All of Ischia is beautiful, and it is large in the sense there are a number of villages and beaches, so choosing a hotel involved weighing a lot of options. Fortunately, we have a friend who grew up in Sorrento who knows the island well. He suggested S. Angelo for its remoteness – away from the ferry ports, large resorts, and big spa hotels – and because it is a more relaxed place to spend our first visit. He was right about the location. This hotel is on a hill with views of Capri, Sorrento, and the hill side. We had a sea view room with a nice terrace, a comfortable bed, and an adequate bath. Adequate in that everything worked, but it was a bit tired and not as spacious as some places we stayed. The grounds are very nicely landscaped and maintained. The pool area is also very nice. We spent an afternoon in the thermal waters enjoying the jets in different areas. For the most part, we give staff very high marks. The Gentleman, maybe a General, who manages breakfast has a huge personality and great attention to detail. Everything ran smoothly the two mornings we were there. Housekeeping did a nice job and always greeted us in the halls. We had drinks on the terrace two afternoons and service was excellent and the prices reasonable. The same people also brought us drinks at the pool. The hotel does not have an elevator, so we appreciated the bellmen who carried our bags to our room. The only people we encountered who were not friendly and courteous were the two gentlemen at reception. They acted like it was an inconvenience to make a restaurant reservation or call for a golf cart; and check out the last morning was a real challenge even though our stay was prepaid. We had a car service from the ferry and our driver dropped us at the golf cart location. They were efficient, but we felt a bit expensive for such a short ride, but with baggage, you really have no choice. Although going quickly down the winding hill and meeting other carts made the ride kind of a thrill. We talked with other guests at the pool and at breakfast. It seems like there are a lot of French and German couples who come to this hotel annually and love it.

Stayed 4 nights at San Michele. Beautiful, very clean hotel in quiet San’t Angelo/Ischia. Nice modern room, with huge terrace and amazing view on Maronti Bay. Even the shower came with a view. Breakfast was well organized. Fill in paper night before, choose room or hotel breakfast terrace. I chose room and had amazing breakfasts on my terrace, with a good capuccino, fresh fruit, in my pyjama’s listening to the birds, the sea. I felt really spoiled after 1,5 terrible, crazy, depressing year working as a nurse. There’s a nice pool with comfortable lounges. Mini bar prices good value. Porter service ( extra to pay) from taxi stand to hotel. Easy walk down to the harbour, walk up - do it slowly. Some good restaurants and bars at the harbour, minimarket in center. And Ischia is beautiful - GO!

We have just spent a week at the hotel the two of us with our daughter and we enjoyed so much our stay. The hotel is located in a unique position with great views on the bay. The service is really on spot and very attentive. The room clean and modern with a great bathroom. The breakfasts on the terrace are memorable.... we miss them already! The hotel staff then really makes the difference and this is why we think the San Michele is special. All staff has demonstrated an attention and a kindness , all week long , that we have found remarkable. We felt always like being at home. We want also to mention that we have asked during our stay hints and recommendations to Mr. Celestino , the Hotel Director , on what to do and where to go , and we have found all of the suggestions not only extremely good but also very reliable. Please then do not hesitate to ask ! In conclusion a wonderful stay.

This place has a nice but inconvenient location. Staff are not very warm or friendly. Breakfast selection was quite limited and boring. There is a real thermal pool which is nice. Our roon was very small with an antiquated bathroom and not enough power points. Felt that the hotel's main concern was chiselling € from customers. A supposedly 4* hotel which charges rental for pool towels and silly prices for golf cart shuttle up the hillside. Very overpriced drinks and food. It seemed like the customer demographic favoured octagenarian german widows - good or bad is a personal call...

We loved staying at San Michele and would highly recommend both this hotel and the area to anyone planning a visit to Ischia. We would love to return both to Ischia and the hotel. Staff at the hotel were always friendly and helpful, particularly those on the front desk. The rooms have a fantastic view of the bay and are quite spacious. The bathrooms could do with some slight updating (particularly the hair dryer) but in general are comfortable and have the needed amenities. We did not eat dinner in the hotel but lunch was quite nice and for evening drinks it is a beautiful spot. As mentioned by some others, at breakfast there isn’t a huge selection but you could get most ‘normal’ breakfast offerings, our only comment would be the need for cold milk (for cereals) to be part of the buffet rather than needing to be requested. The pool area is very relaxing and personally I loved the warmer temperature of the pool and it’s thermal waters. However I know my husband who prefers to swim lengths was not as keen. Though we did not use the spa facilities I did also have a very good massage which was a reasonable price. The location of the hotel is brilliant as there are so many restaurants etc within walking distance in lovely Sant’Angello and you can easily access the beach. The bus station also isn’t too far for exploring further afield on the island. Though it may not be as up to date or flashy as some other hotels it has everything you need and they offer a really good service within a beautiful location. Overall a great stay and highly recommended.
