Great place to be if you want complete silence with an astonishing view on Fuengirola (If I'm not wrong), and with all necessary amenities, swimming pool a.o.
This place, tastefully decorated, offered us a real break from everyday life.
Many thanks for the warm welcome!
Magnificent and lush nature. The welcome at the Top.
possibility of breakfast on request, a real delight
We had the chance to stay in 2 different lodgings, with careful decoration
very comfortable and well appointed lodgings
la careza we will come back!
Thank you Laurence
The first thing we saw when arriving was a dog poop on the middle of entrance and thought immidiately that we should run but as we knew that all the places were full we stayed and just thougt that we deal with it. Then we saw our room "Shabby" and it was so small that you are lucky to fit in and the was no fridge in the room. Well we managed to change to bigger room and there was fridge and little bit more room but the lever of cleanliness was the same, really poor. The floors was full of trash and curtains filthy and bathroom floor disgusting and the bed was terrible with filthy old mattress and bedsheets.
We tried to spent days elsewhere so that way we managed. There is dog wondering free around and thats okay for me but we woke up every day for dog barking. Also you really hear all the noises around. The water of pool is so dirty that when you get out you skin has a layer of grease and everything. You can also see all the dirt in the bottom of the pool. There is a small terrace beside the pool and there is a grilling place too but you really can not grill anything as its so dirty. You never even see the owner as she is shopping all days and the husbend was golfing all days so there is no one to do the things that should be done.
It seems that the place maybe has been clean on five years ago but they have not realised what it takes to run the place or they are just careless and lazy as I saw many times owners just laying beside the pool or sitting around but really not doing anything for the place. When I asked to order a breakkie it was nmade according to their schedule, not for customer. It seemed that the customers were just a obligatory instruments to cover the expenses for the place but they really didnt want to do anything for the customers.
After three days we moved back to the smaller room as the bigger was booked and before we could go in the owner lady walked to our room and changed the nice new blanket for us and it was a first time I thought that now shes starting to try even a little but noooooo... The weirdes thing happened after we arrived back in late evening. The owner has been in our room when we was away (weird) and changed the nice blanket to old and fuzzy one. We asked about it and she said that it was only for the photoshoots she did.... Sooo, she did there some photoshoots when we were away and probably in the new photos the customers see a nice new blanket but in reality its not even really there as it was only the prop.
So weird place, so weird.
We discussed with many of the guests and all were disapointed for the cleanliness and one girl was so upset that she could not even put her makeup bag to the bathroom table as it was so filthy so she put a towel under the bag. I was on my flipflops 24/7 and could not walk any where without them. I have loaded a lot of pictures so let them speak the rest.
One weird thing still... The owner has saw my review on Booking.com and she sent me whatsupp after that (what the hell?!) and its also on my pics there. She said that we left the room unclean and only thing we left behind us was two bags of nuts and open cheese package to the table as there was no trash pin even in the room. So this lazy woman opinion is that after all that dirt in the rooms and area, the quest are responsible to clean the rooms. Well, I can assure that was the first thing I did a lot when we arrived. I cleaned the filthy terrace tables, put our own candles, clean the bath room tables, kitchen tables etc. so sorry for the two packages of the nuts in the table but I can assure you that you will never ever see us again. World is full of amazing hotels! If you can go anywhere else, just do it!
Thank you again for this beautiful stay and we highly recommend this place if you are looking for an Oasis in Spain.
The pool, the roof terrace, the great tips by Laurence made our stay outstanding. There is a great place to ride horses very near, run by Monica a friend of Laurence. From La Careza you can also easily make some hikes.
As we are animal lovers we very much enjoyed the presence of Lulu the dog and both cats.
Usually we don’t travel to the same place twice, but La Careza and Laurence definitely make us think twice about that policy 😉
So - book a flight, rent a car (you’ll need one), pick up a nice bottle of one and some tapas and relax with your love at la Careza de mijas.
Overall it was exactly what we were looking for: whilst it gloriously feels like you are a million miles away from the 'madding crowd', it is in reality actually just a short drive - should you need or care to join the frenzy on the coastline (or at least just get some supplies in from a well stocked supermarket).
The location in the hills just behind the coast is completely and utterly stunning and peaceful; the interiors of the fincas surprisingly spacious and light; the deco so stunning, perfectly considered and original (the hostess, Laurence, has a truly magic and authentic touch!); the native plants in the garden (thanks to the other half of the hosting couple, Marc) an absolute joy; to top it all off the hosts are extremely helpful, informative and determined to make your stay exactly as you want it to be.
If you are looking for peace and tranquility at a short distance's (drive) from convenience, alongside POI's, beaches, mountains, lakes, typical Andalusian villages....you name it, it's all not far away. I can't recommend these studios highly enough if this is 'your bag'.
Practical Tips (just because it's always nice to feel useful):
1.Don't miss a visit (or two, or three) to the nearby (within walking distance) restaurant Sociedad Gastronómica La Porra (open only from Thurs to Sun).
For us La Porra truly exemplified generosity on every possible level and was a very, very special cherry on the top of our visit to La Careza.
2.Getting to la Careza for the first time: use Google Maps or any other app that actually recognises the address. The Satnav thing in our rental car was useless and didn't recogise the address.
But maybe that adds to to the sense that you're completely off the map, although you are actually not.....That's La Careza in a nutshell for me.
