The General Francis Marion is a lovely boutique hotel. My wife and I spent a weekend at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were both pleasant and responsive. We had requested a refrigerator for our room and it was present at check-in. A subsequent request for wine glasses and ice was also handled promptly. The hotel was... More

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Many travelers enjoy the slower pace and vintage decor of the hotel. We hope you can visit us again! P.S. We are working on the board games! More

This is an excellent hotel with beautiful rooms and courteous service. There is a restaurant for added convenience and a few local restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Am pleased to recommend to my friends and family. Will definitely stay here again. Would be a great setting for a wedding and/or reception.

I love this quaint boutique hotel. I have stayed here multiple times over the last 4 years for business. This is a true gem of Marion. It hearkens to a slower more simple time yet has the amenities of a modern hotel. Rooms are well appointed, clean, and fresh. Staff are friendly and warn. After checking in, pick up a... More

It is very nice to see so many of the old downtown historically hotels being renovated and turned into quaint boutique hotels. I-81 has several and this is one of them. You can opt for a boring cookie cutter interstate motel or drive an extra mile and, for only a few dollars more, enjoy the charm of a quaint historic... More

We were in town to do some hiking and found this charming little hotel. The rooms are very nice (splurge for the larger room) and the service was great! We really enjoyed staying here. The small downtown was quaint - we enjoyed the BBQ place across the street for lunch and The Wooden Pickle for dinner. We would very much... More

If you are a history buff and might enjoy the charm and character that can come with staying in a remodeled hotel built in the 20's, then GFM is the place to stay when visiting Marion, VA. The hotel has an ajoining restaurant and bar.....take time to read the background on the "black rooster" name. We stayed in a luxury... More

Fantastic historic hotel that has been restored. Nice clean room and wonderful staff. There's not much to do in town on a Sunday night, but this is a great little place downtown. Check out the original tile floor in the game room!

Enjoyed the stay at the Francis Marion. It has a lot of history and has been restored. Our room was a little rough around the edges but the character makes up for it. The bar and restaurant was excellent. If we return to Marion, will stay here again.

I spent a week in the General Francis Marion in the Sherwood Anderson Suite. This is a lovely suite in the back of the hotel, blissfully quiet, spacious and comfortable. It was decorated with black and white photographs of Sherwood Anderson and Eleanor Copenhaver Anderson. On a stand was a book of Sherwood's letters to Eleanor, just to set the... More

This hotel is centrally located in the Main Street, near the famous Moonshine bar and close to Wolfes Rib place, we had specially wanted to visit Wolfes for ribs however it closed at 8 pm, go figure! Anyway the unintended result of this was that we dined at the hotel in the combined bar/ dining area and the food was... More
