Herring Hall is the best Bed and Breakfast we have stayed in! We stayed two nights in August as we were celebrating my birthday. We were treated to a sumptuous breakfast each morning. We enjoyed homemade black raspberry jam, homemade apple butter and biscuits, pancakes, fruit, and egg dishes. I have an allergy to beef and pork and Anne was so gracious to make turkey sausage and turkey bacon for me. Anne is so friendly and helpful. She gave us several ideas of places to visit during our stay in Lexington and surrounding area. Our room was the General room and it was so pretty and comfortable. There was even delicious pound cake and there were snacks in the dining room each day! This home is so rich in history and Anne gave us a tour of the house and told us several interesting historic facts about it. We very highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast.
Herring Hall Exceptional Bed & Breakfast Experience
Anne was an amazing host! She & Brad were so very kind and made us feel right at home!! The home itself was beautifully and lovingly restored to its original bones. The home was rich in history and had been in Annes family for over a century. The floors were original wide plank flooring, polished to a sheen. The home sits off of a secondary road, surrounded by open pastures and cattle. To say it was meticulous would be an understatement. Each morning A delicious breakfast was prepared by both Brad & Anne. Such a special treat with many ingredients right off their farm. Anne was a delight-great sense of humous & a splash of color in a world needing good energy,. Brad & Anne were a wealth of information for our crew as we explored the area. We stayed in the suite which was wonderful and was restored to its original era. It provided 3 people with an opportunity to feel connected and yet have our own bedrooms and space. The bedrooms were both large with a connecting bathroom. Herring Hall was so very peaceful, quiet and yet only 5 minutes to the natural bridge recently designated as a dark sky, and 15 minutes to historic Lexington with awesome restaurants, breweries, shops….Herring Hall wonderful location…wonderful hosts!! We are already planning our return!!
Perfect blend of historic charm and modern comforts.
Herring Hall is a beautiful home, restored with care to maintain the original charm and authentic history, while adding modern comforts. For example, the bedrooms are appointed with antiques as well as clocks with USB ports; the lovely claw-foot bathtubs have shower heads that give you a nice hot shower. The breakfast is delicious - spoon bread to die for; delicious homemade applesauce; scrumptuous biscuits; and fresh fruit. Herring Hall pound cake is available around the clock. The hosts strike the right balance between friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive. Near Lexington, Natural Bridge, hiking trails, and loads of fun activities. Will definitely stay here again.

Herring Hall is a beautiful house in a beautiful location. Check in and out were easy, the Bright Bovine room was comfy, and it's just a short drive to Natural Bridge State Park and dining in Lexington. The house itself and the furnishings are amazing, and the artwork (including paintings by Anne) adds a great touch. I highly recommend this B&B!

We could not have had a better experience than at Herring Hall. We look for beauty, charm, cleanliness, quiet and a great bed in an inn, and Herring Hall offers all of these. Our room (and perhaps all the rooms) was decorated with great care, using memorabilia from the life of Anne's father. She took the time to explain them and tell us a little about his life. It was like staying the particularly elegant home of a good friend. I am especially grateful that Anne took the time to mail a favorite pair of earrings I had left there.

This Inn epitomizes elegant southern hospitality . Ann is gracious and welcoming. The bed and breakfast and the grounds are simply breathtaking. Everything is so clean it was just so nice! We enjoyed our sangrias on the front porch listening to the birds and enjoying the lovely views. Breakfast was delicious all homemade items that featured local ingredients. There is such a rich history here. It is quiet and just a short drive to the natural bridge. We can’t wait to return.

As soon as we arrived, Ann greeted us at the porch with her winning smile and southern charm. She immediately gave us a leisurely tour of the inn while pointing out various furnishings and describing their significance to the inn’s and the region’s history. When we finished the tour, Ann’s husband had taken our bags upstairs to our room. And what a room it was! Expertly decorated with a blue theme and Washington and Lee University memorabilia. Ann then brought us each a glass of sangria. Breakfast in the morning was delicious…..mimosas, biscuits, preserves, apple butter, eggs and sausage, cucumbers, tomatoes, and fresh ground coffee that was to die for. The entire inn was shiny clean, bedding was comfortable, and our every need was taken care of. My wife and I are already trying to find a good excuse to visit the area again just so we can stay at Herring Hall. We highly recommend it!…

I stayed at Herring Hall just for one night while driving through the area. I normally find a chain hotel on the side of the highway, but was intrigued by Herring Hall. I wish I had more time to spend there, Anne is a fantastic host. The setting is beautiful, and the rooms take you back in time with historic decor that has connections to the Herring family. Upon my arrival, Anne gave me a full tour of the house that included several interesting historic facts, which, as a history buff, I loved! I regret that I was unable to stay for breakfast, but if the food is as wonderful as Anne’s hospitality, you won’t want to miss it. I left an item in my room by mistake upon my departure, and Anne has been so helpful in helping get the item mailed back to me. Thank you Anne, I hope to be back soon!…

We had a great stay last night. The hosts are extremely kind and stored our cake for us, offer free coffee throughout the day, and have central AC throughout the house. The General room was very nice and we slept well. Would recommend this place.

We stayed for a night in the general room. Beautifully decorated with history and handed down from the generations that have owned and worked here. The owners were very hospitable and generous. Gave us a tour and gave us lots of information about the area and the history about the house. Had a mint julep upon arrival. Also a homemade pound cake in the lobby which was amazing!! with snacks, coffee, and water. Woke up to an amazing southern cooked breakfast of homemade biscuits, chocolate zucchini bread, frittata, homemade apple butter, mimosas, lots of fresh tomatoes, stewed tomatoes, fruit, and bacon. All fresh from the garden or local. It was amazing. Also loved the décor around the house and cow pastures around. It is quiet but close enough to natural bride/ lexington. will stay again, highly recommend…
