My relatively simple but comfortable oooom overlooked the river, the vineyard covered mountains, the railroad and the Main Street. It is an easy walk across the street from the station. The trains and street traffic did not bother me.One of the owners speaks fluent English and gave very helpful advice concerning walks in the country. Breakfasts were simple but adequate.... More

Went to Pinhao by train from Porto. Hotel is across the street from train station. Peter was at front desk at this family run hotel. He was very helpful and gave us directions to the places to visit around town. Then showed us around hotel and let us choose which room we wanted. Rooms are very nice and clean. Ours... More

Charming little house with crooks and crannies, steep stairs and tiny terraces. Clean rooms and comfy beds. The breakfast is a joy (I'm not telling why, you find out) The smallest big hotel in town, with the best location. One of the places I long for on my way towards Douro. Every time.

We stayed there for 2 nights in July16. We reserved the room few months before, the first surprise was that we didn't have to pay anything in advance. Tho hotel is near the train/bus station, on the main road going through town. Though we got the room on the "noisy" street, overall it was quiet after spending 5 nights on... More

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May 2016. On arrival we were given a choice of rooms, one at the back (no view but quiet), and another at the front (great view, overlooking station and river, but noisy). We opted for the one at the front as it was a slightly better room with a small balcony,... More

Took the train up this beautiful and interesting valley. Booked into the Hotel Douro which is across the road from the cool little tiled station. Raining when we arrived and stepped off the train to be greeted with one of the hotels family complete with umbrellas. Clean simple room with balcony and view. The lovely lady that runs the hotel... I would highly recommend this hotel. Clean, attractive building and rooms. Friendly owners, a true family run hotel. We got great recommendations on hikes, wine tasting, and other activities. The double room was small, as was the bed. But everything was spotless, towels, bedding very comfortable. Breakfast was 5 euro more for two. Delicious and hearty! Dont expect eggs, but... More

We had a family reunion at the hotel Douro. The owners were the most lovely and warm-hearted people we have met in Portugal during our 10-day trip. They treated us like kings and queens in a most natural way. We do hope they can start up their restaurant again as the breakfast was excellent and the wine expertise Luis most... More

We stayed two nights in 2 single rooms (which were really small doubles) overlooking the Douro valley - great view. Only drawback to this is that the traffic is quite noisy due to road immediately outside the hotel. However, air conditioning was quiet so I slept well in the very comfortable bed! Actually the bed and pillows were better than... More

We agree with the last few reviews. The hotel is lovely with azulejo decorated hallways and stairwells. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a woderful view of the Douro river, as well as the main street, from the small balcony. The picture of the front of the hotel does not do it justice. In fact we recommended to our... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are in the Pinhao...Pinhao is a village from the Alijo County, located on the right side of the Douro River. This little town is also one of the most beautiful places of Portugal. The peaceful village has an area of about 300 acres.Pinhao is 17 kilometres far from the county seat Alijo and 38 kilometres from the capital of the district, Vila Real. The toponymy of Pinhao is justified by the fact that you can find there the junction of the Pinhao River, which is an affluent of the Douro. Pinhao is located on the very heart of the Upper Douro Region. It`s a village where the astonished landscape is dominated by the mountain, shaped in terraces all along the Douro River. The quality and the good reception of our house make the difference. ... more   less
