The spa is great. The rooms and overnight accommodations are average at best. The bathrooms are small and the showers are tiny. The way I judge a hotel quality is by their bedding. Their bedding was horrible! The beds are not luxurious at all. King size beds have worn out extra small pillows. The sheets are rough. You will get better quality at at a 2 or 3 star hotel chain. I used to go there for business trips and off sites and I can attest it was not like this 8-10 years ago. They have declined significantly in quality, however their prices remain high. Kind of like Salamander prices for a lower quality hotel. I was going to stay longer but am glad I cut my stay shorter. With the exception of the spa that I give high remarks, the rooms are not worth the price.
My husband and I stayed here for two nights in May 2021. We would gladly return! CHECK-IN: Check-in was speedy. We arrived around 3:30 on a Wednesday and there was no wait. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were given a room on the 8th floor and the elevators are very fast. ROOM: Our room had a king bed, writing desk with rolling chair, armchair by the window with footrest, drink cart, TV, mini-fridge, safe, and a nice bathroom (with rain shower head). The room was very quiet, and had a nice view. Everything was clean and updated. SPECIAL REQUESTS: On our second night, we asked for a memory foam pillow as the provided pillows were a little soft. The staff was very accommodating. Due to COVID, they had suspended room service, but told us we could request service at any time if we wanted. We asked for towels once and they arrived quickly. We also asked for dental floss, plastic utensils and a pen which they readily provided. SPA and GYM: The spa was very nice. (See separate review.) The gym was fairly large for a hotel. They offer memberships, so you have both guests and local members using the facility. We took a yoga class while there and the instructor was very nice and knowledgeable. The front desk staff at the gym was also very helpful and answered all of our questions. The locker rooms were clean, spacious and had very nice showers with rain shower heads. POOLS: There are three pools in the complex. They are all very clean and lifeguards are present. The first pool is an adult-only pool which was very quiet. There is also a family pool with a separate water slide and a waterfall pool located down a slight incline from the others. While we were there, the waterfall pool was not open. It was a Friday and not many people were present. There were plenty of lounge chairs with umbrellas and side tables. The chairs are in great condition. There is a snack bar located in the pool area. We did not purchase anything, but they will give you water which was nice in the heat! They make frozen cocktails that looked very good. Again, the staff was all very nice. Towels are provided. ACTIVITIES: There is a nice list of daily activities, and the gym area has some outdoor games (corn hole, ladder golf, etc.). There are also basketball, tennis, pickle ball and volleyball courts outdoors. The resort has three golf courses which are well-kept. There is access to the Potomac Heritage Trail from the resort. It’s a challenging walk to get there! There is a VERY steep hill to walk up and back. The trail is very narrow (one person at a time), and covered completely by trees with thick brush on each side. We saw many large salamanders and lots of millipedes. It’s a true nature trail. You can rent bikes for the trail, but you would need to be experienced to have a good time. The trail is dirt and not entirely smooth, and some of the salamanders don’t want to get out of your way. PROS: -Nice assortment of activities each day -Outstanding staff. -Great, quiet rooms. -Large selection of amenities. CONS: -Nothing is in walking distance, so if you don’t want to each at the resort, you do have to drive, but not far.…
The spa was nice, a little expensive but good service. Breakfast should have been free for what you get. It was just a buffet with a limited selection. Also, I found a hair in my coffee. The resort is 30 years old and the last partial remodel was 6 years ago. It is already due for FULL remodel. Front desk and housekeeping staff could use some improvements. Double check your bill, we were charged extra for something that included in or package. The charge was corrected after bringing it to their attention. No clue how the golfing is, we didn't come for that.
We went for the tennis, pickleball, golf and pools. The room furnishings were a bit dated but I slept like a baby all 4 nights!! We were on the 7th floor. Added bonus on July 3 the property has their own 4th of July festivities with barbecue, food trucks, live band and fireworks. Downtown Leesburg is a short drive away with easy parking. The on property golf is expensive ($199 per person) so we played our second golf day at Raspberry Falls Golf Course (public) for $119. We were also able to do a late checkout so we played tennis, hit the pool and showered up before leaving the property.
The general property does need some updating. The staff was friendly and courteous. Rooms are quite nice. Restaurants are adequate although there are very limited vegan options. That was surprising. Overall, we would stay again.
