The resort is immaculate! It is like a treasure hunt with lots of nucs and crannies to discover. You can do your standards go to the gym, pool etc. However you can also tackel the over 130 beautifully crafted stairs and make your way down to the bay. In high season you may snorkel, low season enjoy the work of the tides. The resort is framed by local plants and therefore you see all sorts of little locals like geckos, frogs etc..important to note due to the location on the cliff there is less moscitos and I have seen no sandflies up there. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with aircon, fan, safe and also binoculars, umbrellas, beach mats and towels which you are free to use. The hosts are friendly, helpful and have great tips and connections, where and how to do what things, where to go etc. You get the level of input you like to have, if you rather do your own thing they won't mind either. Oh and the view, ake sure to get a cliff view bungalow, it is magnificent! Breakfast is available at the restaurant on site, if thai or continental it'll set you up for the day! To discover the surrounding island.

From the street , you can't see how beautiful the resort are !!! Great garden, stunning seaview and a breathtaking sunset. At the last 6 month we visit this resort 5 times for 5 nights each stay and enjoy the clean and full equipped rooms, friendly staff and the friendly german owner. At the restaurant you have for breakfast or dinner one of the best seaviews and sunset of the island! I absolutely RECOMMEND!!!

Beautiful resort. All staffs are lovely and excellent service. The accommodation was provide everything. Have one swimming pool with kids zone ,the resort close to sea, far from the road and so quiet here in the room. It was great to stay here for Songkran holidays with my big family. We stayed in Garden House (Villa). Inside have 2 bedrooms and living room. Enough space for big a family even with a small kids. Inside the villa have many power plugs for charging mobile phone. The breakfast was very nice. Here is the best sunset in Koh Chang. My family will return again as we can and have free time on the next vacation.

We have been staying here three nights now, and have three nights left. I booked it the night before we arrived, and was not sure what to expect since our two first choises was fully booked. How lucky we were! We are very experienced travellers, and have stayed in numerous hotels in Thailand. After a brief discussion, we agrèed that this is the best place so far. The resort is owned by a nice german/thai couple. We booked a bungalow with sea view, and it is perfect. "Sea view" here is an understatement. The only thing you see when looking straight out from the balcony and bedroom, is the sky and the sea. Love sitting outside in the morning, sipping coffee and listen to the birds and the waves. Everything works perfect in the bungalow. Big bedroom with both a/c and fan. Same with the livingroom. Good and reasonably priced minibar. Fast wifi. Excellent breakfast. Not buffet, but you order from a menu with a huge variety. We ate dinner in the restaurant the other night, and was very satisfied. Plenty of restarants nearby. The austrian next door, and the With Elephant across the road both serve good food. Very nice and quiet pool area. Staff is excellent as well. This is the first place we have stayed where the room has been cleaned while we were eating breakfast. 10 mins walk to White sand beach. We highly reccomend this place!!

The management in this place are truly abysmal. We were overcharged on the bill and then when we queried it they called the police! I get the feeling that this happens a great deal as the police were somewhat bored by the whole thing and were apologetic to us and the matter was sorted - but the resort management never showed their faces. The poor receptionist had to try and sort the matter, and he was obviously not charged with enough responsibility to make decisions. The management were hiding from us all the time, although they were nearby! The manager/owner (?) just was not interested in hearing what we had to say and just kept telling the staff to call the police.
The resort itself is reasonable. It is small, but the rooms are at a fair price. They are not the cleanest rooms I have ever seen (nor the best equipped), but they come at a fairly low price so my expectations were managed. I would say that, with the terrible management attitude, there are better resorts in the price bracket in the middle of White Sands - Top is definitely out of town (but not quiet!). If you are German then yes, you would probably feel more welcome, myself and my family (4 adults and 2 kids) didn't feel welcome at all.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my Thai girlfriend. She was the only Thai person staying there and I was the only American. Every guest was German. We felt out of place. We werent treated nicely. More like outsiders. If you are NOT German then dont stay here! The Thai bartender/pool boy was the only nice person working there. If you are German then only stay in a seaview room. It's the only thing this tiny resort offers. It's at the south end of White Sand Beach. The nice part of this town is the North end. The south part has all the bar girl bars. So it's good if ur single and that is what ur looking for. The North part of White Sand Beach has the nicer restaurants and clubs. As for the room..The AC is in the bedroom and stays in the bedroom making the living room, kitchen and bathroom unlivable. So tho it's a nice size, u really just stay in the bedroom so it's actually really small. Also, if u dont like wind, dont stay here. The wind whips up around 4am and lasts til the sun comes up. I'm not talking about a little wind. I'm talking blustery winds up to 50mph where I thought we'd be blown out to sea! The food at Paul's is average. Eat somewhere else. We walked by places that are right on the beach that are in the same price range. Pick one of those! We picked this hotel based on it's reviews. It's ashame that the reviews are either fake and written by all the owner's german friends or people just dont know what a nice place is. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Koh Chang is beautiful! First tip: Rent motorbikes! Only $5 a day and fun. Take them to all the beaches and waterfalls, restaurants and bars. The Beaches: White Sand Beach is the nicest beach for swimming and laying out. Stay at the North section of it. Kai Bae has kayaking which is fun to do at sunset and romantic too ;) The beach has ruined coral a couple hundred feet out though so not great for swimming. The town here tho boasts the most amount of bars and restaurants. Klong Prao was the most scenic beach. During high tide tho, there isnt much beach. We took a ride on our motorbike and ended up at Barali Resort and had lunch there on the beach. Was really nice and they have there own sand section so they have beach all day long. Little night life at this beach tho. But Kai Bae and White Sand arent far with ur motorbike or taxi. Snorkeling is at the islands south of Koh Chang. I recommend doing this also. Bring Mosquito spray..It is a jungle so at night u can get eaten alive.

Worst ever hotel of my life. Breakfast is included, but they give you one egg and a stone hard bread. You want more, you must buy. They say its worth 150 bhat, but for 150 you can get superior service in the "white elephant restaurant " located infront of hotel, you can play pool and Playstation for free. Most important, the manager yelled at us when checking out. He abused us openely. No wonder why all the rooms in hotel were empty. He was just pissed because I ate breakfast of 2 people, but guess what, i also paid for 2 people, so i must get service of 2 people. He called us cheaters, liars and so much more. In short, their hotel deserves to stay empty.

After having traveled extensively over a dozen of expat years to each and every possible holiday destination in South East Asia, I had a stroke and start recouping from it. Stepping back from the task of exploring new frontiers and places for me, I began repeated visits to places I did like before. One of the places within easy reach from my residence south of Ayutthaya is Koh Chang in the province of Trat.. My last trip there dates back to 2004. to my surprise, even during monsoon season, there was a boatload full of happy faces on the ferry that arrived for us - and I boarded it in good spirit for the 30 minute journey there. Without a pre-arranged accommodation due to the low season, I took my chances and went in blind and without a booking. The public transport (a songtheauw) took us to Hat Sai Khao (a.k.a. White Sand Beach), a short trip around the northern tip of the island, all pristine beaches face west on the island. We entered the holiday village from the north and I remembered a cliff on the southern end marked the end of the civilized area on my former trip. My female companion was very excited, when she caught glimpses of the unspoiled lengthy beach between the developments here. A newer development on the cliff-side of the village proved to be only a quarter of a mile in distance from the sandy away, a short walk saves big bucks, because prime locations demand prime prices all over the southeastern asian paradises. The "Top Resort" had a street-side reception and their prices were indeed much lower than what those beachside-resorts charge! 1490 Baht /night landed us a gorgeous garden bungalow further up the cliff. We found out that it was a good choice, besides the queen bed, there were plenty of furnitures inside, a full-blown mini-kitchen with fridge, toaster, stove - they even featured a washing machine and the obvious TV-set with a multitude of English channels, both movie and news style. They feature a total of 3 of these bungalows. There are approx. 8 hotel style rooms as well plus some fantastic chalets over the top of the cliff, facing the gulf. Unfortunately those were taken, but we'll keep those prime jewels in mind for return visits soon. The whole resort hugs the cliff and natural vegetation provides plenty of shadow on a tropical hot day. A neat, oddly shaped pool for guests on the cliffs top provides refreshment for guests and has shady as well as sunny areas. A nearby pool-bar was our favorite hangout in the evenings, picturesque sundowns are a dime a dozen here. Don't forget to bring your cam. The family-run resort sports a little strip-mall by the roadside. Great wine selection and tasty meat products plus a bakery guaranteed us that we were never hungry or thirsty. A gourmet deli attracts customers from a wide radius, but it was convenient for us to have it all on site. Their restaurant features indoor and outdoor dining, the outdoor terrace overlooks the sea. Dreams of sunsets will linger long in our memories, the food is being prepared by a New York experienced European chef. Servings are of the diet-breaker-variety and the service was excellent. Wines bought in the deli may be consumed here as well, we had plenty of dinner-feasts here. All in all, our budget wasn't stressed as much as we expected, so we enjoyed the elephant trekking and a highly recommended swim-with-dolphins-adventure plus several other budget-minded activities as well. Great place for first-timers, the staff speaks excellent English and the management seemed to be well informed about the abundance of things to do here. We were never bored and the monsoon-showers,which pelted us this time of the year on occasion will be non-existent, when we return to Koh Chang. The White Sand Beach, that put Koh Chang on tourist's maps, is nearby and matches the top-beaches around the gulf with ease. Swimming and any beach activity will keep you busy. Great Spas and Thai-massages are to be had within a couple hundred yards, bars and nightlife can be had further down the road, but we were well out of reach of the acoustic disturbances there. Top Resort is also a good choice for families, as they have a few family rooms and a studio with a great view on top of the restaurant building. A little stair climbing is involved here, as the entire resort hugs a natural cliff. A steep, but manageable path down to the sea generates true bounties for beachcombers, but the small beach here is rocky. Very good choices were made by the owner family on the mattress and bedsheets, technical features were well maintained and the room was spotless clean, which is a rarity in Thailand. Due to it's relatively small size, advance reservation will be executed by us, because we definitely want to return to this resort.
