We stayed at the Black Dog Farm during a family reunion. We had the entire house and everyone had an excellent time. The kids loved seeing the horses and chickens. The accommodations, food and amenities are excellent. Kristen and Phil are kind and gracious hosts. I would highly recommend staying here if you plan to visit.

If ever there was a perfect place to relax and leave the stress of everyday life behind, this is it! From the inviting look of the stately old manor house, to the beautifully maintained gardens, you immediately feel a sense of peacefulness come over you, and that’s just the beginning! Innkeepers Kristen and Phil are two of the kindest and most hospitable people we have ever met and go out of their way to make their guests feel at home, from the delicious home made breakfasts to the attention to every tiny detail in the rooms. Of course, the highlight of the stay is meeting official greeters Nina and Niko, two lovable black labs, and all of the farm animals. It was a real treat hearing Kristen tell of their backstories, especially the horses. We cannot say enough good things about our experience there and are already planning a return. We arrived as strangers and left as friends, and we can’t think of a better compliment than that.

This is the second time my daughter and I stayed at this wonderful bed & breakfast inn. Since it was spring we had a chance to truly enjoy the farm with beautiful scenery and all the lovingly cared for barnyard friends. Delicious breakfast and coffee was the perfect way to start the day! After trips to wineries, dinner outings, it was like coming home as we returned to Black Dog Farm. We love the Welby Suite and its bathroom. The complimentary chocolate and wine are top rate. Kristen, Phil, Nina & Niko (the ladies' man 🥰) are the best hosts. It was so nice to catch up with great conversation and lots of laughs after missing a visit in 2020. Looking forward to our next stay!

We highly recommend Black Dog Farm Inn! It is an easy drive from DC Metro and you really are in the beautiful Virginia countryside at this location. Definitely plan for two nights. The owners are really great and friendly, but they have also created a space where you can be alone on the property, especially on the comfortable deck off of the sleeping room. Keep in mind this is a 200 year old property+, but that said it is in amazing condition and the rooms/especially the king bed are very comfortable and clean. The bathroom is very large and the “rain” shower head was a nice plus. AC works well and the room has a mini fridge complete with bottled water and a bottle of wine. Breakfast was amazing and eggs were courtesy of the nearby flock. Easy location for visiting nearby wineries. We can’t rave enough about the place, and can’t wait to go back in the fall.

I'm tempted not to rave about this place and keep it a secret for my wife and me, but you can't help but tell people when you have such a great experience. We've stayed at plenty of B&Bs in Virginia and this became our new favorite within minutes. Nestled on a hillside and populated by various two and four legged hosts - hens, ducks, the two namesake black labs, and of course, Kristen and Phil - the Black Dog Farm envelopes you in restful serenity from the moment you arrive. Whether you're watching the stars and listening to night sounds from an expansive back deck or taking in the views while sipping coffee in a sunny dining room, the time flies here. We're already looking for time on our calendar to come back - next time with friends or family. Loved the Welby Suite - loved having a fire in the fireplace at night. Breakfast was exceptional. Surprising amount of dining options nearby. Arrive early - there's a lot to enjoy here!
