Magnolia Inn is a true gem. Tucked away in Hampton, VA is a picturesque inn and wedding chapel that was the perfect escape as COVID restrictions were lifted. Mr and Mrs Blair clearly put a lot of thought into making guests feel welcome and relaxed. Every detail was considered. From the first bite of our delicious breakfast meals to the warm towels at the end of the meal, we were completely satisfied! The extra cookies were surprising and truly appreciated.

Also, to accomodate for social distancing, we were the only guests at the inn for most of our stay. Cleaning supplies were readily available and we remained masked in common spaces. There are some attractions nearby but due to lockdown restrictions, we did not visit many places which fit us perfectly. The local beach at Fort Monroe was deserted enough to accomodate a relaxing walk and to enjoy the balmy air. Our goal is to return soon! Call and book a stay, you won't regret it.

The owners (husband & wife team) are an awesome couple and their number one priority is to ensure that you have an exceptional stay while you are there! Even though the State has relaxed COVID restrictions, they continue to practice physical distancing and mask wearing. The common areas and the rooms are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, yet you are still able to relax and unwind comfortably. The daily breakfasts are a feast and everything is made from scratch, and they can accommodate your dietary restrictions. Their historical knowledge of the area and their recommendations for dining, shopping, tours and off the beaten path spots are top notch. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful wrap-around front porch great for napping or reading. Conveniently located to everything without being in the middle of everything.

This was our first trip to the Magnolia Inn, but it definitely will not be our last. From the time we were greeted upon our arrival, until we left the Inn two days later, we were treated like royalty. While the facility is beautiful and full of history, the hospitality, warmth, and kindness of the Innkeepers was exceptional. It's very evident that Mr. & Mrs. Blair take great pride in providing guests with safe and pleasurable surroundings. Additionally, the food was just exquisite, including a surprise drink of Sorrel.
We're looking forward to our next trip to the Magnolia Inn.

Our experience was HORRIBLE. We were scheduled to arrive at 1130 with a ceremony start of 1200. They said the bride could arrive at 1100. They made her wait outside until 1130. The bride’s room where she gets ready is just a bathroom and the only seat is a toilet. They were unprepared to give instructions to the wedding party and waited Until the ceremony start time to arrange the wedding party. Once we were seated in the ceremony room, which was after the scheduled start time we waited an additional 15 minutes while they cycled through several songs that were not on the brides list of songs. They were not prepared for the requested songs. During the ceremony they moved the dressing partition next to the sand mixing which greatly distracted from the bride and groom. The “professional” flyers we revived were made from their office printer the night before or the day of because they did not ask for the names until the night before. They were card stock paper with ribbon from Michaels wrapped around the crease. The paper was folded in half. We were there for one and a half hours and it cost $800 and all we got was some paper flyers, a sand glass container, a certificate, and constant reminders about masks. Do NOT recommend at all.

Our concern is that this lovely, young couple had such negativity surrounding them on their Wedding Day. The comments above are coming from the father of the groom. He had no communication with The Wedding Chapel before the day of Ceremony. This attempt to discredit our business on multiple review platforms is in very poor taste, as no information was requested or comments made on the day of this family wedding. The point has been made that there is no respect for The Wedding Chapel managers, staff, Ceremony arrangements, details provided in writing on Confirmation, amenities and most of all there was not respect for the Bride & Groom and the choices they clearly made for their wedding day. We were not allowed to do our jobs in hosting this wedding. In 15 years of hosting weddings, it is not customary for the Father of the Groom to take charge of the Ceremony activities (without speaking with the staff) or being in the Bride's dressing room for any reason. The powder room for the bride does have seating and is not spaced for more than 2 helpers to assist with dressing. It was quite unusual to see the father of the groom interested in what is happening in the Bride's dressing room. We are not responsible for information not shared with family members. Our policies with arrival time are on the Confirmation and at time of reservation, the Bride was encouraged to make an appointment to tour the property before the Wedding Day. She was welcome to bring family to ask questions and get information. Obviously, information regarding our Face Mask requirement, time of arrival, etc. was not shared with the family. (This was a complaint in reviews before revision). Information for the programs is taken and sent to print at the last minute to avoid any changes in Wedding Party after they have been printed. The 'paper flyers' you took home were professionally printed Wedding Programs. This reviewer is very presumptuous as to our business practices. As for our Face Mask requirement, it is stated clearly on our Website and Reservation Confirmation "MASKS MUST BE WORN BY ALL ATTENDEES". Although not mentioned, above, this was a major complaint by this reviewer before advised to edit review by TripAdvisor. As a Courtesy, the Bride & Groom do not wear Masks during the Ceremony as they have an investment in their Photography. It was such a lovely day, many of the family portraits could have been done on the Historic Porch and lawn of the Magnolia House. This should not have been a negative issue. We have coordinated and performed 280 Marriage Ceremonies to date since the onset of COVID-19, without complaint. We will never apologize for keeping our guests safe and healthy, as responsible business owners. We care about the one and only Wedding Day of our couples and their families. It seems miscommunication and misunderstanding triggered these negative perceptions. Things did not go as smooth as we would have liked, for reasons beyond our control. We are so sorry for the Bride & Groom that their Wedding Day was disrupted unfairly.

Magnolia House Inn: I'm not sure where to start...
Innkeepers are gracious and unobtrusive, meaning let's face it the bed and breakfast concept can take a little getting used to particularly if your boyfriend/husband is an alpha male like mine. They feel like they are staying in someone's house and therefore prefer hotels. I think the only reason I could convince mine was that it was my birthday and therefore a present to myself. So let me dispel that notion right now. Not sure how they do it, but literally they just appear when you need them and are somewhere in the background otherwise. You quickly feel at home, not sure if it's the background music softly playing as you enter and leave your day to day world behind as in it melts away literally. Maybe it's the room, ours was the Ellington Suite, felt like I was in my own world, any amenity you needed, just ask. They either think of everything or someone gets it quickly as if it was there all along. Came back from dinner out late one evening, there were snacks in the pantry, birthday treats, tea/coffee and a card for little ol' me. How thoughtful was that, didn't even get a card from my guy, but I digress. The decor is vintage and antique, tasteful provoking curiosity and quiet reflection. Breakfast is so neat(birthday mug a nice touch), meeting folks from various states, chatting, immediate camaraderie. One of the mornings Joyce (Innkeeper) could see my guy had partied a smidge too much the night before and offered to make him a separate breakfast as the gourmet one had him struggling a bit. Their recommendations for dining and nightlife were spot on. I can't say enough as you can probably tell. And I'm a tough critic. That being said I believe it's 3 visits to get a small plaque with your name on their wall...only 2 more to go! Good folk considering this intimate B&B, see for yourself. Saluting you Lankford & Joyce!

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at the Magnolia House Inn. The house has been beautifully restored and the decorations completed its charm to perfection. The owners were so welcoming and accommodating, the love they have for the house shines through with everything they do. Our homemade breakfast each morning was so delicious and better than you would get at a restaurant. I have to have gluten free foods and they surprised me with homemade gluten free french toast topped with baked cinnamon apples, it was such a wonderful treat! We met a couple there who had gotten married the day before at the Inn and they were so pleased with their experience and marveled at the delicious wedding cake the owners made for them. I have been to many Bed and Breakfasts and must say that this one is my favorite. We highly recommend the Magnolia House Inn and look forward to a future visit. 5 stars all around !!!

we've stayed here several times, often making it a mid-way stopping point between our travels from the South Carolina Low Country to our home in Pennsylvania.

This is a gorgeous Victorian home. We've stayed in the Ellington Suite and the Haven which has a four-poster bed.

We enjoyed a southern-style breakfast in the formal dining room.

The nicest experiences included sitting on the large front porch and an evening where my husband and the innkeeper, Lankford enjoyed a glass of Malbec and listened to the extensive jazz collection.

Joyce, co innkeeper,is very personable and showed me pictures of the couples who have gotten married in the Inn's wedding chapel.
Very lovely experience.

There is no more elegant, thoughtful, or comfortable stay in Hampton, VA, period. This b&b is located in a southern home of Victorian architecture. With 3 guest bedrooms, the accommodations are Top of the Line. Every consideration had been arranged. The owners and Inn Keepers, Mr & Ms Blair, hold numerous certifications in the Inn Keeper and Hospitality Industry, showed us every consideration and kindness. Conveniently located in the downtown area. We highly recommend.

We booked this as a last minute addition to a trip with the intention of choosing a chain hotel for a quick in-and-out stay to break up a long day of driving. On a lark, based on reviews, we decided to give Magnolia House a try. It was a little more expensive than we intended, but it turned into a wonderful experience we will not soon forget.

The house is a beautiful throwback to Victorian inns of a bygone era with just enough modern amenities to make the stay comfortable. There was a smart TV and a small fridge in the room, the wi-fi was flawless, and the bathroom was definitely contemporary. But we could almost forget them when we perused the antiques and décor that made us feel like we were staying at our favorite grandmother's home. The common rooms are similarly adorned and inviting.

The freshly made breakfast did nothing to dispel the delightful ambience, but the apex of our visit was the interaction with our hosts, Joyce and Lankford, who truly made us feel like visiting family. As mentioned, we had intended on getting on the road early in the morning, but instead found ourselves lounging on the magnificent porch and conversing with Joyce until well after noon. And Lankford was no less congenial while checking in. We have had some very amiable innkeepers over the years, but this couple was certainly among the easiest and most interesting to engage with.

We will certainly be looking forward to another much longer stay at the Magnolia.

Taking my daughter back to her "Home by the Sea" can come with a myriad of emotions. But this year, I found a wonderful place that nurtured me while I supported her. The Magnolia House Inn was a wonderful experience. Joyce and Lankford are the ultimate hosts and they did not hold back on making my family feel special and welcomed. The home takes you back in time and gives a sense that "home is where the heart is". I was most impressed with how clean and pristine everything was in my room. I stayed in the writer's retreat and it actually inspired me to start writing on a book. The entire weekend felt like I was with extended family. Joyce provided us with wonderful recommendations for dinner. But the big surprise was coming back at night to my delicious gluten free cookies and hot tea. Thanks for a wonderful and nurturing experience!
