We returned to Naxos after a delay of 5 years. Having previously stayed in a hotel we decided that self catering was a better option. After a lot of research we decided on Nikos Verikokos Studios. A really good choice. Manos, son of Nikos, who runs the apartments is charming and very helpful. The studio had a king sized bed with a good matress, full sized oven and fridge, every cooking utensil you could dream of, air conditioning and wifi. The bathroom was clean with lots of hot water under pressure, but beware, until the sun has been on the solar panels for a while it can be cool. There was a dining table and chairs in the studio and another outside on a little patio. The room was serviced daily with clean linen. Great location, just minutes from the labyrinth that is the old town, the castle, the water front with its massive choice of eating places, and lots of shops and mini marts to buy groceries and supplies. Highly reccommended.

We got the tip from friends to book this house. We were simply not disappointed.
When we arrived on the ferry from Syros, Nikos picked us up at the harbor in his red VW Polo and took us to the accommodation. There we moved into room S1 on the first floor. A very large and, above all, beautiful apartment with a kitchenette and 4 beds. The bathroom is modern and equipped with a hairdryer, shampoo and body lotion.
We also had a washing machine including taps, which we used straight away after 10 days of island hopping. The ironing station is also in the room.
And then there is a small balcony and a huge terrace with 2 sun loungers, a table and 5 armchairs as well as a Jacuzzi - whirlpool.
Sunset over the neighboring island of Paros included!
The location is also amazing. Not 50 meters and you are on the harbor promenade. Or from the front door you are in the alleys of the old town.
Nikos is always ready for a good tip - he can always be found somewhere at the house and is also very helpful.
Thank you for the lovely stay in your wonderful house and thank you for your help charging our e-bikes.
We will definitely book with you again on our next Naxos holiday.

This hotel is well situated in the town of Chora.

The rooms are well appointed and comfortable.

The hotel is owner managed and exhibits all the care one would expect associated with that. No request is too much trouble.

The rooftop deck offers beautiful sunset views.

Highly recommended.

We were fortunate and had the room at the top which has a huge private balcony with wonderful views over the sea. The room was spotlessly clean and we were given fresh linen each day. The location in the town is brilliant. We had a small kitchen which was well equipped but you need to provide all your own food. Take your showers at night when there is plenty of hot water! Definitely to be highly recommended.

Yet another great stay here in June 2022.
Manos continues to provide excellent accommodation and services. As usual he picked us up from the port and ran us to the airport at the end of our stay.
The views from the roof are amazing.
This is the only place we would ever stay in Naxos and look forward to our next visit.

We stayed at Nikos Verikokos Studios for two weeks in May 2012. It was ideal for our purposes and for a modest budget. We highly recommend it, provided that it suits your preferences.

The Studios consist of about a dozen apartments on several floors, some facing west and some facing north. The higher apartments have better views, and the northern apartments are less exposed to the heat and glare of the afternoon sun. All the apartments that we saw have small balconies. A new penthouse apartment, with a spectacular view, was completed while we were there.

We were offered a choice of several apartments. They are scrupulously clean, well lighted, and airy, with plenty of elbow room. Some have a single bedroom, some have two. The furnishings are plain and adequate. The single beds are very firm, which is wonderful for us, but may be too firm for some. Each apartment has air conditioning, a strong WiFi signal, and a television set, with channels in various languages.

The kitchen facilities consist of a marble sink (Naxos is famous for its marble), a small refrigerator, an electric cooktop, and a small dining table. Basic tableware is provided.

The bathrooms are modern and roomy enough. Except, the shower consists of a small square base and no enclosure. You need to spray the telephone shower toward the wall, and water still gets on the floor. This arrangement is probably standard issue on Naxos. Water is solar heated everywhere, so you won’t be taking long showers anyway.

This is essentially an apartment, not a hotel. The exception is that the rooms are made up every day, like a hotel. Otherwise, don’t look for hotel amenities. There is no exercise room, no spa, no concierge, no desk staff.

Judging from a Web site of Naxos lodging facilities, the interior appointments are apparently similar to those of many other Naxos lodgings.

As with most lodgings in this class, no meals are served. Greeks apparently do not eat breakfast beyond “a cigarette and a cup of coffee.” If you feel the need for breakfast out, many of the nearby restaurants offer various levels of American style breakfast.

The outstanding advantage of Nikos Verikokos Studios is its location, in a quiet residential area that is connected to a tangle of pathways of the kind that make the Greek islands so wonderful. The upper apartments have a nice view of the harbor. The shortest path to the harbor is only 100 meters downhill. Or, you can follow one of several alleys that angle down toward the port area, with many tavernas and art shops along the way.

The Studios are only about 600 meters from the ferry dock, with only a short uphill walk from the harbor. (Almost everywhere in the Greek islands is uphill from the water’s edge, sometimes extremely so.) The nearby harbor is ringed with restaurants, and has several car rental agencies, banks, and shops. A major commercial street is nearby, offering two grocery stores within 200 meters. Within 500 meters are many more grocery stores, car rentals, and specialty shops.

A bakery around the corner offers excellent bread for a pittance, with which you can concoct a good breakfast and make sandwiches for day trips. The Venetian kastro, the main feature of historical interest in Naxos Town, is only a short walk uphill. (In Greek, Naxos Town is called Chora, a generic term that is used for the main town on all the Greek islands).

It is easy to navigate the alleys because they either parallel the harbor front or drop down to it. If you get lost, simply go downhill to the harbor and start over.

The nearby restaurants are uniformly good. A typical meal costs somewhat less than a comparable meal in the Unites States (except breakfast, which is relatively more expensive).

The Studios are operated by Manos Pano and his wife Georgia, who live in the building. Both have jobs elsewhere, undoubtedly like most other proprietors. If you need help, you can call Manos on his cell phone. Often, you can catch him or Georgia in the office.

Manos and Georgia know enough English to communicate easily. They are friendly and very accommodating. For example, Manos made a relentless and successful effort to find electrical adapters for us, and he rustled up a fancy frying pan and some additional cutlery for us.

We were picked up at the ferry dock by Nikos Pano, the father of Manos. He is an older Greek with little grasp of English, but was extravagantly friendly and accommodating. In the short drive from the dock to the Studios, he engaged in several shouting matches with other Greek drivers, apparently standard procedure, and exchanged greetings with everyone he saw. Manos took us to the ferry dock for our departure in a more sedate manner.

Nikos Verikokos Studios was ideal for our purposes, which were relaxing, seeing the island, getting a feel for the local culture, and being within easy walking distance of amenities. We did NOT come for the beaches or for swimming. (The water is not very warm around the Greek islands, and certainly not in May.)

If you want to walk to a nearby beach in your swim suit, this is not the place. There are many beach lodgings that are specifically intended for bathers. The best are clustered along the beaches on the southwest side of the island. At the more developed beach areas, you will find restaurants and grocery stores, but not the depth of infrastructure that is available in Chora.

Most other lodgings in Chora are located farther south in a dense collection of hotels. These apparently are oriented toward the beach area there, although only the front rank of these hotels are actually within bathing suit distance of the beach.

The location of Nikos Verikokos Studios is ideal for walking around Naxos Town and its environs. If you are spending only a couple of days on Naxos, you probably won’t want to wander any farther afield.

However, if you are staying longer, plan to a rent vehicle to explore the island. Rental of cars and mopeds is inexpensive. We rented a car for 25 euros per day, and a moped for 10 euros per day. The vehicles are provided with nearly empty tanks, and you return them empty, which takes some planning. Fuel is very expensive, costing almost as much as the rental.

Contrary to the statements of the guide books, we found that bus service to the villages and beaches outside Chora was sporadic, at least in May.

On the island roads outside Chora, we experienced very little traffic. (The peak season had not commenced.) The drive is well worth the time. The island is geologically spectacular, with a tall, spiky mountain range that runs along the east size, traversed by roads with many switchbacks. Marble is visible everywhere in the rock formations, and there are some enormous quarries. There are many small villages along the roads. The perimeter has a variety of beaches, of variable quality, including white sand, brown sand, stones, and rock ledges. The water is crystal clear and beautifully blue.

The island is covered with ruins, apparently most of which date to the Venetian occupation. Only the larger or better preserved are marked. I recommend a hike to the top of Pano Kastro, which probably has the most remaining structure. It will take a couple of hours. There is no clearly marked path, but you can navigate along the old walls and find a path by sight. Wear long pants to protect your legs from the brush.

You can fly to Naxos, but don’t. Instead, fly to Athens, where you buy tickets for the Blue Star Ferry, which is huge and luxurious. The ferry departs from the port of Piraeus, which is connected to Athens by a modern subway system. The subway ride takes less than 30 minutes. The ferry ride to Naxos takes a little more than five hours, and it is a wonderful way to start your vacation. If you have any heavy luggage, stow it in the racks on the lowest deck, where the vehicles park. Then, take the escalator to the passenger levels.

Simple but modern and so functional, clean and so much quiet thus in the centre of the town, reasonable prices, excellent view, care for the details, respect for the client! The owner is really fair, kind and friendly. The cleaning lady discret and highly effective. And the hidden treasure of the "enterprise" is obviously the owner's grandfather, a real and genuine Greek Man!
