Great hotel but 2 things stood out: 1. They should consider upgrading the quality of coffee - as you end being forced to go find it in town, assuming you like a good cup of coffee in the morning. 2. The hotel "mascot" dog barked consistently from 5:30am to 5:45am on Saturday morning which ruined my sleep. Perhaps the mascot should sleep somewhere else? Otherwise make sure you have a room at the opposite end and nowhere close to the lobby (above or below).

I am from Lynchburg and decided to stay here for a visit from DC. The hotel is so cozy. The rooms are spacious and the beds are so comfortable. A light breakfast is provided in the cutest shoe box. Just a delight to stay here. Highly recommended. I didn’t dine in the hotel restaurant but there is a great restaurant, in close proximity that has a great menu.

Loved the history of the shoe factory and all the original artifacts, rock and stone. We had a jr suite which was very spacious. Continental breakfast was delivered to our door. Great downtown waterfront location with lots of yummy dining choices! Live music at one of the two on-site restaurants. Staff was very friendly!

The Craddock Terry Hotel has a message on their website that states that they believe travel is about creating experiences and memories and I could not agree more. They did not disappoint. The conveniently located area of the converted shoe company transition to a hotel is amazing and there was easy access to everything we wanted to see by walking down (and up) town. They carry through with elegance the theme of the prior shoe business. The room was luxurious, clean, comfortable, and inviting. The breakfast orders placed in the shoebox was adorable. The walk-in shower are a delightful comfort after a walk of the 7 hills in Lynchburg on a 90 degree day. The only thing that was disappointing was that the onsite restaurant was closed on Monday during our visit but the I Penny Loafer’s visit with me in the lobby made up for our bad timing. Who is Penny Loafer, she is the friendliest concierge I have ever met in my travels? Make sure you stop by the front desk and ask to meet her.

Excellent customer service in all areas from booking, check in and check out. Rooms are modern structures in a renovated factory. Excellent character and location. Location to above two restaurants and within walking distance of several others. The only drawback, lack of a hot breakfast although the shoe box delivery is cool. If they could devise a hot/ reheated breakfast this would be a five star review.

Most probably the nicest hotel in Lynchburg, VA, in an upscale Marriott developed from a converted old brick shoe factory, located on the James River with two onsite excellent restaurants. The only strange attraction is breakfast bun, juice, and yogurt served at your room door in a wooden shoe shine box! Must have looked good on paper, but not very practical. The restaurants, one for a pizza lunch and one for a very upscale dinner (Shoemaker's) were excellent and right in the hotel. A very cute and trendy idea for a nice hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Craddock Terry Hotel on the Bluff and enjoyed it tremendously. The Craddock Hotel is Lynchburg’s best historic downtown boutique hotel. The hotel has a wonderful charming atmosphere. One of my favorite items are pretty shoes. The hotel was originally a shoe factory and remodeled into a cool unusual hotel. The outside has a life size high heel. Super cool and very inviting. The rooms and the ceilings are beautiful with wooden beams. The rooms are spacious and absolutely beautiful. When we entered the hotel we were greeted by Jessica and Daniela at the front desk. The front desk employees were friendly, helpful and professional. Our visit was fun , interesting and smooth. The manager Dana, runs the hotel with ease. The hotel has two top rated restaurants. Our meals were fabulous from both restaurants. The hotel is also pet friendly. Parking is free and easy. The downtown is within walking distance. I recommend staying at the Craddock Terry you will have a memorable weekend.

Great hotel and location too bad it is ruined by terrible staff and customer (non)service. Only one of the front desk staff was friendly (dark haired younger lady). The other 2 (blonde hair older women) were beyond rude, unprofessional, and hostile. While we were checking in, a man complained about being double charged. The dark haired lady was handling it professionally but the blonde woman interrupted her and repeatedly yelled at the man. Then another lady came to complain that the heat rather than the AC was on. The blonde lady barked at her and basically called her stupid for being unable to manage the thermostat. All this was going on while this same blonde women was supposed to be checking us in, but they lost our reservation. After 20 minutes she found it but they gave away our larger, more expensive room and gave us a room that 3 people could not sleep in so they brought us a blow up mattress that took up the whole small room. We were told that we would receive a discount for our trouble. No discount was given. We simply paid the current charge for the smaller room. The next day, we had no electricity in the am, so were unable to get ready for the wedding we were attending that afternoon. Once the electricity came back on, we had no hot water. When we advised the blonde lady of this issue she was rude and nasty. I was appalled by her attitude. I explained that I understand that hotels cannot always control things but they should have hot water for all of their guests and should offer a credit or discount when things go this wrong. All I received was hostility and arrogance- how dare I complain. When we checked out a new blonde lady was at the desk so I thought perhaps she would be more receptive. Quite the opposite. Before I even said hardly anything, she interrupted me saying they can’t do anything about the City brown out. I wasn’t even going to mention the lack of electricity. I was going to say what were they going to offer us for losing our reservation, giving us a smaller room that adults, kids, and dog could not even walk around in and for having no hot water. She scoffed that I already received my discount. I had to explain to the woman that charging us the actual rate of the room rather than the $60 more for the large room was not a discount. She said the manager would contact me. I told her that would be appreciated. Two weeks later, not surprisingly, I have not been contacted. Someone needs to explain to these staff why the hotel industry is called hospitality, as these women are unfamiliar with the concept.

We wanted to enjoy this hotel. The check-in was so pleasant. The doggie was friendly and interactive. But, after our one night stay, we awoke to the sun shining into the windows and highlighting the COBWEBS, which spanned 6-9 inches from the tops of the curtains. They were very high ceilings, so the COBWEBS were not immediately noticeable, when we only wanted to get to sleep. I would not post these; however, when I showed these pics to the clerk at checkout, she blew me off — not even an apology. Bring a ladder and cleaning gear if you want to stay here.

My wife and I travel regularly and stay in hotels across the continental U.S., Mexico, and Caribbean islands. I have averaged between 150-200 nights per year in hotels for the last 15+ years. I often stay in properties owned by Hilton or Marriot; however, for this trip, my wife decided to try something new and I chose The Craddock Terry hotel. I assure you, we will never make this mistake again. Our reservation was for four nights at over $200 per night. Upon arrival at the hotel, we discovered the lobby was undergoing a remodel construction project: not a big deal. While checking in, we were informed the hotel does not provide daily maid service, not even if requested by the guest: unacceptable. Hotel management excuse was maids cannot enter rooms because of COVID. Guests can place their towels and trash outside their door and the maid will replace the towels and remove the trash. So for $200 per night you can do the maid’s job. It gets better. ALL night long trains transit the tracks approximately 100 yards from the hotel blowing their horns numerous times. We asked the manager if this is a nightly occurrence and he offered us ear plugs or a “noise machine!” Great, over $200/night to listen to trains AND pretend I’m a maid. When we arrived back at our room on night two, the trash bins were outside our room and we had NO clean towels! We contacted the front desk and they brought us clean towels about 30 mins later. On morning two, we did our required maid service and placed our used towels and garbage outside our door. When leaving the hotel, we advised the maid we placed our towels outside our room and requested clean towels. The maid informed us she could not enter our room to replace the towels! Hmmm? We stop at the front desk to inquire how we will get fresh towels. The front desk manager informed us the maid will replace them! I let the manager know their system is broken and unacceptable. If you like to travel so you can spend nights next to the train track and pretend your a maid for the low cost of $200 per night, this is the place for you! If not, stay at the Hilton property (The Virginian) further from the tracks and get daily maid service if you desire. If you MUST stay at this hotel, book your nights individually, check out in the morning and arrive to clean sheets and towels every afternoon…for the same price…and you don’t have to do free maid work! THERE IS NO SOLUTION FOR THE TRAIN NOISE. Hotel management claims the train issues and lack of maid service is posted on their website. I challenge you to find that information on their website anywhere (Trains run next to the hotel nightly and hotel does not provide maid service.) Good luck! On a brighter note: the old shoe factory converted into a hotel provides a unique experience not often found. The Waterstone restaurant on the first floor has good food and drinks at reasonable prices in a nice environment. However, the noise and lack of service far outweighs the looks, food, and drinks. We will never stay at this property again!
