Detailed Reviews
Stayed at hotel for two night in February for visit to Longwood University. We were in the newer Cumberland wing, second floor. The room was large, the bathroom is large with an oversize shower, plenty of storage/handing space and a small microwave, coffee maker and fridge. The beds were comfortable and the linens of good quality. - we slept well. The room and public spaces were clean.
As with most hotels, room cleaning during your stay no longer exists. I was able to easily get additional coffee pods and towels, but it would have been nice to be able to leave a hang tag on the door to request these items. Also, there was no breakfast (a table in the lobby with coffee, pre-packaged pastries, fruit and granola bars only). The roof top restaurant was obviously closed for the season, but they had also "temporarily" closed Effingham's - not sure if this was noted when I had booked about a week earlier.
The staff wore face masks sporadically or wore them incorrectly. Just advising in case this is of importance to you.
Overall a quiet, comfortable stay. I would certainly use this hotel again if staying in the area. The room was considerably better appointed than the other nearby chain hotels and the modest additional cost was worth it for our family.

Had a wonderful one night stay at Hotel Weyanoke. We stayed in the old part of the hotel. It was beautifully renovated with a luxe, modern bathroom and very generous bedroom square footage. All the mod cons one would hope for. This was a college visit to Longwood so our room was a 2 queen and also had a mini-frig and windows on two sides. My only suggestion would be to more thoroughly plan the window treatments as to block light. We were at the end of the hall by request and it was quiet while we were there.
The incredibly friendly front desk staff offered me a tour of the other wing of the hotel and reception showed me several rooms in the portion that faces out over the back / parking lot / preschool / church. Those rooms were very new and modern and some had balconies. I would describe them as "spiffier" with a natural / organic vibe. However, they were smaller than our room in the old wing. I think I preferred the room we were assigned.
Breakfast was marginal: think stale, mass produced pastry (which I didn't eat but my teenager devoured), some yogurt if memory serves. Good, strong coffee.
In sum: Wouldn't think of staying anywhere else for a short trip. And you can choose: old or new.

The room is immaculately clean! The bathroom is spa-worthy! It’s the most unique hotel shower I’ve seen. The lighting was excellent and there were even motion lights hidden beneath the cabinets, so even at night you were not walking into a dark room. We had a lovely little balcony with a small table and chairs where you could sit and enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink. The parking lot is well-lit and all guests must display a parking pass, which adds another layer of security. There are two restaurants on-site, as well as a continental breakfast in the morning. We’re looking forward to returning next month to drop off our daughter at college. If you visit Farmville, this is THE place to stay; you will not be disappointed.

Hotel rooms are large with above average bathrooms; however, stay away from the first floor rooms. They are below ground with very small windows at ceiling height. Also dark and musty. We insisted to be moved to an upper floor with a balcony. To say that this hotel is ADA compliant is a bit of a stretch.

We were sorry to hear that your stay was less than ideal as we strive for excellence here at the Weyanoke. Please know that while we consider part of our charm to be that we are located in a historic building, the Leadership Team does recognize that some of those requirements to keep the Historic status can be impactful to expectations. I would like to highlight that we have some options coming in the near future that will allow us to expand upon the building without impacting our historic designation and we have a variety of room types to select from. It is our hope that you will consider the Weyanoke for future visits and have the opportunity to see some of the enhancements for yourself.

What a wonderful, bespoke, and freshly renovated space the Weyanoke is in Farmville!
5 stars overall!
Cons: The threshold of the room sags due to age of the building, I believe. The bottom of the door let light in from the hallway. I was so tired that it didn't matter, but noticed it as I was falling asleep. They could consider installing something to block out the bottom of the door, or dim the hallway lights in the evening. The crack under the door also contributed to hearing other guests talking (some very loudly) while they came through the hallway. If you're a light sleeper, make sure to bring a sleeping mask and ear plugs (and ask to be placed in a room that is not near the elevator/stairs/ice maker.)
Pros: plenty of storage and dresser space to keep the small floor plan tidy. Modern, sleek bathroom with non-stop hot water, comfortable bed and supportive pillows, easily accessible USB charger wall outlets right above nightstands, with dimmer bedside lights!
As an alumna of Longwood, I am so impressed that Farmville is in a renaissance: modernity meets classic charm.

What a wonderful place to call home for a few days! The room was spacious with comfortable beds and oversized showers. The room’s balcony was the perfect spot to have morning coffee and evening wine while overlooking the quaint town. The friendly staff at the Weyanoke seemed to be genuinely happy to help with our requests. There were three options for meals from the rooftop bar, to a pizzeria, and a gourmet restaurant! While you are there be sure to try the fried brussel sprouts - a house specialty. We will definitely be back Hotel Weyanoke!

We stayed for a wedding that was happening in the area. Upon arriving in iur first room, we were .et with a strong smell of mildew. The sheets were wet, the fridge was leaking and there were dead bugs in the room. We complained to the front desk and they "upgraded" our room to be with the rest of the bridal party. Our next room had a sink that didn't drain but worst of all, the chair in the room was moldy. We complained to the front desk again who advised us to take it up with management when they are in during the week. When we called management on Monday, they initially dismissed our complaints and advised they would only partially refund the room. Unacceptable. Avoid at all cost.

This is my third stay, and it was different due to COVID, but we still enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and professional as they maintained safety, and the property is still as lovely as ever. Be aware that their COVID rules mean that they don’t come into the room during the stay, so plan to request towels, coffee, etc which they bring up to you. They were very prompt with this. This also means the breakfast is pretty much packaged items. That was fine for us— we were satisfied with the choices— just mentioned for others to plan. Everyone was masked and we saw high-touch surfaces being cleaned frequently.

Checked in late at night after cross country flight for an extended stay. The first two rooms had a strong mildew odor and were stained. The front desk clerk went with me to two other rooms that were also mildewy an or moldy. The clerk said she will note the bad condition of the rooms and advised that I speak with management. I stayed in the least mildew room. The next morning I met with the general manager. He never apologized and claimed he could only give me partial credit for the mildew room. Due to the fact that the other 4 star plus hotels were mostly booked for my dates, I upgraded to the "new" side of the hotel to a King room. I was only given the discount rate from my previous booking but was charged the current walk in rate. Bottom line, the majority of the good reviews are for the new section of the hotel. The old "Historic" side is disgusting. The arrogant GM said I was free to go elsewhere. Take his advice and stay at the other 4 star plus rated hotels.

Thank you for submitting feedback on your stay with us. We're sad to hear your extended stay did not meet your expectations. We thought the time we spent with you during check-in, inspecting five additional rooms, and reducing your first night rate at your request, would set us on a path to recovery. We're sorry we were not able to grant your request to reduce our rate for your 2-week stay or to share the hotel's financial documents with you. However, we hoped that checking in periodically during your 14-day stay helped us develop a positive relationship after the mishaps on the first night. Please know that our Housekeeping and Maintenance Supervisors, along with the General Manager, completed full inspections of the rooms you complained about and we have yet to receive any negative feedback from other guests since your first night. We would love the opportunity to work with you on a future visit and ensure your expectations are met. Should you wish to book another stay, please contact our General Manager directly at 434-658-7500.

I would rate it above average or even excellent, except for the musty smell in my room, which they tried covering up thru the ventilation system ( so they know they have a problem). Stayed on first floor which is largely underground on one side. The room itself was large, furnished ok, very nice bathroom with a motion sensor light when walking in the dark. Lighting was odd in that lights next to bed were too dim for reading, whereas the other side of room had overhead spots. Linens were great, bed was soft but that’s how I like it. Breakfast was above average in a below average room. I should have asked to change rooms but did not stay in it until bed time so I did not know how bad it was until the next morning.. I must (no pun intended) have blown my nose every 2 minutes when I woke up. It stopped when outside. Very convenient to Longwood. MY guess is the hotel was no more than 20% full, so knowing there is a problem on the first floor, you would think they would put me on floor 2 or 3. Maybe floor 2 and 3 rooms are better and maybe more expensive?
