#13 of 44 B&Bs / Inns in Bad Gastein
The „Schiefe Alm“ which translates roughly as the inclined alpine meadow, was built on the “Gut Leopold” estate, which dates back to 1421. With its perfect setting, it is a true gem of the Austrian Alps. Bad Gastein is just one hour’s drive from Salzburg, and the “Schiefe Alm” is right on the ski slope of Stubnerkogel at the same level as the half-way ski lift station, at some 1.266m altitude. From here you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of Bad Gastein.Guests can choose accommodation ranging from smart, 2 person apartments to roomy, luxury 8 person „Erzherzog-Johannn“ suite...

We had a 5 day winter stay here. PROS: - location is right at the ski run, of course there’s a room for ski equipment. - tries to make an authentic feeling - unlimited number of free toboggan rides included, incl. lift rides CONS: - think TWICE how many bags you need, you can’t park before the door. With some luck you can park just at the bottom of the private lift, from that point the bags go up by lift, then it’s still ca. 100m distance and 20m upwards to the alm. Add some snow for fun. - private lift starts only at 10am, make sure you secure breakfast and you can’t leave before 10. - no dishwasher and oven in the kitchen (see pictures) There is a sauna and restroom in the basement, brave ones can go out into the snow. Free use of the Bellevue-club wellness is included too, it’s a bit complicated to get down to it. Be prepared the club wellness is planned for in-house guests. Alm guests with warm coats and boots are aliens and get just one locker. It’s always the same if you want to do something -- walk down to the lift, take the lift down, walk down to town, same way back. Internet: WLAN is there in the room, you need to get the access down at the club’s reception (walk, lift, walk, etc). We had self-catering less one dinner down in the club. That was 25EUR/person+drinks for a buffet. Breakfast would be 12EUR/person up at the restaurant next door. Dinner can be had there too, but reservation required! Room cleaning is DIY, some tools provided, it's pretty hard with the wood flooring. Eurospar just on the opposite side of the Stubnerkogelbahn lift. Go down to the main street and right.

Very nice apartment with beautiful views. The beds were very comfortable. Good sauna and relaxing area including the price(must reserve). We had the whole sauna area just for our family. Luxury! The check out was early(before 10 am.) and I did not like the idea, that we had to clean up the kitchen segment totally before leaving(but not the rest of the apartment). But anyway, I recommend this hotel to others and I would like to come back.

Truely a scary windy single lane rock road up to the Schiefe Alm but the views were invcredible and so worth the drive up. Everything seemed very new fresh and spotless. We had a great apartment #2 that had bunks for the boys and a little kitchenette but who really needs it when the food next door and the terrase dining were so awesome. We all agreed that this was the best food from our 16 day trip through Austria, Czech and Berlin. Everyone was helpful and we swam at the pool down at the main hotel bellevue Mondi which is where you need to check in and get the key.

Wow, what a place. We were treated to 4 days here as a gift. We stayed in the Erzherzog-Johann Suite which was spacious & perfect for 4 (almost too big) :-) The Suite was clean & cozy...fire wood is provided! Guests can make use of the Sauna & Solarium downstairs however times must be arranged with the Bellevue Alm staff next door. We were fortunate enough to have some snow (in the middle of summer) which made the views extra special. Would love to experience this spot mid winter too as the tabbogan ride downhill looks like great fun. Overall, would definitely stay here again!
