We stayed over Christmas and new year and really enjoyed the celebrations the hotel put on. The trip to see the fireworks was magical and they thought of everything! All the staff are polite and helpful. The view from our room and across the hotel was perfect. Sea view after sea view! The rooms were spotless and spacious. The food was good quality but perhaps not the best variety for children, but then, I don’t think the hotel is particularly aimed at small children anyway. My only real disappointment, and it really was a disappointment, was the rule that you couldn’t enjoy a game whilst having a drink in the bar. We were having a couple of early evening drinks and playing a small game with our children (8&9 years old)when we were told no games at the bar, there is space in reception for that. Of which there are no drinks facilities. I asked if we could play a card game and was told no. I mean, imagine paying over £3,500 for a week holiday with my family and we were not allowed to play dobble and have a drink at the same time! Absolutely ridiculous. I would recommend to couples or families with teen children more than a family like ours.

There are some eccentricities which grate a little here, like trying to place festival-style wristbands upon guests, charging for car parking, and the incredibly load gym disco for a deafening hour every evening. But there are plenty of compensations, especially the sea pool and the now quite adequate kitchens that mean eating in is an enjoyable option. The car hire firm just over the road (Insularcar) is very good, and it's possible to book in advance and just have a set of wheels for a few days - a great way to see more of the island and be free from the tyranny of coach tours. Peter's Bar and Habeas Coppus are just up the road for alternative evening refreshments, too.

My husband and I looked forward to our holiday in the island we love. We chose Royal Orchid because it was near to the sea, with wonderful views. We arrived at the Hotel and it was everything we hoped for. Our room with a separate bedroom and bathroom, with a large terrace area excellent. Staff at Royal Orchid could not have been more friendly and helpful,Especially the young lady at reception who help sort out things when are taxi was late. Cleaners so diligent, room was kept spotless every day. BUT Unfortunately we had to take our meals in the sister hotel adjoining our Hotel The Rokamar Hotel. It had the weirdest food ever. My bud and who can eat anything Was a bit taken a back. I lived on cheese and biscuits . Would not recommend unless you like rustic type cuisine. Strangest breakfast I have ever seen. Thank goodness for bread rolls and toast. We booked the Royal Orchid Hotel , moor expensive than the Rokamar Hotel, where the dinning room we had to use. Would recommend you check before you book..

Our room was spacious, comfortable and modern. The views were spectacular with the sun rising directly over our room every morning; super black-out curtains, though! We had a bed and breakfast booking and we never utilised the dinner facilities but breakfast was perfectly serviceable, though the serving dishes weren't keeping the food quite as hot as I'd have preferred.
It is worth noting that this was once two hotels; the Rocomar and the Royal Orchid and we had rooms in the Royal Orchid section which, on the outside at least, seemed more modern than the Rocomar.
This hotel was great value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. We walked along the coast to other, probably more expensive hotels in Canico and can say that the Rocomar seemed more open and spacious and had generally better views of the ocean and coast as well as better access to the sea. Canico itself was quiet, pretty and was well served by numerous cafes and restaurants. still only a 20 minute bus ride from Funchal, though and the Rocomar provided a slick shuttle service there and back.

We really enjoyed our week at Royal Orchid. We had a self catering studio with spectacular sea views. It was immaculately presented, and the daily maid service ensured it remained clean and tidy. Staff were very helpful to arrange tours, taxis and guidance about the public transport into Funchal. We enjoyed the on resort "steak house" restaurant, as well as have good local mini markets for provisions within a few minutes walk. The pools were lovely.

The hotel RocaMar is a sister of hotels on the same waterfront. This hotel is still being renovated but at very high specs! They will surely be a four to five star upon completion! The breakfast was awesome and they use high quality food. Also visit the omelet station as the lady is lovely! My room was very new. It still had dust along the floor boards and windows that need attention. The beds are ok, but the pillows are very soft. The kitchen had everything you would need to prepare a meal. The ac wasn't working most nights, but I did alert the manager. This is a lovely property and I will definitely return! Love it!

This was our first time in Madiera, and we went there to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. The Royal Orchid is an excellent hotel, with their staff very helpful, and attentive. Our room was very large, it had a sea view. Free internet, large tv, fridge, microwave and lots of kitchen utensils. Breakfast was included, and there was excellent variety available. Ensure you enjoy cocktails overlooking a beautiful sea view. The hotel treated us to a bottle of cava in an ice bucket on the day of our anniversary. Thoroughly recommend this awesome hotel.
