin felt afterwards. I think the names of our massage therapists were Eli and Arianna (they had magic hands and made us both feel very comfortable).
OUTSIDE VIVA
There's a supermarket and Spar just down the road, less than 5 minutes away, which were very well stocked with everything from snacks, toys, gifts, to beauty products / sanitary products should you need them.
The beach is close, but is a downhill walk. My mum slipped whilst we were away so her arthritis made it difficult to get down to the beach. The beach is beautiful but can get very busy. I'd also recommend avoiding the man selling umbrellas as he charged us €30 and then wouldn't let us leave with the umbrella - we basically rented it at an extortionate price.
Sunbeds down there are hard to get hold of unless you get there first thing so I'd recommend buying an umbrella from the spar or supermarket at a much more reasonable price - had we been more prepared this is what we would have done.
The sea is clean and perfect for snorkelling - we had a lovely day out once we got down there. It was also on a green flag everyday apart from 2 during our stay ( we went to Crete last year and had the opposite - so it was very nice to be able to swim). There's plenty of fish and pretty underwater scenes to explore. I'd recommend some swimming shoes as some of the rocks can be quite sharp and I ended up swimming further out than intended, so having the shoes to perch on a rock kept the experience enjoyable.
There's a bus every hour, which makes venturing further away a lot easier. You can have up to 5 people on the same bank card - just make sure to tap off the right amount of people when you exit the bus to avoid the extra charge.
We went to Cala Ratjada, Capdepera and Arta (There's a market every tuesday that you don't want to miss) and on our last day found the most beautiful beach we wished we could have spent more time at - Font de sa Cala. Pretty much if you get to Cala Ratjada you can catch a connecting bus to wherever you want to go from here. Just make sure you press the bell when you want to get off, otherwise the bus won't stop.
We also booked excursions through Jet2, although these were a little bit stressful - they were very long days due to the pick up times. Again we were the first pick ups (7:45am) and it often took 2 hours to complete pick ups before we could start heading to the excursion itself. We then wouldn't get back until around 6-7pm so it made it a very long day.
We went on a trip through the mountains (not great if you have a fear of heights / get car sick) to Port de Sa Calobra before getting a boat to Soller. We then got on the historic wooden train back to Palma, which goes over and through the mountains.
We also did a day trip to Palma aquarium, which was great as we got to go on a glass bottom boat trip in the shark tank but was absolutely crawling with children - this was very busy and the most stressful day. Someone also tried to pick my bag, but luckily I wasn't keeping my purse in there.
OVERALL
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone (over 16) to the point I am making plans to return next year for a girls trip with my friend - and I've never before gone to the same place twice.
My only suggestion would be some music by the pool, as it was really nice when this was left on for a little bit after water aerobics one morning.
It's the perfect place to relax and I didn't have any outstanding negatives. Again, I'd just like to thank the staff for being amazing. I'm rubbish with names so can't remember everyone but off the top of my head I'd like to call out Jose, Mario, Armando and Laura for looking after us.
Hopefully see you next year!

First and foremost, this place is immaculate!
From walking into the main reception on arrival our first impressions were of a sparkling clean environment!
The staff at reception were friendly, informative and professional and explained everything very clearly.
The resort was clearly well below capacity but there were plenty of staff around.
Our Royal Terrace suite was on a corner and had spectacular views of the beach from the roof terrace. Our other suite had a balcony and also a decent view.
The cleaning staff were all first class and courteous. I often saw them sweeping floors that already looked very clean đŸ˜„
The main food hall was immaculate and food was to a very high standard considering that sometimes all inclusive resorts can turn into a bit of a frenzy the food was plentiful and always well presented.
Maybe the idea of people wearing face masks when selecting food should remain in place. No-one likes to see people sneezing or coughing on self selection food.
The pool area was also very clean and I noticed the pool attendant spraying down beds with some type of disinfectant between guests coming and going ( a good idea to keep this post Covid).
The pool bar was always busy and often two people serving SUMAC seemed to work 24/7 always smiling and making time for a joke.
The outside restaurant where we ate lunch was also first class with food orders quickly served after ordering.
All food was to a good standard but Mizu was excellent with a seven course taster menu.
Memorable members of staff were Arturas,Javier (or possible Xaivier),Jasmin but they were all very good with smiles and all very friendly.
The small room by the beach restaurant was a good addition, but providing people are not abusing the service it may be an idea to let guests take a bottle or drink down to the beach.
Although I give this resort 5 out of 5 I do have two minor criticisms.
1. Despite the resort being at very low occupancy still some guests seemed to feel the need to lay out towels in the premium sunbed locations or cabanas, very early in the morning for the entire day despite only spending a few hours actually using them. I would include this as a job for the pool attendant and remove any towels from empty beds after more than one hour unoccupied (to give guests time to have a swim or get some lunch) and free up these spaces or other paying guests. Some Nationalities seemed worse. Saying no more.
2. On several occasions drinks orders appeared to either; take an age to be served(not great after time spent sunbathing) ,become mixed up not resembling the original order and sometimes go completely missing.
These were only minor issues and I would thoroughly recommend this place.
Positives are a 2hr-2.5hr flight.
1 hr transfer in taxi
Standard of cleanliness and food.
Overall excellent and excellent value for money.

We had already booked a rooftop Royal suite although the hotel had very kindly rolled the reservation forward a few times since we booked 20 months earlier.
The point to note is that since we booked they had introduced a new level of room for the blocks at the beach side of the site. However, we didn't think that the extra for the beach side was worth it and as the reception pointed out few of the beach side rooms can actually see the sea.
Top tip - we had asked for a suite at the end of the block as it would be more secluded and the hotel gave us one overlooking the pool and garden which was great. The rooftop terrace we had was very private and we got great sun tans. We chose to stay in the roof terrace virtually every day as it is your own private space, but were surprised that few other people used their terrace which was odd given the price.
The pool area was never very crowded but be aware that there isn't that much space around the pool.
The all inclusive that we opted for which whilst expensive did include an a la carte served meal at lunch time and it was a pity that they couldn't do this in the evening. Although once a week you book in the barbecue restaurant and another night in the Japanese which was very good albeit quiet.
Local area is quiet and we went for a walk on the beach and cliffs most days that we were there.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is in a quiet location, there's nothing immediately outside of the hotel to do, especially at night, other than the very good beach, a couple of convenience stores, one car rental and one clothes shop.
It has two salt water pools with enough sun loungers when we visited.
One pool has a swim-up bar.
Most days there is some kind of pool-side activity, aqua gym, darts, shooting, archery, petanque, table tennis, yoga, etc. They also organise group walks in nearby beauty spots.
There is evening entertainment at 9pm for an hour so, a different act each evening, something to suit most tastes and of good quality.
With all-inclusive package there is a good variety of branded drinks. All staff are very attentive, good humoured and a pleasure to be served by.
There are 3 restaurants, for all inclusive you can use the Ă¡ la carte evening restaurants once if you are there 7 days, or if 10 or more twice, but the availability is very limited so we only had one opportunity to try this service. We all hap
pened to chose the steak from the Bluemoon (by pool), which was large and excellent.
The lunchtime bar / restaurant, open until 4pm is a la carte too with a good selection to chose from.
In our experience the lunch time menu and food were much better than the evening selection in the upstairs buffet (Adagio) restaurant. They have themed evenings, rotating around a list of about 4 or 5 themes, but it was a bit of a small token effort with most of the food choices being the same each evening. The buffet had two problems, lack of replenishment of food meaning having to wait or just something else (this happens a lot) and the taste generally being quite bland (e.g. items labelled or expected to be spicy never was).
Unless the buffet improves, use the lunch bar/restaurant as your main meal and then eat lighter, if possible when you are A.I.
They sometimes have a live musician with breakfast, this would be better done in the evening.
In summary, I wouldn't let my comments about evening buffet put you off going, and would recommend if you just want a relaxing time at a good hotel with pool, evening entertainment, not too far from a beach with good, friendly staff.

The hotel is a good hour from the airport by fast driving taxi, or 2 hours 15 minutes if you are on a TUI transfer with the usual pick ups on the way. Arriving late at night, I was glad I had been allocated a taxi.
The hotel was much emptier than I am sure it usually is, partly due to it being school holidays and partly the plane was only around half full due to COVID.
The welcome was excellent and communication with the hotel was good before arrival. I was able to upgrade rooms to one with a garden, hammock and loungers which meant not needing to be round the pool every day. I had the choice of one with sun in the morning or evening and chose the one with evening sun. The garden was in the shade until lunchtime and it was around 2pm before the terrace got sun but it was then sunny through until the evening.
The room was very spacious with separate lounge, walk-in wardrobe and a bed in the lounge for a third person. The whole hotel was meticulously cleaned by an army of staff, including the room. There just seemed to be a shortage of shower gel on some of the days, and one day my room door had been left open with the lock keeping it open by the maid. This was slightly concerning as the safe was not working properly and I had items left out on the side.
The room was comfortable and good sleep available after the entertainment stopped at 11pm. The hotel remained quiet throughout the day without the loud music you get at some. It was only when the aqua-gym started at midday when you could hear the music.
The service in the restaurants was mixed, from not great to outstanding. In the evening it was good but lunchtimes was initially mixed, once having to wait nearly 15 minutes for a drink after sitting down, but by the end of the holiday was excellent.
Samu in the Pool Bar deserves a special mention. Happy to have banter with the guests and great service.
Overall a great place to stay if you are looking for a quiet holiday. A taxi is worthwhile rather than a lengthy transfer if you are on a short break. There is a snack on arrival if you are after the restaurant closes and I was offered breakfast even though I was leaving before the restaurant opened.

We arrived on Saturday 9th of April, a day after the season began, and it was a blessing as we were one of the only sets of guests there. For 3 days we practically had the place to ourselves which was amazing as the location, while close to other hotels, is so quiet, relaxing and idillic set amongst hills and nature. There are 2 pools, one which appears to be slightly heated and there are amazing canopied sun loungers that you would expect in a high end beach club.
Unlike most all inclusives that we have been to, they have an Al a carte lunch menu that has a variety of high quality meals. Also, unlike other all inclusives, all inclusive means all inclusive. Apart from a few high end drinks everything is included was was amazing and the staff were happy to create whatever cocktail/drink you wanted within their ingredient list.
Speaking of the staff, a special mention goes to Juan Miguel (Johnny) would runs the events and helps out with the night time entertainment. He is really friendly and helpful and genuinely wants the guests to have fun and take part in the activities available.
A special mention also goes to Juan who is one of the managers of the blue moon bar. He has a vibrant personality and you can’t help but be happy around him. He genuinely can’t do enough for the guests and makes each one feel like they are getting special attention because they are. He never stops working and is so attentive, even replacing drinks that we hadn’t finished before we had even thought about ordering new ones. He is a great representative of this hotel and I can’t speak highly enough of him as he made our stay feel like we were VIPs.
We stayed in the royal terrace with a jacuzzi and mountain views which photos couldn’t do justice. It was incredibly peaceful and the room had everything we needed.
I would happily go back and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with excellent service and food and drink.

The resort is quiet and has a fabulous sandy beach ideal for those looking for a quiet relaxing break. We arrived at the hotel by private transfer which is highly recommended as the resort is a fair way from the airport and avoids the many stops en route. We arrived to a smiling receptionist who promptly sorted out our details with a very cold glass of Cava which was most welcome. Our bags were swiftly whisked away to our room which was spotlessly clean and huge with a walk in wardrobe and separate living room and had everything you could want. Another nice touch was the unexpected delivery of a complementary bottle of Cava fruit and chocolates. The service in this hotel is 5 star the waiters/waitresses work so hard to make a very memorable stay, nothing is too much trouble and always with a smile. The restaurant has food for everyone vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and has themed evenings. We went all inclusive which was excellent and the restaurant operates 24 hours a day for those with early or late flights so you get food and a hot drink before you leave. A nice touch for the late risers is that they keep a continental breakfast going until 11:30 am. The pool bar is great where you get to try an assortment of cocktails and the waiters/waitress are always cheery and up for chat. There is always sun beds and poolside entertainment including water aerobics and relaxation which was always very popular. The entertainment team do a great job and there were plenty of activities including a gym, spa, shooting, archery cycling and horse riding at the ranch opposite. The evening entertainment was varied and of a high quality. There are two other restaurants which are a la carte the Grill and the Tapas both are worth booking upon arrival as they get booked up quickly and do not open every day. These are included in the all inclusive and you can visit each one once during your stay. The lunch menu is also a la carte and has an excellent selection that suits all tastes ice creams are available at any time of the day. There is entertainment every evening after dinner which we enjoyed and the vibe in the hotel, very friendly. I would very much recommend this hotel for single travellers as well as couples due to the easy friendly style. My only negative comment is that we went with Tui and did not see the rep the whole time we were there 10 days. All the Tui posters were in German for some reason and we booked our trip in the end through the Tui App. Cala Rajada is a good place to visit for night life shops and restaurants and the bus stops outside the hotel every hour and is about a 10/20 minute journey for a couple of euros. Note. You need a mask and cheaper to pay contactless rather than in cash. Timetables and maps available from reception. If you like walking there are organised walks everyday and the scenery is stunning over the dunes and mountain. Thank you to all the staff at Viva Cala Mesquida for such a wonderful relaxing break. Anyone thinking of going you will not be disappointed we loved it :).

One of the best holidays of our lives…from the moment we arrived to the moment we left our visit was made so enjoyable. The staff are fantastic! The rooms are so spacious and comfortable, spotlessly clean everywhere with first class Covid awareness. A very relaxing pool area with entertainment if you want it,rifle range, archery,Aqua exercises etc all managed by Hernan and his colleagues. There’s a very good selection of menus with a wide variety of choice and chefs who will happily make you anything away from the menu.
The spotless beach with its warm clear waters are a very short walk away and also a couple of little shops close by. People from all across Europe shared each other’s company and other than a very small minority of loud selfish people( who get everywhere) occasionally breaking the quiet environment it’s brilliant!
The manager Vincent and all of his staff make this a must visit complex and we will certainly be returning.. strongly recommend hiring a private taxi which halved the travel time to and from the airport.

Mostly very good but room for improvement.
We are a couple in our 50’s and 60’s that have been travelling for 8 weeks due to a long break/ gap year.
I chose this hotel as they offered a room with a private pool and it’s my husbands 60th birthday so we thought we might as well stay in luxury with all inclusive and Selection room benefits.
We stayed in the Viva golf Alcudia last September and found it perfect so we didn’t hesitate booking Viva.
Cons…
Firstly my biggest disappointment is that our pool is so cold that we haven’t used it and it was a very big expense!
We have been here 5 days and haven’t witnessed one person in their private pool, probably due to the same reason. I actually choose this hotel due to the heated private pool , so not great!
Many requests for more coffee, water, milk in the room but proves quite difficult and requests sometimes are made two or three times before met.
Fridge is not cold , again requests made to have a cold fridge but it appears off ,so any drinks are warm.
The only benefit that I see of having selection club that I’ve noticed is entry to a special area at the beach bar. This however does not include the beach bar restaurant. There is a small room adjoining the beach bar where you can help yourself to drinks and snacks and sit on high stools, nice touch and lovely views but no dining or service here.
There is no selection club pool at this particular hotel either so don’t expect that.
Pros…
Staff , especially the head waiter Juan? at the Blue Moon Bistro , absolutely impeccable! This man in particular is absolutely fantastic at his job and pays great attention to detail.
There is pretty good entertainment every evening.
Rooms themselves are lovely with comfy bed and sofa , showers have great water pressure and are luxurious .
The main pools are heated and very quiet with a very relaxed atmosphere .
Bars have loads of good drink options available on all inclusive.
Overall you have a feeling of generosity , with the all inclusive most drinks ( many are branded) are included .
The Blue moon restaurant is free to order anything you want from the menu with is a lovely touch.
If my pool was hot and my fridge was cold (and full ), I’d have given 5 stars and would have definitely returned.
Top tip for anyone thinking about staying here , definitely go all inclusive as it is worth it but save yourself the money and just go for a standard , non selection room as I don’t think anyone would be disappointed with what’s on offer in that category.

Dear guests, First of all we would like to thank you for choosing our hotel VIVA Cala Mesquida Suites & Spa 16+ for your vacation and secondly for taking your time to write such a detailed review. We are really sorry that you haven't enjoyed the private pool as you would have been expected it. As part of our maintenance routine we also do take the temperature and all the time it has been documented that the water temperature was at least 25 degrees. We do heat the private pools in spring and autumn but not now with the high temperature outside. We do apologize that the water temperature was not warm enough for you. We are also very thankful for all the praise and will pass it on to our team. Maybe you give us a chance and come back one day. We would be very delighted to welcome you again and recommend a Royal Suite with a jaccuzzi. Thanks again for your feedback. Kind regards The team of VIVA Cala Mesquida Suites & Spa Adults only 16+

Returned from this hotel last week (09/08/2022), and we have got to agree with the previous positive comments, what a wonderful relaxing holiday. From entering on the first day to checking out two weeks later, we could not have asked for anything more from ALL the brilliant staff. Food and service was first class in all the restaurants and bars, and like other reviews Juan made us feel very special and most welcome, and the other hardest working man in the hotel was the gentleman (sorry we didn't get his name) with a permanent smile who delivered luggage cases to the rooms on arrival. On the whole the evening entertainment was good, with the exception of the DJ nights who played inappropriate music for the audience age range, resulting in early nights for most. The rooms and the cleaning of (1112) was excellent, and we described the relaxing days by the pool as "Another day in paradise", met lots of lovely people (especially Ian and Alison from Scotland) which helped make the holiday special, therefore we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others,

Hi we asked for a kettle and it was provided - doesn’t seem to be standard but wasn’t a problem
We went on B&B basis so i am unable to answer this question.
I'll answer as i've now stayed. The tub is warm to hot but not hot hot. Although you dont need it too hot being in a warm enviroment.
You have to request a kettle, they've no problem in bringing it along with milk, sugar, coffee & tea bags, we borrowed a sml tea pot ftom dining room and filled it with milk which we brought back to the room.
ALSO, if you as fir room slippers they'll drop them off also
My husband borrowed the hotel wheelchair as his mobility is not good. It is okay on the way down but there is a slope so not so easy on the way back. It was too far for him.
