First impressions are important. As we drove up the driveway to this historic house that was built about 1770, it seemed like we were approaching a stately house set in the rolling horse countryside outside of Middleburg, Virginia. However, when we got out of the...More

We were here for four nights and have never stayed at such a characterful and atmospheric place. OK, the bathroom fittings are not the most modern, but they work and are more than amply offset by the beautiful rooms filled with family treasures. We stayed...More

Welbourne's the worst B&B and hotel in which I've ever stayed. Dirty, shabby, decrepit upstairs (but very elegant downstairs) then the manager was rude and tried to cheat us on our bill, our bed was unmade on arrival, our bedroom door was locked from the...More

For the proprietors: I cannot find the two short stories written about your historic home by F. Scott Fitzgerald ("Her Last Case," Saturday Evening Post, 1937?) and Thomas Wolfe ("The House at Melbourne," 1934? 1935?). Perhaps there are more. I presume you have them there; may my wife and I come over to read them when we are visiting my brother Russell McKelway next spring (he lives in the country southeast of Berryville)? Thanks, Ben McKelway

Hi Ben We stayed at Melbourne back in June this year, and they certainly have the Scott Fitzgerald short story as we read it there. I don't know about the Thomas Wolfe one. Good luck
