We enjoyed our stay. The hotel had a very reassuring approach to covid security and has lots of indoor and outdoor space for distancing. Our room was comfortable and clean, but a tad noisy until evening when the hotel extractor fans went off. The staff were welcoming and friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is also very dog friendly and we liked that. The menu is restricted but the food is very good. Breakfasts were lovely too. Wine is expensive though. We would happily stay again, but being in our late sixties we would ask for a proper shower next time. The very deep free standing slipper bath with shower attachment was a challenge we’d choose not to face again. The hotel is really well located for trips out and the countryside stunning.

Stayed overnight for my husband's birthday with our 18 month old. Room was lovely, very clean and travel cot provided free of charge. Had dinner there Sunday evening, roast beef was beautiful and children's portion was huge. Sat and enjoyed drinks on the terrace in the evening, they have lovely outdoor space and it's so peaceful. Great breakfast this morning, staff could not have been more helpful regarding our toddler, we really felt welcomed. Our first time staying away since the covid situation and all handled really well but not affecting our stay. Fantastic staff, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or return.

We booked here as part of an overnight stay, the location it’s very pretty and of an evening quiet however by the morning the road is pretty busy / noisy we were woken up about 7am. Back to our arrival, when we arrived we were greeted at the bar by a young lady, we advised of our booking and she didn’t really acknowledge but headed to get a key.... my partner looked at me in between worried I hadn’t booked it! She returned to the bar with the key (which reassured we had a booking) to then advise that the evenings kitchen was being closed early due to the extractor fans being cleaned (wish we had known prior). The location is at least 10 minutes drive to the nearest pub for food. This was our first disappointment, we were advised if we wished to eat that evening it would have to be ordered by 6pm.. bit of an issue when we arrived @ 5:30pm.... We arrived in our room, it was clean and pretty however on closure inspection there were marks on the wallpaper & scratches on the floor a bit shabby all in all. But I would say I would stay again in the same room.... The bed was comfortable and linen clean. In the end we ordered food to the room so not a massive issue... The next morning we head down for breakfast, we were greeted by busy staff but they were happy for us to sit outside on request. The service was prompt however the breakfast (an extra £30 on our booking) was underwhelming to say the least, there were only 4 items on the breakfast menu so we asked if we could have a vegetarian version of the “Full Monty” what arrived was a veggie sausage, beans, a mushroom, egg & a tomato. It was all very sparse on the plate, no toast, the breakfast really let them down (an addition to the cleaning of the fans we weren’t away of the night before)... The room itself was lovely so I’d recommend that room itself although the pub & beers not so much so if your staying for room only & planning on heading afar fo for it!

We had very much looked forward to our stay with you on the 31st July for 2 nights as we had previously stayed in 2014 and were totally wowed by The White Horse, so had high expectations. We had originally booked as we were meant to be going to Goodwood Races, which unfortunately got cancelled. Many of our Party couldn’t warrant the hefty room rate, but after raving about it 2 other couples decided to stay too, in the meantime our friend fell pregnant so with the whole Covid situation decided that she would prefer a refund. My husband also tried to cancel the 3 rooms we had booked, without success and numerous phones calls. In the end we were offered a stay at half the room rate price rather than a refund, we agreed to this for 2 of the rooms, but wanted a refund for our friend who is pregnant, but this never happened. My husband and I arrived much earlier than our check-in time and was greeted and told we could access our room to drop our bags, but the cleaning might not have been completed yet, we said was not a problem as we were going to go out anyway. On first impression the room looked okay, although I didn’t expect to have to remove cobwebs before I got into Bed that evening and was shocked by the visible cobwebs on the windows in the bedroom and bathroom, plus also on the set of drawers (Photo 1). Clearly the floor had been cleaned and the bed linen was clean, we all felt a bit nervous about staying in a Hotel with the Covid situation, but after our last stay didn’t think there would be any problem, don’t get me wrong we are talking cobwebs, but it did make you think have the rooms been cleaned properly. The cleaning ladies all seemed lovely and perhaps you are short-staffed throughout the Hotel, which seemed quite evident at times. I was surprised there were no cushions on the lovely outdoor rattan dining furniture, which made them not as comfortable, I thought this was down to Covid safety, but everywhere else we visited throughout the weekend all had their garden furniture cushions out. I also felt it was a shame the residents gardens were not set-up to cater for all residents occupying the rooms with the rattan furniture. I didn’t realise our room would not be made up the next morning (because of Covid) and supplies like toilet rolls and coffee and water not replenished (surely these should have been dropped into the room). I hadn’t expected to make up my own bed on a weekend away, my friend has just returned from a break away and her room was made up each morning. Luckily we enjoyed the evening meal on the Friday and both mornings breakfasts, all the staff were lovely and helpful, but felt that time could have been saved by putting enough sugar / salt & pepper on the tables and having to ask for lemon to go with the smoked salmon again made hard work of things for the staff. We did wrack up a big bill on the Friday evening with drinks etc, which is fine that’s what weekends away are for, but when we came to paying for the bill you obviously weren’t aware Alex that you had over £800 of our money, which we obviously wanted our meal deducted from this. We were disappointed to see a sign on the bar the next day offering 20% discount for Blue card holders which we have, we did mention this, but were not offered any refund. My brother-in-law was going to contact you seperately with regards to the leak they had in their room on their bed on the evening of the 1st August, luckily for them you were still around Alex to offer them another room. I wanted to write to you first and not put a bad review on Tripadvisor (but have received no response) The White Horse was definitely 5 star on our last visit and sadly didn’t come near this time, a little TLC in the rooms I feel is needed and toilet seats replaced and a lick of paint would be good. Was a shame to see the quirky Van parked in the garden looking so shabby as last time it was such a great feature. I hope The White Horse improves again as this is the ideal choice and beautiful location to stay when visiting the area and attending the races.

Our first get away since lockdown and a bit of birthday celebration. Found the manager a bit over the top with regards to social distancing. Our meal was wonderful and service was good however the bath leaked and flooded the bathroom in the morning. A very young waitress was sent to the room to deal with it and did her best to clean up. We were offered a room that someone else had used the night before to shower in. We declined as they only cleaned the bathroom and we were not comfortable using a room that had not been cleaned properly according to government guidelines. I have emailed my concerns and feelings that no apology or contact from a manager regarding us not actually getting what we paid for. To date only had an email back to say that Management will get in touch but have heard nothing. I feel at least an apology would have been nice. Definitely won't be going there again.
