We were very pleased with our decision to stay at the Brierley Hill B&B. The setting is lovely and we enjoyed sitting on the deck, taking in the beautiful landscape. The location is very convenient to I-81, the town of Lexington, and many hiking options. The rooms and common areas are modern and very clean, breakfast is really delicious, with careful attention given to any dietary needs, and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming.

We enjoyed the relaxing surroundings of Brierley Hill. The location is ideal for exploring Lexington, VA. Our room, the Mountain View, was spacious and comfortable, with a gas fireplace to make it extra cozy. The grounds and long winding driveway were lovely and peaceful for walks, and the view from the porch swing was wonderful. Breakfasts were served graciously by our host Volker, and prepared with care by our hostess, Barbara. You can even buy Barbara's cookbook, which contains many of the recipes we enjoyed during our stay. There were water, coffee, tea and other drinks available, along with candy, on the second floor landing. And every afternoon there was a plate of cake or pastry available in the dining room, after we came home from an outing.
The only glitch in our trip was due to my own failure to thoroughly read the details of the Cancellation Fee Waiver we purchased from Brierley Hill. It covers cancellations made up to three days in advance of arrival. One couple in our party of 6 had to cancel for a medical reason, two days before arrival. As a result, they lost the entire cost of their reservation. I blame only myself for not reading all the details of the waiver. It's clearly stated on Brierley Hill's website. So please learn from my mistake. If you want to protect your reservation fee in the event that you need to cancel, consider purchasing travel insurance from an independent company that has no restriction on when the cancellation is made or the trip interruption occurs. It can be bought from several companies for a cost not much more that the Cancellation Fee Waiver we purchased.

Thank you Jill for your review. So glad you enjoyed your stay, your room and our grounds and the views over the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley. We are very sorry that you had to cancel one room due to a medical reason in your party. We tried to resell the room but as it was a short notice we were not successful doing so. We hope to see you and your husband again one day Volker and Barbara Eckhoff

Volker and Barbara recently took ownership of this gorgeous B&B, and they are doing an amazing job taking care of every last attention to detail. Volker is a phenomenal host, and Barbara is a wonderful chef creating tasty breakfast options with a German flair.

We purchased the Romance Package and received extra special attention on our 2-night sojourn. The view of the mountains from the Valley View Room is exceptionally stunning. The multi acre grounds include a porch swing on the deck, a private garden walkway to a gazebo lit at night for ambiance, and a large breakfast room with ample room for social distancing.

The rooms and bathrooms were extremely clean. Downtown Lexington is only a short drive down the hill and offers a myriad of dining options.

I normally don’t write reviews. This place EARNED 5 stars. Treat yourself. You Won’t Be Disappointed.

During this time of the pandemic, it was a real joy to find such a clean and spacious B&B that was quiet with gorgeous views. The house had been newly renovated only a year or two ago. Coffee, tea, and other drinks were available at any time, as well as small snacks. Breakfast was tasty and satisfying---also with a view over the valley and out to mountains beyond. The hosts are very accommodating...a great place to stay for an anniversary outing that included hiking on nearby trails.

My family of four (two adults and two children of 7yo and 5yo) spent three nights in this astonishing B&B, in the pink cottage. We ended up at Brierley Hill by chance but at the end we would say ‘what a chance!’. The B&B is cleaned, well organized and the breakfast is amazing!!! So carefully and fresh baked and so nicely presented. And so abundant.
Wolker and Barbara are the perfect hosts. Thank you! One night we had some food delivered and they set a table on the terrace for us four.
The location is incredible, with a breathtaking view on the mountains and three minutes driving away from Lexington. Strongly recommended!!!

My husband and I spent 3 nights in the Shenandoah Suite and loved the total experience. The suite is separate from the others and has 2 french doors opening onto a long private patio with 3 seating areas, one with a porch swing! The view of mountains is beautiful in the morning and again, in the shade, in the afternoon and evening. We had a gas fireplace in the sitting room and an electric fireplace in the bedroom. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was perfection. The setting was very conducive to relaxing, which was our primary goal. The hosts were friendly and easy to talk to but knew when to stay in the background. Breakfasts were inventive, 3 courses, and delicious and the afternoon sweets were always good - we never missed them! Many B&B's serve breakfast at a long table for all the guests, but here there were separate tables for each room, which we were very happy with. We enjoyed excellent dinners at the Southern Inn and Bistro on Main (get reservations at both!) and had a fine supper at Palms on another night. The town of Lexington is only 7 minutes or so away and very easy to come and go from. Brierley Hill had plenty of information on hikes and other activities nearby. If you reserve an upstairs room, they are beautiful and share a very nice 'common area,' but we were glad to have the privacy that the Shenandoah Suite is designed to allow. We highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast!

My husband and I spent two nights here as a base for exploring Shenandoah National Park and Blue Ridge Mountains. The inn is a five minute drive into the town of Lexington and the location itself is very quiet and peaceful. We stayed in the Blue Ridge Cottage, which was wonderful and very private. The hot tub was the cleanest one I've ever seen at a vacation property (as a hot tub owner, I'm quite picky), and we enjoyed it both nights. The bathroom is spacious and the heated floors were a nice touch. The bed was extremely comfortable. Having a refrigerator was great for storing wine and cheese that we'd picked up in the area to enjoy on our balcony.
The owners, Barbara and Volker, were lovely hosts, and they served a delicious 3-course breakfast in a small dining room with stunning views of the mountains. Charley, their Golden Retriever, is such a sweet fellow and made us miss our own Golden a little less while we were away.
I highly recommend staying here, and have already told a friend who wants to visit the area. Vielen Dank, Barbara und Volker!

My wife Linda and I enjoyed the opportunity to spend three wonderful days and two nights at Volker and Barbara Eckhoff’s Brierley Hill Bed & Breakfast in Lexington, Virginia.

Both Barbara and Volker were welcoming, gracious, thoughtful and engaging. They had foreknowledge that it was my wife’s birthday over the weekend and when we arrived there was a birthday cake and balloons waiting for us in our room. What a wonderful way to start our stay!

The Inn and grounds were immaculate and the Eagles View suite was beautifully furnished as were the dining, sitting areas, decks and porches. The view from our suite overlooking the Shenandoah Valley was breathtaking. The gardens and pathways surrounding the Inn were peaceful and inviting as we sat on the lawn listening to the stillness of the afternoon.

Barbara and Volker’s culinary cuisine for breakfasts each morning left us wanting more. The Braided ham, cheese and tomato Croissant is amazing, as well as the Black Forest Cake!

Volker and Barbara Eckhoffs Brierley Hill Bed & Breakfast was and will always be a fond memory and certainly an experience of a lifetime, one we hope to recreate in the not-to- distant future.

Fondly,

Carl and Linda Lindner
Suffolk, Virginia

The bed and breakfast was absolutely stunning. The inn keepers treated you like family and were always attentive to your needs. Our suite was immaculate with a private porch with amazing views. The suite was huge with a nice fireplace and jacuzzi tub. The attention to detail was superb and the breakfasts were delicious. It was a great way for my wife and I to end the holiday season.

Our weekend stay here was perfect in every way! This is a stunning location, with magnificent views from the breakfast room, the extensive porch, and our room (the Eagle’s View). The place was recently renovated, and the bedding, robes and toiletries were luxurious. The innkeepers were gracious hosts, and the 3 course breakfasts were delicious and filling.

Unless you are traveling in Winter, I would not worry so much about the views from the room. There are lots of great views from the porch areas and dining room. We stayed in the adjacent cottage, but took the opportunity to look through all of the rooms and all were very nice. Unlike the typical B&B in a converted old house, this place was built for the specific purpose of being used thus.
