Unbelievable experience. A little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Excellent room and believable service. The restaurants at the resort were excellent. Just a great experience and I can't wait to go back. Equestrian center is amazing. Got to see cupcake!!! Downtown Middleburg is a nice location full of shops and great restaurants too.
This was our second visit!! Amazing staff and great ambiance. Bar had great cocktails, and breakfast was extremely well done. Service and turndown excellent. Rooms were extremely high quality. Would highly recommend and will return!
Frankly, I was underwhelmed by this luxury resort. The staff are all very nice and the facilities are clean. But when I think of a luxury resort room with a fireplace I imagine a fluffy down comforter and a roaring fireplace. What I got was a thin comforter on a mediocre mattress and a “fireplace” that was more reminiscent of a candle. The towels in the rooms are scratchy and certainly did not meet my expectation for bath towels in a room that costs $1000 a night. The maps provided at checkin are difficult to follow or just incorrect. The signage in the building is insufficient. I struck out on a walk with the trail map provided that labels the trails with names and was quickly confused as the actual trails were labeled with letters. The signs included a QR code that took me to a map on my phone that accurately depicted the trails, otherwise I might still be wandering in circles. The QR code should just be included on the paper map. The food was fine, both room service and the Wine Club. For the price, fine just isn’t enough. There were other small things, like the buttons on the thermostat did not work consistently and it was like a scavenger hunt trying to figure out how to turn half the lights on in my room. The toilet paper is one ply, reminiscent of a gas station bathroom. There was lime scale/soap buildup on the showerheads. The spa was quite nice and I did get a good massage. My complaint in regards to the spa is that the reminder email includes instructions that one should arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to the appointment and can stay for two hours afterwards. On the phone when I made the appointment I was told I could use the Spa for two hours prior to my treatment, which turned out to be the correct information. It’s unnecessarily confusing to have the reminder email providing incorrect information. I do not see myself returning.…
Had a wonderful day at the Salamander Resort. Spent the afternoon at the Spa, where I received an amazing massage from Benita. She was phenomenal. My friend will be requesting Ben from now on after her spectacular massage! We then had an amazing meal at Gold Cup. My friend and I were sharing a meal and our waitress, Rachel, split it between two plates without us even asking! 5-Star service!
Go here to spend some time working in a fun environment. "J" the bartender is the man. Tremendous service, engaging, super professional. Very knowledgeable and informative about the resort and the area. You won't regret it.
We have loved staying at the Salamander and have done so many times as we live nearby and go for weekend escapes. They have great kids club which allows us to drop our two children for evening activities and dinner while we go to dinner in Harrimans. That is where things have fallen severely short in the past 6 months. The food at Harrimans was seeming to improve in quality and presentation and we had been incrementally impressed. Our last 2 experience in Dec 2022 were huge disappointments, once for dinner with friends at Harrimans, and once on Christmas day for their buffet breakfast. The food was terrible on both occasions. And the experience on Christmas Day was far below the experiences the Salamander has consistently delivered in the past. We were herded like cattle to a back hotel reception room, with plentiful luke warm or stale food with at least 100 people all siting banquet style. Nothing like our experiences in past year. And we spend $650 for 5 of us (3 adults and 2 children). I called to speak to the general manager of the restaurant and left a message that was never returned. I am sad to see the decline in service and quality at the restaurant as this is an important part of the resort experience. I don't think we will be returning as I cannot even find someone at the Salamander who wants to hear our feedback and make improvements. Don't go is the bottom line - its not the same as it was. Sad, it had so much to offer in the past.…
the salamander resort and spa really outdid themselves on this new years eve party and brunch during our three night stay. We had three dogs and they were all well taken care of... We hiked and used the spa in addition to reading in the lounges.
I've been to the resort for events, but hadn't stayed as a guest since before the pandemic. I was surprised at how much the room prices had increased. But I gave it a go anyway. The prices outpace what I've paid for a 5-star hotels in Europe, so I expected a stellar experience. The food was average, service was painfully slow, and we couldn't even get seated for breakfast without advance reservations. Beautiful property, but overall the value wasn't worth the price. Hoping the property and experience improve signficantly.
As nice as the property is, you can’t help but notice all the glasses and trash left behind with no one to clean up even after I told the hostess the room was a mess where guests had been previously. I owned and operated a property north of Manhattan and would always keep areas clean and fresh! Please have your staff pay attention and do walk arounds. As I don’t want to come into a place and have to move glasses like I had to! This was in the main area considered the library room and it was not busy, staff were just hanging around.
I have a personal tradition that I do a solo staycation in a nice upscale hotel once a year. This year I decided to take my solo staycation for my birthday at the Salamander. I was so excited and had such high hopes. The Salamander is a very nice hotel, however I feel there were several missed opportunities that could have made my stay better. The good: The hotel is beautiful. Even though it's a huge property, it felt really cozy as if I was staying in a large home. The Gold Cup lounge is nice area to have a drink and grab some lunch. My waitress was spot on with her drink recommendations. There was rain and ice mix one day during my stay. The concierge team was very friendly and made great recommendations on activities in the hotel. The spa was the game changer for this trip. Before, my spa visit I was questioning if I made the right choice with coming here. My massage therapist for my spice wrap was amazing. I enjoyed all of the spa amenities. Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow for me to enjoy the heated pool but everything else was amazing. The housekeeping staff and in-room dining servers were amazing as well. I enjoyed the cookies offered at turn down. Even though, I wasn't able to enjoy the outdoor amenities due to the weather I did take a walk before I checked out and was able to visit the stables for a few minutes. I got to meet cupcake the miniature horse on site. The cons: The rooms are beautiful. My first room had a lovely view of the lawn. However, I noticed that the shower heads looked as if they lime scale and soap scum on them. I told the front desk and they sent someone to clean it, while I was out. When I returned I was told it was normal wear and tear. I've stayed at many hotels and never experienced that and definitely didn't expect that at a hotel of this caliber. I asked for another room. They moved me across the hall. That bathroom had the same issues with the showers, but not as much. I was tired so I accepted it. However, when I opened the curtains I saw my view was a tree. A tree was in front of the balcony, obstructing the view. Even though I had the same class of room, I preferred to the view I had in the first room. I really didn't want to spend my birthday looking at a tree. Especially since we were rained/iced in. Lastly, I was speaking with someone on my stroll and they asked me if I was enjoying my birthday stay and if I liked the wine and birthday card. I was surprised because there wasn't any in the first or second room. She was nice enough to give me a bottle of wine on the spot. I appreciate and am grateful for the gesture but if I never ran into her I guess I wouldn't have known about. It would have been a lovely surprise receiving it when I walked in the room. Overall, the Salamander is a beautiful property and is a great place to stay. However, I had high expectations going there. The cons noted above was a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory stay for me. …
