This is a sublime mix of old and new - a genuine palace still owned by the same Royal family with bags of history. Home of the legendary lady Ahilya Bai who is still much revered here and taken to a level of luxury by the current generation. From initial welcome to sad goodbye this is a marvellous experience. Drinks... More

We have been to Ahilya 7 years ago. It was such a jewel in our memories that we had to come back though we tend to search new locations all the time across India. Coming back proved to be good decision. Ghats below the Fort tend to be more crowdy, but that is how it goes in India. All the... More

We stayed in the Narmada Suite which overlooks the broad and beautiful river. it is a tastefully done room. The rooms on this property are all different and some are better than others. This suite is by far the nicest of all, though Imli and Neem are good rooms too. Unfortunately, we chose three extremely noisy days for our holiday.... More

The fort is an amazing place to experience some Indian heritage. The staff will do everything to make you feel like a king. It is an experience like no other. Just one odd thing is that they don't entertain walk in guests. The food menu has continental lunch and Indian dinner.

A truly spectacular property. Spectacular not only due to its location, high up on top of Ahilya Fort, but also its character. A place where time stands still. The rooms are well laid out and spacious each with its customary writing desk taking one back to the era of letter writing... One could feel the romance of this place being... More

We visited this place on invitation for breakfast. It is the personal residence of the Royal family. Very well maintained, retaining the original architecture. The views of the Narmada and ghats are lovely. Old family possessions and artefacts are spread throughout the property, giving one a peep in the past. A great experience. The bookings for the overnight stay are... More

Back again after a year. Great rooms, great food, excellent ambience, perfect escape from the madness of Indian traffic. Right on the river with wonderful views of sunrise and sunset. This second visit was better than the first and very happy to return again. My wife speaks Hindi and there is a school teacher across the river who was happy... More

Maheshwar is an oversized hamlet located on the northern bank of river narmada...approx 70Kms from the town of mhow, it is 13 Km off the NH-3 and has a decent last mile connectivity...those approaching the town from Indore side should go over the city of Dhamnod and come back to maheshwari chowk in the town... once inside the town you... The Ahilya fort is a perfect getaway for a romantic holiday. Located on the banks of the lovely Narmada, in the historic fort of the legendary Ahilya bai holkar, the hotel has maintained its old world charm. The staff drawn from the locals, some having served in the palace over generations, are most warm and effecient. The rooms are well... More
