We recently traveled to House Mountain Inn, deliberately choosing a week day to avoid crowds. We were not disappointed. The location was serene and the landscaping was gorgeous and well-maintained. We chose the Bratton Mountain Room, which was much larger than most rooms we have stayed in and very comfortable. The hot tub on the balcony was an added bonus. The price included a very lovely dinner, a wine and cheese hour and a tasty cooked breakfast. This Inn made a nice change from the "usual" Inns we stay at, as it was purpose-built and not a converted "whatever". The attention to detail was obvious throughout. There are plenty of areas to relax, hang out, and enjoy the peaceful view. We also enjoyed chatting with the Innkeepers, and all the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful.

we stayed at this b n b in lexington,va. and could not have asked for more. the place is secluded and on 1000 acres. tim and tamie grue were the hosts and they made us feel like family and they were very open to any conversations you wanted to talk about. the b n b has 10 unique rooms decorated in the log them decor as well as the entire inn. most of the rooms have hot tubs too. all rooms included with the price are a full home cooked breakfast which was very delicious, an afternoon wine and cheese hour, and a 3 course gourmet dinner in the evening. all of the meals were more than we could have ever hoped for. if you want a place to go to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer, this place is above and beyond anything out there. we give it a 5 stars rating.this is a fishing pond on the property as well as areas to hike and enjoy nature. again we want to thank both tim and tamie grue for making our stay exciting, something to remember, and something to look forward to in returning again in the future.

Holly and I have been coming to the House Mountain Inn for more than 15 years. We have so many wonderful memories here of the mountains, the facilities, the Irving family and staff, and of course, our own family experiences during our dozens of visits.
We spent two days and nights here this April as part of our one month road trip around the north east. It was the thing we look forward to most, and we were not disappointed. The 1800 acres are located in the middle of the Appalachians, surrounded by hardwood forest, abundant wildlife, and clean mountain air.
The main building is a magnificent log home, equipped with restaurant, bar area, common spaces, large covered porch, and guestrooms, many of which include private balconies and hot tub’s. There are also other facilities, including venue for weddings, banquets, private parties, horse barn and trails and more. Bookings include Happy hour, a gourmet dinner, and huge country breakfast.
But equally important to the location, natural surroundings, and facilities, are the staff. This is the dream and labor of love, of the Irving family. They and their dedicated team dearly love this place and their guests, and it shows. Everyone is made to feel so welcome and at home, that it is no surprise to us at all that there are many, many guests who come back year after year, just like us. We recommend the House Mountain Inn wholeheartedly, without reservation.

We found the House Mountain Inn while searching the internet and it was a spectacular find. Secluded in a magnificent setting, the inn offers breathtaking views of the mountains and has wonderful hiking trails right on the property. There are comfortable common spaces both inside and out. Our room was very spacious and clean with a gas fireplace and a jacuzzi! The inn has a lovely dining area with views of the mountain and serves a great hot breakfast as one would expect from a b and b. But the best surprise was that our room charge also included a three course delicious dinner and a wine and cheese happy hour. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Many of the other guests told us that they return year after year. We will follow suit!

I hesitate giving House Mountain Inn 5 stars only so we can keep this little piece of heaven to ourselves! We were beyond pleased by the accommodations, the SERVICE, the food, and the beautiful views. We cannot say enough about the wonderful staff which is mostly family - Jamie, Tim, Karie, Austin & Jeanette. By the time we left we felt like good friends. We enjoyed the coziness, comfort and cleanliness of the Inn and the delicious meals served in their dining area. The historic town of Lexington is just a short drive (15-20 min) with a horse drawn carriage ride through town, visit to VMI museum, a visit to the historic Oak Gove cemetery, and a day spent at the 500 million year old Natural Bridge. This three-day trip could not have been more perfect thanks to the House Mountain Inn!

My husband and I stayed one night for a quick getaway. What a gem. It makes me wonder how corporate hotels can charge $185 per night and be so basic with small rooms and hardly any amenities.
The cabin feel of House mountain inn was cozy and open all at once. The room was spacious, clean, had a comfy bed and the soaking jacuzzi tub was exactly what we needed to relax. The secluded location made it peaceful. Every staff member, from the manager to server was beyond helpful, kind and accommodating. Dinner and breakfast were lovely as well. I would absolutely pay to stay there again, and I only live 45 minutes away!

Spent one lovely night here on a road trip from PA to the Asheville area. It's quiet, clean, spacious, well appointed rooms are just what is needed after several hour of driving on Interstate 81. We even made it there early enough to enjoy the wine and cheese offered in the late afternoon. We had dinner there as well and enjoyed the choices we made on the price fixed menu. Breakfast was included and we had varied choices that were delicious and prepared to order. All the staff we met were so friendly and very nice. Looking forward to making this our place to stop when we head south again.

We have been coming to House Mountain Inn since 2007, including several visits as a couple, plus other visits with family and friends, plus a big event here many years ago for my wife’s 50th birthday. Throughout the years, one thing is constant... House Mountain Inn never disappoints. This wonderful mountain resort is a labor of love of the Irvine family, which now includes the third generation helping keep everything in perfection from the expansive mountainside grounds, to the western-themed facilities, and even to the 5 star kitchen and dining room. We feel like family here (that is a goal of the team), and we have thoroughly enjoyed watching the resort and the team grow and mature over the years. This is a very unique property with hiking trails, hardwood forests, mountains and peaceful surroundings throughout. Their 4:00 PM wine and cheese happy hour deepens your sense of relaxation to put you completely in the mood for the wonderful in-house dinner that will follow. After a blissful night’s sleep in the crisp, clean mountain air, you will awake ready for a delicious breakfast and to do it all over again. We deeply respect these folks and highly recommend the House Mountain Inn without reservation.

House Mountain Inn was a new experience for us. It is a small inn with, I think, ten rooms, some with jacuzzies and some with hot tubs. It is located on a mountainside in the middle of a 1,000 acre plus conservancy. The rooms are large and comfortable, but don't have a minifridge. A large common area has tables, microwave, refrigerator, morning coffee, and a few snacks. From 4-5 there is a wine and cheese party where it was fun to meet other couples. A small pond provides the chance to fish, and there are trails to hike. A 2 1/2 mi or so hike (somewhat strenuous) up the mountain trail leads to an observation tower where you can view for miles. It had a table and a couple of rocking chairs, and we enjoyed a box lunch we had ordered. The people were wonderful. Jeanette checked us in, answered questions, familiarized us with the inn's offerings and later served as our waitress at dinner (reservations are requested even for guests). The next day, Carrie was our host and was a bundle of very pleasant enthusiasm. She just brought a smile to our faces and made us feel right at home. Jamie was our waitress for breakfast the last morning and checked us out. She couldn't have been more pleasant. The dinners were excellent. The Mahi Mahi was the second best I've ever had, and the crab cakes were also fantastic. Stuffed mushrooms and scallop appetizers were very good. We chose cheesecake and pecan pie for dessert, but the chocolate torte looked mighty good. Breakfasts were hearty and tasty. A full bar is available. The Inn is quiet and, for some, there may not be enough to do for adventure, but the people are friendly and accommodating, the food is excellent, the wine and cheese party a treat, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Internet reception is very good. Enjoy a book, take a hike, or just relax. Be aware that the Inn is reserved on most weekends for weddings and groups, so check availability in advance.

We have been coming to the House Mountain Inn for a little over 10 years (including part of our honeymoon) and we love every trip. It is just the right amount of privacy and quiet, mixed with friendly interactions and super gracious staff. When we need to recharge, this is where we go. We have visited other similar places, but none compare to this place. Everyone that works here treats you like family and no request is too big or too small. The food is excellent, the service is exceptional, and the accommodations are just right for us. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there is plenty of room to take in all of the peace and quiet the Inn has to offer. The surrounding area is beautiful, with plenty of hiking and restaurants to explore. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how hard Jamie, Carrie, Tim, Jeff, Austin, Dave, Megan, and many others have worked so hard to make this place just as exceptional as it has always been amongst a pandemic. If you need a place to relax, recharge, feel safe, and amongst family and friends....this is it.

House Mountain Inn and Irvine Estate are very close together but if there are 2 weddings (one at each place), one cannot hear or see anything at the other event. You either book one or the other. They are so easy to work with. Highly recommend!!!
I concur. Call or email the inn. They are really great at responding. We found it to be very affordable for an extremely personal and great experience. We have been back since just to visit!
