Had a 2 night stay at the Gin Hotel in order to explore the local area - and it was perfectly located for this. Nice location, easy to wander around 'old town' and great to have parking included. Room was spaciou & clean with a huge bed & coffee making facilities, though was perhaps looking a little tired and could do with an update / addition of an in room fridge. Breakfast good and plenty to eat.

Honestly, an average Hilton is a beautiful building... but I really appreciate their CV-19 procedures. There was a sticker on the door that you broke upon entry to show that no one had entered prior to you. They had a full meal service of prepared hot food (omelets, has browns, etc.) that you ordered from a distance, and then was left in a take a way box on a table for you to collect. They enforced a 5 foot distancing throughout the property. Pool was closed, but that is understandable.

I’m happy with my stay.

My wife and I were looking for a hotel in the Lexington downtown area and this hotel was an excellent choice. The desk staff were very helpful by allowing us to check in 2 hours early, as well providing suggestions for dinner and breakfast. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, and other shops within walking distance of the hotel. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We were not able to utilize the restaurant or fitness center, as they were both closed. Several travel sites mentioned the hotel having free parking and WiFi. Actually there is a mandatory $10 charge of which parking and WiFi is a part of.

I am at a loss as to how this hotel has 4 stars. I would more accurately rate it around a 1.5 or 2. The wash clothes and towels were riddled with red-brown stains. The arm chair looks as if it was peed on or saturated with some sort of beverage. The bed pillow was also stained. The carpet looked in leaned. The room took nearly an hour to cool down once I arrived. The TV is the smallest one I’ve encountered in a hotel in years. The curtains do not block light, thus my room was so bright by 6am that I could not sleep any later. There were not even plates or napkins available and the very sad breakfast- I actually had to carry my toasted bagel to my room in my shirt to avoid being burned. Room service was unavailable, but there were no vending machines either to access even a can of soda. I question the COVID cleaning practices as several of the steps taken at other hotels were blatantly ignored here. The parking is around back of the alley, but there are no back entrances. The best part of the experience was the single employee I encountered- the young woman at the front desk was both friendly and helpful.

Built in 1926, this classic beauty made for a perfect weekend with a large king room (519) located on the corner giving us 3 large windows with views of downtown and the Virginia countryside. Entering the revolving doors there were Christmas displays on both sides and a nicely decorated tree right before the front desk. To the left of the front desk is an attractive staircase that leads you to their bar/restaurant (Junipers) on the 2nd floor. It has an attractive 6 seat bar, dining area and doors to the outside dining area. This 2nd floor open terrace overlooks Main Street, and you get good views of VMI, Washington & Lee and downtown. This is where we had a prime spot watching the Lexington Christmas parade. It was great siting out there both nights and it was comfortable with the plastic pulled down on night two. Even on a busy weekend we had no trouble getting a parking spot behind the hotel. They served a continental breakfast on the 2nd floor that consisted of juices, drinks of all kinds with cereal, pastry's, breads etc, certainly enough to get you on the road. The location in the center of the historic district is fantastic and it allows you to walk to just about everything and never need your car.
The only negatives were the broken back door sensor that had you walking around the entire hotel to get in if the door wasn't left propped open and the corporate cowards bowing to the 2% and changing the name of the hotel. The staff at the hotel was wonderful answering all of our questions and giving nice some local insight. We look forward to a return trip to Lexington and the Robert E Lee will certainly be the frontrunner for lodging.

The room was blah.... small tv mounted on wall with no other wall decorations. Walls were paper thin... could hear every noise from the rooms around us. Man in next room was talking about blueberries at 7:15a.m. The “deluxe” continental breakfast led us to believe there would be eggs, bacon etc but it was only dry cereal, bagels and granola bars. We spent way too much to stay here.... price gouging at over $200/night because it was move in weekend for the college kids.

I'm supposed check into this hotel in a few hours, and they just emailed me to say they canceled my reservation. I've spent thousands of nights in hotels, and this is the first time a hotel has canceled my reservation. Either these people are incompetent, or they care more about overbooking their rooms so they squeeze every drop of revenue and don't care about taking care of their guests. Either way, they suck. Think twice before you book here, and I suggest you read some of the recent reviews (i should have). Looks like they are a declining property.

The Gin Hotel, formerly The Hotel Robert E. Lee, was built in the 1920's and has undergone major restoration under current management. The downtown location is very convenient to the Universities and historical sites. The second floor room we occupied was very stately with 20 foot ceilings and elaborate trim moldings of that period. However, in spite of the ambiance of the restorations, it appears as if this property is struggling. Our room did not have a functioning HVAC system but I was not informed before check-in of this situation. Upon check-out, after voicing my dissatisfaction with the stuffiness and warmth of the room, I was informed that the entire second floor had No Air Conditioning and that this was an ongoing problem that they had been unable to fix. No compensation was offered. To me this was a deceptive business practice that sullied the reputation of this hotel group. And although there was advertising signage promoting "Happy Hour" in the hotel restaurant bar between 3 & 5PM, the doors of the restaurant remained locked until 5PM. Again - no explanation given. There were other operational issues such as sour milk in the breakfast bar that made it apparent they need some better management.

The room carpet was dirty. The room chair was dirty and stained. No hot water in bathroom sink. Sink did not drain properly. The didn't make up or clean our room. (no housekeeping services due to "Covid"...give me a break!). Staff was cold. Coffee was just warm. Breakfast was a joke. Room charge was too expensive for what you get, $217.00 per night plus tax and extras. Hotel was over priced. Overall experience was poor. We will never go there again and either should you.

I booked two rooms for my wife and two other friends. When we checked in, I immediately returned to the front desk. I was told "Sorry, we only have one spa tub room and it's already booked."

I could say a lot of nice things about this hotel. Unfortunately, my experience was colored by the fact that we had been counting on amenities that we paid substantially more for, only to not receive them.

If you do choose to book here, make sure and call beforehand to confirm that you are getting what you paid for.

We do apologize for not meeting your expectations. We have 2 king suites that have a pull out of sofa bed. They are the exact same size but one has a tub and the other does not and they are always priced the same. I hope this helps and if you would like to discuss further let us know.
