Detailed Reviews

We have just returned from a week in this fantastic hotel. In fact, one of the best hotels that we have stayed in. The food was excellent, the rooms were spacious, clean and warm, and the staff were all friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. We'd like to say a big thank you to both the staff and management for a lovely stay.
Our holiday was booked through Crystal Ski and although this is nothing to do with the Hotel Post, we have no other way of sharing our experience as there are no opportunities to review the Ski Holiday itself. We are however going to write separately to Crystal Ski, but feel compelled to let other people know what they will be faced with if they choose this location for their ski holiday.

As we were not accompanied by a Crystal Ski Rep on the bus to Badgastein, we were simply dropped off at the Railway Station. Unfortunately the driver did not know where the hotel was located and so we got lost and had to ask local people for directions.

The hotel is located down a steep slope/steps between a row of shops and a petrol station thus making it really difficult carrying skis up and down from the bus stop/ski lift, and similarly when you have all your luggage on arrival/departure.

Please note that there is no Crystal Ski representation either in resort or at the hotel, and so you have only Austrian mobile numbers to call/text if you have any questions. Note also that the mobile numbers are unavailable on a web-based app such as Telegram, Whatsapp, facebook messenger etc., so you'll need to have an international calling plan to be able to call them!

Prior to our departure we had a "generic" message advising that we would be picked up from outside our hotel which is not possible due to access, we had to call the company for further clarification to be told that we had to make our way back to the Railway Station with all of our bags and ski gear. This was made a little easier by using the lift (whilst not in ski gear) in the sister hotel opposite (Salzburger Hof).

However, even though it currently states on the Crystal Ski website that you can use the Salzburger Hof Hotel lift to get up the hill to the ski lift (presumably in ski boots with one's skis), this is UNTRUE. The Hotel Post/Salzburger Hof do not allow skiers to use the lift whilst wearing ski boots/with skis, as one has to trek through the hotel corridors/reception to exit out the other side!

One option is to store Ski equipment at the lift station at a cost of 25 Euros per person, per week, but this then means you have to collect your equipment then come back down to the road if you wish to use the bus to access one of the other three ski areas! This simply adds to the logistics when traveling to the other resorts by bus.

Hotel is linked with the Salzburger Hof which is literally a few steps away which has all the luxury you would expect from an established classic Hotel.
With this in mind the combination of the two gives you all you will need for a perfect stay.
The post is very comfortable with a modern restaurant with views across Bad Gastein and the mountains.

The breakfast was buffet style that was filled with everything you would need.
The evening meal meal was 5 course and had 2 choices with a vegetarian option, the presentation of the food was top quality and served with a smile.
The staff were friendly and always made us feel welcome in both Hotels.

We were a family of 4 with two grown lads who never got bored.
There are a few bars including the famous Silver Bullet bar which is round the corner.
We spent time in the Ritz bar in The Salburger Hof which was always good with live music that wasn't too loud.
We hired our Ski gear and boards from Hervis just up the road and booked four lockers at the main lift for the week so it was easier at the end of the day.
The Skiing was also very good with a vast area if you use the whole valley.
We also found the mountain restaurant food and beer excellent quality and good value.
Its not a Ski in Ski out resort but we've done those in the past in different countries and found them to be lacking in character were as Bad Gastein will give you a classic alpine holiday to remember.

Small and idyllic hotel perfectly located in the centre of Bad Gastein. Very helpful and friendly staff made our stay a pleasant experience. Full access to the sauna facilities at Hotel Salzburger Hof just across the street was a nice feature we enjoyed after long days of skiing or sightseeing. We enjoyed two days skiing with lots of slopes to choose from. We spent two days at the local Felsentherme spa and it was very relaxing and comfortable. We walked two hours to Alpentherme spa and enjoyed one day there. We also took the train to Salzburg and had a nice day exploring the various sights there. The hotel turned out to be the very best starting point to our various excursions and we enjoyed every minute of it with blue skies and varm sunshine every single day.

Small boutique style hotel. Good breakfast and excellent evening meal. Facilities in sister hotel literally 5 steps across a narrow street including excellent spa facilities. Great base for ski and can avoid climb up hill by using lift in sister hotel. Handy for ski buses and main cabin up to 2300 metres. Next to Silver Bullet bar - great apres ski - but can be noisy in early hours as they close up.

It is a bit difficult too review this place.
They call it hotel, but this is in no way a full service place, more like a pension/garni.
Reception only maned a few hours morning and evening, no bar/lounge or place to relax.
breakfast and dinner are nice, but no place open at other times.
Rooms clean and nice ,but small.
Staff are nice, the few hours they are there, specially the girl serving breakfast and dinner.
Again difficult to give grade, but definitely not a 4 star hotel as it is marketed as, but a nice place.

Good afternoon eivindm2013 First thank you for your time, efforts and thoughts to state your comments and feelings about our house. We do hear your concerns but have to say that we have to point out a few issues, which it seems you have not experienced throughout your stay. For many of our Post guests a lot of them regular guest this is seen as a quiet relaxing place whereas it is nice to have all close by but in the hotel itself a relaxing zone. The Hotel Post is a small hotel with only 26 rooms but is considered to be a part of the Salzburger Hof just across the pedestrian walk, not even 1 minute away. Whereas we have more venues, 4 different restaurants like the Hofkeller (a fondue place), Gatz – Tapas & Steaks, our Jadgstube (typical Austrian food), the Ritz Restaurant, , the famous Ritz bar with daily piano and life music as well as free concerts, several times a week, a big wellness area, with saunas, fitness room, and a variety of spa treatments. Also to mention that the Hotel Post guests are the only one of all our houses which can use the wellness facilities of the Salzburg Hof. The reception in our main house is 24 hours open with a night concierge and a full service, also connected and available 24 hours to the Hotel Post and our other smaller Hotels which do not have a night concierge or 24 hours manned front office desk. The Hotel Post itself we have our restaurant for our hotel guests as well as the Bellini Bar and restaurant which of course is also open for walk ins but is belongs to the Hotel Post We hope you consider our feedback and we hope to see you back in town in our Hotel Post, Hotel Salzburger Hof or the other small hotels around the area which belong to our group. Till then happy hours and hope they bring you back to us. Thank you and a prosperous 2020 Yours sincerely Olaf von den Wettern General Manager Salzburger Hof Bad Gastein

Small nice hotel with friendly staff. Good food and variation. A bit steep walk to ski areas. You may use the elevator and go thru Salzburger Hof hotel. We traveled with children who also were satisfied with the hotel.

Traveled to Bad Gastein for one week high alpine hiking in the Austrian Alps. Stayed in hotel Post during our visit. A very friendly receptionist meet us in the lobby. A spacious room with the most wonderful view was booked to my wife and I. This hotel provide the out most that could be expected, from a brand new fantastic SPA (at the Salzburger Hof) to a five course dinner and a wonderful breakfast in the morning, not to forget the fantastic staff that made sure our stay was to our satisfaction. Location is perfect, with walking distance to most things in this beautiful town.

Small and friendly hotel. 5 min walk to ski lift and bus to other Gastein resorts. Breakfast and dinner (half-pension) were great and the service extremely good and friendly. Rooms are a bit small but cosy. Guests can use the very nice spa at Salzburger hof across the street.

Took three rooms here for a skiing break with the family. Good points are rooms better than expected, chef and food some of the best we have ever had and that includes 5 star hotels. What few staff there were were friendly and helpful. Bad points, the Hotel has no facilities at all, everything is across the road in the sister Hotel salsberghof, a very confusing rabbit warren of a Hotel, the post Hotel has no lounge area, no permanent reception staff, not even a toilet in the reception area. It really is an annex to the main hotel. The town of Bad Gastein has NO centre or Main Street so to speak, there are very few places to sit outside and watch life go by, very few shops as well. This means, for us, everything relaxing reverted back to the Hotel, which had nothing of its own. Overall nice boutique hotel that does half board. Not far from the Main Street but beware the slope up there is literally 60 degrees. We had an ok time but won’t go back.
