Booked this last minute as I was away with work and needed somewhere to stay for the evening. The room was beautiful and clean, the bed is just about the comfiest I have ever slept in and it was all so peaceful and quiet. The pub attached is a traditional and welcoming place and the breakfast is to die for!!! I was gutted I had to leave the day after but will certainly be back. The service from Kat was amazing and I simply can not fault this place. Outstanding!!

Stayed here for the first time. As I have been travelling for some 42 years, I can honestly say this place ticks all the boxes. Rooms very nice, food very good and staff ( Cat and Tiva) very nice too. Will be back!

We had a lovely 2 night stay with our 2 dogs last weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful to us especially Kat, Megan and Megan’s mum!…. The breakfast was fab especially for vegetarians and we have absolutely no complaints. The only comment we would have as someone with an eye to detail … more hooks and practicality in the rooms… we struggled to reach the soap dispensers from the bath and not moveable , a few more hooks for raincoats and dog leads ! But minor things, and we really enjoyed the food and stay and staff . Great outdoor space for dogs and am sure it’s even more amazing in the summer and we would visit again 😘

Do not book your wedding here!!!! We paid our deposit to secure ourdate. We sat down and had a meeting with a member of the team and the chef about our requirements for the day, we were told would come up with our menu and our wine pairing... this was December last year our wedding was meant to be February 2024 and we have heard nothing despite numerous attempts to contact them to be told someone would call us back... they never did. Today I was told that a refund has been issued... not before a rude member of staff said well it is what it is!!! I wish you luck with your wedding and hung up on me!!! This place was a favourite of ours for many years. In my opinion it's gone down hill and we will not be returning.

A truly marvellous, multi-gen, family lunch. Delicious food, friendly staff and the very loveliest setting. Our doggos are always made very welcome. If you are a big group, ask for the ‘big table’ in the end room or to have ‘the snug’ made up for you. Very special. Xx

Stayed here whilst working away and had a brilliant experience. All the staff are so welcoming and really lovely. Really nice pub, delicious food in the restaurant for dinner and for breakfast and the rooms were wonderful. Very clean, very nicely laid out. Great biscuits and cafetière coffee in the room. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone in the area.

What was once my favourite pub in the Chichester area is no more. The take over by Butcombe Brewery has changed what was exceptional into merely average. The menu has been reduced massively and is hardly inspiring, steak, fish & chips, chicken or a beef burger with a singe Vegan alternative and another fish course. The wine list that used to feature a large range of good wines is now reduced to an expensive average selection. The staff are pleasant, but the extra touch of magic that this pub had has disappeared. Worse still, I understand that the same Brewer has also taken over another excellent address in the area, The Royal Oak which has largely the same menu, how original! I won't be back any time soon.

When we arrived we noticed the bar area had lots of flies buzzing around ? We asked why so many flies to be told it’s the time of year and they attracted to the electrics lol ! The room was great with its own private garden . We had booked a table for evening dinner , the food was below average at best . I asked for my fish to be lightly battered . My wife ordered the chicken . My fish n chips came battered to death and the chicken was very dry . Again lots of flies buzzing around . The next day the shower in the room only gave cold at best look warm water and running the shower for over 5 mins . All the toiletries on offer were labelled .. please don’t take me ! Lol . We arrived for breakfast and had our took . At this point we were surprised to see even more flies on the tables cutlery and other guests . We decided not to stay for breakfast and left before the food was served . We again expressed our dismay at all the flies to be told again it’s the weather , time of year etc etc . We were not offered any sort of refund for breakfast . We drove ten minutes away to the local town where we had breakfast fly free!! I’ve contacted the hotel via email with no response

Came in after a walk around late morning, revived a cold welcome. Staff member who served us was incredibly slow considering we were the only people in the pub. No communication skills, no please or thank you!

Good evening Rosie, it is disappointing to hear that you feel you received poor service at The White Horse, it is something that we continually strive to deliver so hearing that you felt that we fell short on this occasion is a cause for concern. Please could you email me on manager.whitehorsechilgrove@butcombepubs.com. Thank you, Sarah

We stayed for two nights, and had very mixed feelings about this hotel. Things I liked: Friendly staff Nice rustic feel Lovely views and outdoor space Things I didn’t like: We had to move rooms, and ended up seeing 3 of the rooms on offer. Two of these did not have a shower, only a bath. We found this really odd, and very inconvenient. It did not say when booking that you might not get a shower. Sheepskin rugs: just horrible. If you care about animal rights you are better off elsewhere, there were also paintings of men on horses in red coats (suggesting they’re off to fox hunt) on the walls in at least one of the rooms. Food: had breakfast only and it was nice. Chose not to have evening meals because there isn’t much vegetarian or vegan choice. If you’re vegan, I would definitely avoid for the multiple reasons above.

Good evening, We take on board your feelings on the rooms, not everyone likes a bath but some do! Hence why we have baths (with hand held showers) and showers available, it does state on our website that both our classic and feature rooms provide a bath or shower and often guests will contact us regarding which option they would like. In regards too our sheepskin rugs & pictures in rooms we are a countryside pub and this is very in keeping with the style of the pub & lifestyle's around us, we are more than happy to remove sheepskins for people that do not like them and would have been happy to do this on the day for yourselves. We always try to have an array of different vegetarian and vegan options on our menu but will happily feedback to the kitchen team that you felt that there was not enough. If you wish to discuss this any further please contact me on manager.whitehorsechilgrove@butcombepubs.com Many thanks, Sarah
