The entire grounds were spotless! The room was very comfortable, as was the bed , and a beautiful view! The food, the service, and the people of Portugal cannot be matched! It may just the best holiday we’ve had, and we hope you enjoy it her too! So relaxing…. it is with no hesitation that I highly, highly recommend!

We have just returned from a week at this amazing hotel. Upon arrival late on a Monday evening, the chap on reception was so welcoming, even booking us a meal at a lovely restaurant a few minutes walk from the hotel as their buffet had finished by the time we arrived.
This amazing service continued throughout the whole holiday, with nothing too much trouble for the staff, who were so friendly and helpful. Their ability to speak so many languages is incredible!
The location of the hotel is stunning, built into a clifftop with amazing views of the sea and cliffs. The views from the restaurant and bar are out of this world and breakfast (which is delicious with great choices, particularly for veggies!) overlooking the sea was like a dream each morning. We had toasties and drinks at the bar some days and also took part in a fantastic 'Sunset and Cocktails' evening, with 4 euro cocktails and a DJ.
The pool areas at both hotels are fantastic, ours at the Galomar was so peaceful as it is adults only and there was a cool little bar serving drinks all day. We never had any trouble getting sun loungers at any time of day. The spa is an absolute delight - I had a massage and it was wonderful, plus the views in the spa are the best I've ever seen!
The room was a good size and very comfortable, with Aircon, a fridge, a chaise longue and a huge rainshower. The only thing I would change is that we had two singles pushed together for a double whereas we would have preferred an actual double bed. We had booked a sea view room and were given a ground floor garden view room, although you could still see the sea and the pool so had a great view.
There is lots to see and do in the surrounding area of Canico, with some lovely restaurants and a nice walk along the promenade. We caught the bus into Funchal some days, which was only 2 euros 20 each and easy to do. We also booked some trips, which were amazing.
Madeira is a beautiful island and this is a wonderful hotel, with great facilities, lovely staff and a great vibe. I also loved the fact it is an eco hotel and has won awards- it was the first time we had ever been in a solar powered lift before! We had a fabulous time and will definitely be returning. Finally, after a long "confined" period, was able to "breath fresh air and enjoy vacations. The Hotel was renewed not long ago, and still feels like new, all areas are covid prepared with several hand-sanitizers on various locations, proper information and restrictions. Rooms are pleasant and comfortable with a modern touch, the swimming pool area is beautiful and very clean with several sunbeds and lounges to relax with the required distance between them, nice entry to the sea on the lower level of the hotel, The staff goes an "extra-mile" to make you feel comfortable and welcome, very helpful in all situations. The food on the restaurant, was above average, not the typical buffet due to covid -19 restriction's, but a very pleasant menu dinner. In the overall all was amazing and well organized. Thank you all for making us feel "normal / blessed" in such troubled times.

Madeira is breath-taking in its beauty combined with a most comfortable climate. The Galo Resort is large with many resources. We stayed in the Galosol Hotel. The accommodations were new and the room organised very well. Our view from our patio/veranda looking out over the Infinity Pool and the ocean was stunning. The Dining Room buffet was much above average; each evening featured a different menu which contributed to our enjoyment of the meals. The Lounge on the cliff face over the ocean accessed by an elevator was a favourite haunt after a long day of hiking; Happy Hour drinks were very reasonable. Every staff person we encountered was friendly and eager to help. Access to Funchal by the 155 bus was easy and comfortable. We have nothing negative to say; our experience at the Resort was excellent.

My husband and I just spent the Month of January , 2020 at the Galomar. It is a fabulous hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the views onto the cliffs are wonderous. The breakfasts where plentiful with the best breads that I have ever had. I will sorely miss the bread. There were several different and delicious restaurants on the grounds to go to if one did not want to leave the resort. Our room was spacious with a garden view overlooking the pool. But the best thing about the resort beside the location, were the people who work there. This is especially true of Duarte who is the concierge. He was very helpful in booking tours for us and a hotel room in Lisbon and giving us general information about the island. He is a very professional, yet friendly and pleasant person. Thank you Duarte for making our stay so memorable. We will be back.

I'm from Madeira and currently living in lisbon. I've known galomar beach since i was a kid and in september of 2020 i had the opportunity to spent a night (and day) in galomar and it was all perfect: a renovated hotel, very clean, great food and the staff is so nice and helpfull. The pool is fantastic and the beach (lido) is one of the best in Madeira. You can swim on a ocean atantic natural reserve with clear water at a very nice temperature. I will surely come back!

First impressions on arrival was of an unimpressive reception area with less than friendly receptionists/front of house staff. I had booked an upgraded sea view room. It was wife’s birthday during our one week stay and I had booked and payed extra for the best available sea view room at a higher level. We were initially given a very small side room. On the lowest level. When I explained that the room wasn’t what I had booked I was told the hotel was full and all other rooms are unavailable. We were disappointed, as it was not right. I was then shown 2 other rooms that were also very small without the view I had booked and paid a premium for. The receptionist was difficult to understand and kept saying the hotel was full. Eventually she showed me a larger room with a sea view even though this was a low level room it was comparatively better than the other rooms. Unfortunately this was a poor unfriendly and unwelcoming start. The bed was very large comfortable although thier was only one pillow each. The shower was fine but no bath in the room, which would have been nice. The dining room has great sea views you go down a lift to the dining room areas and to the lower sea level pool areas which are very nice and from where you can swim in the sea. The breakfast was okay but not impressive in any way other that the views, most of the restaurant staff were indifferent with only a couple of friendly waiting staff.. We were quite lucky with the weather which was mainly sunny for February and the poolside areas and seawater pools were nice relaxed with plenty of loungers although there’s no poolside service. The hotel seemed relatively quiet and we saw a lot of changing faces, maybe people on day or short visits.
The spa was excellent and a completely different class to the rest of the hotel. The spa staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. My wife and I had booked massages and saunas on our last two days which was the absolute highlight of of our stay. The massage was very good and the sauna and relaxation areas were great with fantastic views.
We did get a bus into Funchal one day which was easy although it would have been nice if the reception staff had been more friendly and helpful.
Our biggest disappointment was the evening meal that I’d booked on my wife’s birthday. The waitress was pushy to try and get us to have their day catch fish. She told us that all the fish was fresh but disappointedly the fish we ordered tasted was pretty appalling. The last thing I wanted to do was complain but it was inedible and what was most annoying was the waitresses insistence that it was fresh. The restaurant manager was very apologetic and said he would take care of the bills and sent a bottle of Prosecco to our room which we didn’t drink as our special birthday dining evening was spoiled and couldn’t be undone. Overall I would have loved to have given 4 or 5 star review had our experience been different.
Overall one of the hotel liaison staff, I think her name was Nicole was very nice, friendly and helpful, unfortunately this was not the case with the two reception staff and one or two of the restaurant staff.

Looking for recently built, well run and maintained, outside Funchal hotel with nice helpful staff with good choices of activities around you? Here you have it.
We were very facinated by this fairly small and peaceful hotel aimed to attract adult visitors. Nice clean rooms and facilities with good selection of wellness services right in the spot. The views over the Atlantic was always present whether you sit in the breakfast room, restaurant, pool, Lido, bar or sauna. Very nice.
The staff was excellent, everything worked and can be arranged. Very hazle free vacation, I must say. Special positive mention goes to excellent and comprehensive breakfast and excellent fresh sea-food choices later on during the day. As a Finn and sauna enthusiast, I must give a bit negative feedback from Finnish sauna - too hot and dry, and the stove in the corner was just a decoration with no possibility to throw 'löyly'. Otherwise the sauna department was very relaxing and well done.
High recommendations for those who like to chill-out for a while!

We spent a week here in late September. The hotel is a short drive from the airport, approximately half way from Funchal. Unlike most hotels, reception operates a restricted service (0800-1230/1530-1900) although there is a 24hr desk phone. Our spacious sea view room (2401) had a fridge, safe, efficient air conditioning, sufficient storage space, multiple USB charging points and a sunny aspect balcony. There’s a large walk in shower but no bath. We were on B&B (with included two evening meals in the nearby sister hotel inclusive of wine/beer/soft drinks in our package plus spa treatments). There are numerous cafes and restaurants nearby with varied menus and reasonable prices. A couple of supermarkets are up the hill (the SPAR is the better in my opinion, if only for the helpful manager). I’d recommend taking snorkel/goggles as there’s a wide variety of fish to view from off the jetty (a dive school also operates from the hotel). Plenty of sun beds dotted around (but they could do with a scrub). Breakfast is repetitive but there’s something to suit all tastes - if I had one recommendation it would be to have a toaster in the breakfast area. The local bus service (155) into Funchal costs 2.20 euros each way and takes around 40mins (the less frequent “express” service is quicker). We would normally hire a car to get around but prices were exorbitant and so spent a lot of our time relaxing with our feet up.

We have just returned from a 1 weeks stay on a Full Board+ basis, we arrived on an early flight from the UK one of our 2 rooms was ready AMAZING, the rules were explained to us regarding eating etc, Fullboard + is 3 meals per day, with 1 bottle of water per person and either a soft drink, glass of Wine or a beer. Some staff seemed confused at times about the FB+ option sometimes asking both room numbers sometimes only wanting one, sometimes asking us to sign sometimes not. We chose the Sentido Galomar as it was shown as Adult friendly. And as we prefer a child free vacation this was the perfect option, however, we had to take lunch at the Setido galasol and evening meals, the sentido Galasol is the Family hotel, fortunately there were no or very few children at the hotel during our stay, so it wasn't an issue. However we discovered that the Sentido Galomar restaurant served the same lunch menu but we would have to pay if we wanted to eat there how odd. Around the pool in the Galomar there was no easy place to get a drink, you had to go out of the hotel across a path down in the lift to -3 get a drink being it back up to the pool area. We found it wasn't easy in the Galasol to get pre-dinner drinks so we ended up just going to our table and having our free FB+ Drink. Lunch was an extended affair we used to arrive at 1pm for our main course and dessert, some days we left with no dessert as it took so long to get mains, so much so we used to order our desserts with our mains... In a hope we would be out before 3pm. Saying that the food was good. The breakfast buffet was good too, the evening meals were also buffet and food and service were good, as a fussy eater I found something to eat every night... the hotel is beautiful and well kept.
Service in the Galomar of an evening was also very prompt. All through our stay if we ordered any drinks we paid at the end of the night, we also had a table booked in the speciality where the food was subsidised ever so slightly, it was ok and we had a nice evening and for 4 of is was about €105 that we paid for when we left the restaurant. Upon checkout we were charged the exit fee or per night charge plus there was a €7 charge for 1 cheesecake from the speciality restaurant (it was 100%) not our cheesecake as we wasn't in that restaurant that day only for breakfast, luckily there wasn't to much aggro about not paying for it, however if it had been a full meal it may have got a bit tricky as you cannot prove you didn't have it. If it has been charged the room. Would we return, unfortunately not but it is a lively well kept hotel.

Hi, we’ve just arrived at the hotel and there’s a fridge in our room as well as a kettle. A couple of supermarkets are up the road (hill!) for milk etc. The room fridge has stuff in it for purchase but we just took it all out!

Yes if you walk down eastwards R Don Francisco Santana there are about 3 restaurants that we went to, all different in their own way but food very acceptable.

Hi The sister hotel is within staggering distance although it is uphill to get to it, about 150m. Breakfast was good, but we tended to go out to the local restaurants in the evening and only ate on the first night at the hotel, can't remember how good it was, certainly not poor.
"Parking isn't free but very cheap. A few euro's per day and tou always have a spot. The streets are small and steep so choose a good ensurance and highly praised car rental "
There are more places to choose from in the Canico area.
