Words can’t describe how perfect our stay at Hotel Grotta was. Nicoleta at check in was wonderful, our room facing the water very comfortable & the buffet breakfast amazing! Perfect location too. Highly recommend Hotel Grotta.
It's easy to see why Hotel Grotta is tops on Naxos. Although they will gladly pick you up from the port, we chose to take the picturesque walk (10 minutes) up the coastline beneath the Temple of Apollo from the ferry to the hotel. We were greeted with a super-friendly, highly personable welcome at this family-run property that we will forever appreciate and never forget. After a detailed orientation to everything Naxos, we were treated to delicious homemade wine and pie on the outdoor deck before being shown to our room. We had a fantastic sea view room with a spacious outdoor patio that overlooked the Portara and Temple of Apollo. At the time year we were there (early September), the sun sets directly behind the temple and great door. The sunset over the Portara was as unique as it was spectacular. There are only a handful of sea view rooms, so try to book well ahead if that is what you are after. Even without a sea view room, it is just a short step outside to the cliff-side view of the same sunset. Oh, and the room came with a nice bottle of the same homemade wine that was featured at check-in along with a different tasty homemade treat left in the room each afternoon. The included breakfast - unbelievably good. There must have been at least 30 different Greek dishes offered each morning - all freshly homemade. Whenever we travel, we are always looking to experience traditional cooking and flavors. As such, being able to sample from a spread like the one offered at Hotel Grotta was a true delight. We've had many great breakfasts elsewhere, but this was off-the-charts, unforgettably good. The beautiful breakfast room itself (which doubles as the dinner room) was another highlight of the property featuring a full bar, oversized windows (looking out over the rugged coastline, Portara and Naxos Town) and a fireplace. The property as a whole, featured modern Greek architecture and wonderful art installations throughout. Inspired by the breakfast and atmosphere of the place, we had a late dinner here on our last night and were glad we did. Every bit as good as breakfast. Also included was access to a remarkable spa. Considering the relatively affordable room rates offered, access to a spa area that had a dry sauna, steam room, hot tub and unique top-down rainfall plunge pool was another cherry on top. Due to the pandemic, only one reservation group could access the spa in 30 minute intervals through simple reservations made at check-in. Having the whole facility to ourselves for 30 minutes each night was perfect and perfectly relaxing. It was easy enough to schedule times either just before or after sunset. We think of Hotel Grotta as not just a jewel of a hotel on Naxos, but throughout all of the Cyclades. If we ever have the opportunity to visit Greece again, availability at Hotel Grotta will absolutely be the first thing we look up!…
This wonderful, family run hotel has been my best Naxos memory since 2017. Such a warm greeting & thoughtful/caring attention each trip. Like meeting old friends & new family, even from my first visit. Nice, spotlessly clean rooms. Pretty garden view & a shower I’d like to take home! Complimentary, prompt & friendly airport/port transport both directions. The location is on a breathtaking hilltop with view of the Unfinished Temple of Apollo, aegean sea & scenic path leading to the town. Spectacular roof view & stunning postcard-window view from the dining/breakfast room. Beautiful, peaceful & quiet. Gluten/dairy issues? I have a severe gluten allergy +dairy, which they understood perfectly from their own family. Their breakfasts & dinners were wonderful, with complete trust re. my allergies. And…their family-made white wine is sooo good! I love Grotta Hotel! & look forward to my next visit. I would whole heartedly recommend to everyone.…
This hotel is beautiful and has great views of the ocean. It's a 15-minute walk down a hill to the center of town or you can walk on the street which takes longer. The owners and staff are AMAZING. The customer service is the best we have ever had and the free breakfast every morning was wonderful. They picked us up from the port which was so nice. We visited almost all of the villages on the island and they are beautiful. We loved Naxos and we will definitely stay here again when we go back. We had an awesome vacation.
The way they welcome you and the warmth that they showed at this hotel was unique. It’s a family run hotel overlooking the sea and the temple of Apollo in Naxos. Despoina and Maria at the front desk/lobby were simply amazing - happy, cheerful, thoughtful and eager to help with any needs. The morning breakfast was a spread meant for kings (and Queens)! This was a unique breakfast with lots of home made dishes and also continental selections. Amazing Marin manages the counter in the morning there to make sure everyone is taken care of. Nicolette (whose family owns this hotel) was amazing with her high energy, knowledge and ability to direct us to great places to explore on the island. The hotel is very tastefully decorated, all public areas in the hotel, you see staff wearing masks and they expect guests to wear masks as well. Sanitizing stations also exist. The hotel is simply clean, spic and span. In our 3 days here we could not find one instance of any mess. The housekeeping staff are just amazing and make sure your rooms are clean and beds made every day. We did not use the indoor pool/spa/sauna. We spent all the time outdoors. It’s amazing that this hotel also offers complimentary pickup and drop off from the port and/or airport for their guests. Every evening when we came back to our room, there was always a surprise sweet treat waiting for us. We thought we were special, but found out later that they treat all their guests the same way :) Having visited many hotels on our travels over the years, we can confidently say this was surprisingly one of the best places we stayed and enjoyed our stay thoroughly. I know there are other hotels in Naxos, but next time in Naxos, we certainly will be back at hotel Grotta.…
