Everything about this stay was excellent!
We came as a birthday celebration and stayed a couple of nights. A couple of weeks out, staff from the Inn called to pre-arrange our stay and ensure everything was set for meals and our stay.

We chose to stay in a suite and upon arrival, Brian did an EXCELLENT job giving us a tour of the Inn and going over all the amenities and various features of the Inn and the room we stayed in. The pictures of the room don’t do it justice, it’s so much more impressive in-person!

The bed was VERY comfy and perfectly adorned with luxury linens! Curtains in the room were made of beautiful, heavy fabric with nice shades behind them. The room featured an iPad, which could be used to surf the web, as they have free wifi throughout, but it was also playing on their Sonos system when we arrived, so we had awesome jazz playing in our room the entire stay (select the music of your choice!)!

The room was very clean and perfectly decorated! There was a fridge, which was great for the free bottles of water provided by the Inn, as well as Reidel wine glasses, which were great for wine to enjoy in your room. The amenities in the bathroom were very nice! Soap, body wash and shampoo has an amazing scent! Plenty of space in our bathroom, with a separate shower and toilet (water closet) area and tub and sinks, featuring a large clawfoot tub.

Beautiful art through the property as well as our room. Lots of amazing views from the bedroom and various common areas of the Inn, as their grounds are beautiful, as are the mountains which seem to be visible from nearly every window.

The included breakfast was absolutely incredible! Dayn prepares something different and unique everyday, using fresh, tasty ingredients and service during breakfast was friendly and outstanding!

They have a beautiful pool with lounging chairs and umbrellas to enjoy a nice book, a drink poolside or a dip in the pool. Since they have a full bar and an amazing wine list, you can enjoy drinks from either while at the pool or around their grounds. There’s also a nice area out back to spend the evening around a fire pit or even dine at one of their many outside dining tables.

The entire stay was incredible and very nicely priced! We can’t wait to return!

I found this place by accident when I was looking to take my husband away for his birthday and was looking for a cooking class as something different to do. I called and spoke to the chef and everything sounded perfect on the phone, so I booked online the room for 2 nights, cooking class for 2 and dinner 2 nights. From the time we arrived, everything was more than perfect. Dana offered us a glass of champagne and gave us a tour of the property, complete with a history of the inn and previous owners. We checked into the Windsor Suite, which was in a cottage near the main house. The room was spectacular and spacious with a large shower and large bathtub and views of both the horses and the chickens. Dinner both nights was amazing with unique flavors. Dinner is served at 7 and has 5 courses. You will not go hungry but also are not overly full (which is absolutely perfect). (they will accommodate food allergies and dietary preferences, as long as you let them know when you book). My husband and I also participated in the private cooking class where we learned not only how to make Agnolotti, but learned a bit about the business as well. Everyone at the Inn was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they knew who was who. There are also nice common areas to sit by the fireplace and a library full of books. Wifi throughout the property. I should also mention breakfast is included for overnight guests and it did not disappoint. Other highlights included feeding the horses and watching the chickens. Overall, this was an extremely relaxing weekend with amazing food and the chance to learn some cooking techniques from a CIA trained chef with over 40 years of experience to share. An outdoor fire pit would be a nice addition for the colder months, but the grounds were simply gorgeous. Looking forward to going back and highly recommend!!

My wife and I and first cousins celebrated birthdays/anniversaries at this bucolic inn. I hesitate to say bed and breakfast, as that would demean it, as it's much more. With only 11 rooms, the staff pampers you. An excellent multi-course fixed dinner with excellent breakfast is included in the price. There are many packages on the website with photos of each room. There is an iPad in each room to run the sound system with speakers in the ceiling. For a reasonable price you can have five wine pairings with dinner. All were excellent choices. The meal was exquisite. Included in our package were two tickets to a wine tasting to Rappahannock Cellars, just 1/4 mile away. It was so good, we joined their "club." The stay was one night and a bit pricey, but we were pampered and fed very well. I believe it was a very good deal.
It's also great for small business retreats, one of which took place the next day. The rooms are very eloquently furnished, and the staff share the history of the manor, which is unique.

Not sure what experience most of the folks that are writing these reviews have had staying at luxury hotels and inns but their over enthusiasm for Glen Gordon Manor suggests not enough.

1) While the inn has a picturesque setting in the rolling Virginia countryside it is not uniquely special for the area. There are other places with much more breathtaking views of the mountains and/or valleys of the area.

2) The inn itself consists of a main historic (as in old, no known historical significance or designation) manor with modern out buildings scattered across the property. The rooms in the main building could use updating/renovating as their remodeling appears to date from the late 1970s or early 1980's. Some furnishings are worn, frayed, and/or stained. (Such as torn carpet in the restaurant, peeling paint in our suite's bathroom). Not at all acceptable for a property seeking luxury status.

3) The plumbing in the main manor house is significantly below minimum standards even for a basic chain hotel. Water pressure in the shower is weak, and there is inadequate (actually minimal) hot water. Also, the water temperature is highly variable, running from hot to cold and everything in between. Makes for a quick uncomfortable shower!

4) The staff, while extremely pleasant, are poorly trained. We found the staff (except for the owner/chef) to be unknowledgeable about the nearby resources and activities and not very knowledgeable about even the inn's own restaurant offerings or ability to make substitutions for its small 6 table fixed-menu on-site restaurant called Houndstooth). Also, the staff was at a skeletonal level - no one was present to greet us upon arrival, (although we were finally able to find someone (the owner/chef) in the kitchen to check us in). Same thing (no one around but in the kitchen) happened at checkout.

5) Because no one is around at checkout, you are instructed to leave the keys in your door. What we weren't told was that our invoice, containing personally identifiable confidential information, would be available for pick up along with other guests' invoices on a table in the center of the Inn's front vestibule.

6) Attention to details were spotty. They were better with respect to the food and kitchen related things, but not so good with respect to the attention, care and maintenance of the suites. For instance, no drinking water was provided in the rooms; and even drinking glasses were hard to come by.

7) The main manor house is not sound proofed. You can completely hear discussions going on in other suites and in the corridors.

8) There are no individual thermostats in the suites in the main manor house so you are unable to adjust the room temperature to your personal preference. Our suite was "cooked" to about 84 degrees fahrenheit.

If this sounds like luxury accommodations to you then you should find yourself pleased, (as other reviewers have been), with Glen Gordon Manor. But if not, then you will want to look elsewhere.

We apologize that your experience was not all that you had hoped for. As you noted, we have hosted a multitude of savvy travelers, including foreign diplomats and celebrities, who have written glowing reviews on our luxurious accommodations, world-class food and warm hospitality. While we understand the property’s history as a Wells Fargo Stagecoach Stop and a romantic rendezvous for the famous, if not scandalous, romance between Edward and Wallis may not make us the most notable for history, it has been of interest to many of our guests. Our rooms are uniquely decorated, but if you’re looking for a more modernly styled accommodation, we suggest staying in the Fyvie, Kenmure or Gordon Suites. We are reviewing all your comments with our staff and will address them as warranted. We hope you will return so that we can amend this experience and invite you to join us for dinner at our highly acclaimed restaurant Houndstooth! We feel this is a fundamental part of the experience which you declined during your first visit.

This is a wonderful place to stay and to dine. The hosts are wonderful and onsite as the chef is one of the couple and his wife is there as well. The staff are incredibly attentive and both hosts are delightful to talk with. The dinners are prix fixe and pricey but worth every penny! The portions are the right size, enough to taste but not so much that you are stuffed after the meal. Each course is beautiful in its presentation and uniquely wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the Parmesan Soup which was probably my most favorite dish of the two meals which we had there and, alone, is worth the trip and the expense since it is such a unique dish. The lodge itself is wonderful, cozy but not small, with a fireplace that is burning wood in the afternoon and evening as long as there are guests sitting in the common area. The lodge is an old hunting lodge which has been converted to a larger building with 5 bedrooms. It retains its hunting lodge ambience and is on large acreage in the Shenandoah Valley, so there is scenery galore. There are chickens in the back yard and horses in the stable although they are now too old to ride but are happy to eat a carrot or two when you visit them. I cannot recommend this destination enough and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Stayed at this hotel with my husband recently and absolutely loved our time here. This place is perfect for couples and adults, don't think it would the best for little kids. It was our first time in this area, which seems pretty upscale and full of wineries. You can easily drive into Shenandoah National Park from here. We had stayed there just before, so went for a little walk on the Appalachian Trail portion that runs across the road just a few miles north of the inn.

This is one of those luxury B&Bs that has all sorts of awesome little details. The refreshing pool is perfectly positioned with a beautiful mountain view. They bring you coffee/tea every morning to your room in case you don't want to get out of bed for breakfast. I don't even drink coffee anymore but just the idea of it was such a lovely touch. The included breakfast was multiple courses and extremely delicious. Next time I would eat dinner at the hotel as well. The restaurant we ate at down the road, The Blue Door, was very expensive and not very good (though don't miss the burgers and custard at Spelunkers in Front Royal).

We stayed in the Huntly Suite, which is in a separate building up a small hill from the main house. It was very big and every aspect of the room was extremely comfortable. Loved the private outdoor seating as well. Would absolutely stay here again.

We had an amazing time staying in the Windsor Suite for our second time in 2019! We have now stayed at Glen Gordon to celebrate a birthday, anniversary and New Years. We look forward to coming back again someday.

We love walking the grounds, seeing the chickens, horses - the rescued wild stallion, and mini pony....that we could see from our room's window. We also enjoyed bringing a bottle of wine to drink in the main house by the cozy fireplace.

The Windsor Suite has got to be the best suite - it is our favorite room of ALL the B&B's we have stayed at!

The breakfast was delicious, as always. One day we will stay for the gourmet dinner and wine pairing. This is definitely one of the best kept secret's and only an hour from DC!

My husband and I needed a quiet getaway and stayed at Glen Gordon Manor for the first time (over Monday and Tuesday night). We loved everything about the experience, and it was exactly what we needed. We stayed in the Edward suite and loved it. Spacious, charming and tastefully decorated with antiques and a gorgeous updated bathroom. We chose to have the Chef's dinner with wine pairings the second night and it was an exceptional meal. Every course was creative and flavorful, and every wine was a perfect match. We enjoyed breakfast in the room with the paper flower ceiling, while the gorgeous chickens outside put on a show. The staff were lovely- each person we spoke with was friendly and most accommodating. The Manor house is beautiful and I enjoyed the many gorgeous paintings peppered throughout - especially the hunting dog murals in the sitting room. Hope to return again soon.

We had high expectations for this quaint bed and breakfast. We stayed during a full weekend in February. All rooms and dinner tables were booked. We were promptly greeted and shown to our room in the main house. The room was small, but with an elegant shower. The walls were paper thin and every conversation in the main lobby and hallway could be easily heard. The ground were nice, staff friendly, and fireplace warm. A little road maintenance is needed on entry road, but it has been raining quite a bit recently which destroys gravel roads.

Dinner had the makings of being very nice, except they allowed an obnoxious group nearby with three children who ruined the romantic setting. The constant up and down and noise were unacceptable in a restaurant like this. If they want to perform at the level they are trying to be at they either need to be adults only or have a separate room or area for families with children. Four couples had their elegant dinner ruined and no one was thrilled (or comped anything). Worse, it was the second night that family dined at this restaurant, so certainly others had their meals imposed upon the night before. The staff certainly could have learned from the night before and corrected the issue, but that did not happen. I guess ten paying dinner servings trumps two. The food was good, not over the top great, but they can certainly get there with a few tweaks.

The loud conversations in the hallway and lobby after dinner made our room really disturbed due to the paper thin walls. The wine pairings with dinner of other guests made the conversations loud and obnoxious. They need to figure out a way to correct this issue, as we were certainly not the first to notice or first to be disturbed.

Some work remains to be done, especially at $600 for one night with dinner (without wine) and breakfast for two.

We sincerely apologize that we did not meet and exceed your expectations for a romantic getaway. We were surprised at your comments about our other guests, particularly the family in question. They are repeat guests and we have frequently had unsolicited comments about the children’s excellent behavior and quiet demeanor. Our attentive staff monitor the dining room ambiance carefully and did not perceive any disruptions. We have reviewed your other comments with our staff and did find that the door to your room was not sealing completely, and that has been addressed to prevent further noise issues. For couples looking for a more secluded space, we also offer several luxury suites that are separate from the main building. Being in a rural country setting, our gravel roads do take some damage over the winter, and maintenance work is performed each spring when the weather is dry enough. We hope you will consider returning in the future so that we may provide you with the world-class hospitality and dining that Glen Gordon Manor is known for.

My husband and I had the most wonderful experience to Glen Gordon at the end of December. The property is stunning and chef and owner, Dayn, makes the property available to all guests. We watched the chickens, met the horses, and even got a full tour of the property from Dayn himself -- even getting a peek into the beautifully renovated kitchen. We had dinner at the restaurant on property. What an experience! Every course was carefully and perfectly prepared. The ambiance was so lovely too. Classical Christmas music was on the speakers and we were surrounded by candles and the most beautiful art collection. We ended our evening sipping on champagne in front of the fire. After such a wonderful evening, we couldn't believe a three course breakfast was included with the stay. It was equally delicious as the dinner.

Thank you, Chef Dayn, for a perfect stay. Glen Gordon offered us total relaxation in the most beautiful setting. We can't wait to return.

There are two beer brewers with brew pubs, and a distillery in Sperryville, a very good art gallery, Andrew Haley, in Sperryville and two decent ones in Little Washington. Of course the wineries - Linden is the best and its close. Depending on the weather, there's Shenandoah Park for hiking.
