We booked based on the number of 5 star reviews. When we got there , the first thing we see is a cinder block wall. We look toward the b&b. No lights. The place looks like a rundown dump. I didn’t feel safe staying there despite having a concealed carry permit and pistol. I call. They tell me they don’t have a reservation and so I can leave. Then they charge me anyway. Like I said, Shady.

Response from Gail O, Owner at Shady Acres Bed and Breakfast
Responded Dec 25, 2019
Dear Sir, All our reservations are made on-line via various lodging sites. All these sites use similar formats to do this. You make your reservation and payment. In turn, we receive an e-mail advising us that a reservation has been made for our B&B. Those e-mails are generated from the source in which you make your reservation. How did it then become our fault that we did not receive notice of your reservation??? Perhaps your remarks should be directed toward who generated the reservation, instead of at us. For reasons unknown, we didn’t receive notice of your reservation prior to your arrival on December 13, 2019 as we normally would. We also did not receive a phone call to let us know you would be arriving outside the check-in hours, and as you know…you did not contact your booking source to advise them either. You arrived 3 hours past our check-in hours of 4:30 to 8:00 0’clock PM. Our check-in and Check-out hours along with our policies are posted on all the reservation sites we are part of. We are a small bed and breakfast and have always extended the courtesy to wait for the arrival of our guests when our guests extend the courtesy to let us know they are arriving later than expected. We have even waited for some guests until 1:00 AM for their arrival. I feel you, and anyone else, should understand that when an unexpected vehicle drives into your yard at 11:00 at night, that you approach the situation with caution. Unfortunately, these days, you can’t just assume they are there with good intentions. The only time you called us is when you were sitting in our driveway after my husband turned the front porch lights on for you. I never said we would not take you for the night… I told you we did not have a reservation for you. Before I had the opportunity to offer to accommodate you anyway, you stated “that’s ok, l’ve decided I don’t want to stay here anyway”. It was your choice not to stay. On all the websites that list our bed and breakfast, it is noted that we do not offer refunds. Furthermore, it is even stated by the sites themselves that no changes are allowed on same day reservations. In addition, you made payment to the reservation site. It seems you should have expected you would be charged. I suggest, in the future you read the policies of the establishment you are considering before you commit. Lastly, I can’t understand how you could mistake a 3-car cinderblock garage with oversize overhead doors for a bed and breakfast! Especially since we have 7, (yes 7), motion-sensored lights surrounding the circular driveway plus a 4 foot Christmas wreath with multi-colored lights and 2 porch lights, all turned on !!! If someone can’t determine the difference between a garage and a house with all this, then only God, or maybe an optometrist, can help and bad mouthing our bed and breakfast isn’t the answer to your problems. Bless your heart and have a good day.

We were going to the play at the Hanover Tavern and wanted a B&B for the overnight stay. Though a little bit of a drive on very "country" roads (read, narrow & dark), it was a lovely place to stay with a yummy breakfast!!!! Special surprise was a "Sleep Number Calif. King" bed! There are two dogs on site, but are well controlled. Love the "herd" of chickens!

My husband and I had a great experience with Gail and would happily recommend her to other couples seeking a wedding officiant. Gail is prompt, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. The phone consultation alone was invaluable. She guided us through the entire process from how to obtain the license to designing our ceremony, and worked with us to ensure our special day included all of the elements that were important to us. The ceremony Gail wrote for us was simple and sweet and exactly what we were looking for.

Gail and Ralph were great. The place was beautiful. They went above and beyond even checking my tire to make sure it was safe to drive on. They were friendly and the chickens were fun to watch. It was an awesome visit and I cant wait to go back.

Gail was excellent! We really enjoyed having her as our officiant on our wedding day. Funny enough, Gail was the officiant for our close friends. Upon meeting her and hearing more about her, we immediately knew we wanted to contact her. She was very easy to work with - she made sure to take the time to get to know more about me and my husband. Gail was very accommodating and worked with us to include readings and information we wanted while adding her own special touch to it. She was punctual, organized, and an absolute pleasure to work with. She flawlessly incorporated readings we had requested with readings for both the more secular and more spiritual of our guests. Gail taught us so much along the way of what we should expect during our ceremony and wedding. She was very informative and so easy to communicate with! Thank you so much, Gail! Highly recommended!
