My partner and I had a spectacular experience at the Mountain Laurel Inn, and we highly recommend making plans to stay there if you are in the area. Kathleen is a gracious host and prepares a breakfast you’ll remember for a long time. She’s a great story teller with a lot of material — the Inn, the family that built it, and her own fascinating family. We tried piecing together the people and images that fill the Inn, and Kathleen connected the dots in an after-breakfast narrated tour. Kathleen was very generous with her time, and we really appreciated her Covid precautions. The Mountain Laurel Inn’s location was perfect for our needs: a three-minute ride from the trail; two-minute walk to the brewery; and one-minute walk to the grocery store. We’re looking forward to returning next year.…
Our first stay in a bed and breakfast. Mountain Laurel Inn set the bar high!! The house felt like home and the antiques all had stories. We especially enjoyed spending the evenings on the sleeping porch. The owner, Kathleen, was very gracious and kind. The breakfast(s) were truly made to our specifications and were delicious! We hope to return soon.
Absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Laurel Inn. The hosts are kind and the breakfast is bangin! My significant other and I stayed in Grandpas room which was perfect. You'll share a bathroom but we didn't have any trouble crossing paths or being in each others way. There are plenty of places to relax in the house aside from the bedroom and the house has so much character that you'll want to hang out in all the nooks. It's about 5 mins from the Sundog shuttle and you can walk to Demascus brewery. There is also a grocery literally across the street. There is a small fridge you can put items in as well. Picture is from the front door.
We had a wonderful stay at Mountain Laurel Inn. Kathleen and Drew were great hosts. They paid close attention to being safe during Covid. Breakfast was amazing! We highly recommended if you are in the area. We went to the are for the Virginia Creeper and they are right off the trail so convenient too!
We enjoyed our stay at Mountain Laurel Inn. Kathleen was a gracious host. We stayed in the Sisters Room with our 13 and 15 year old and it was much larger than we expected. We had an early departure the next morning and Kathleen prepared a breakfast for us to go. Delicious! Breakfast sandwiches that were hearty and wonderful seasoned. She went out of her way to cater to us. Right in the heart of Damascus but feels like you are out in the country. Definitely stay here!
If my mother had fixed breakfasts THIS good, I might not have left home for college and time with my Uncle Sam. Yep, their breakfasts really are that good; be sure to try the waffles at least one day during your stay. The friendliness, cleanliness, and overall experience were even better than I remembered from last year. A big THANKS to the staff for a much needed relaxing stay.
We stayed at the inn just prior to the covid shut-downs, and had a wonderful experience. The inn is very picturesque, huge rooms with unique features, and very comfortable. Best of all were the breakfasts, as host Kathleen is a truly amazing cook/chef. She gave us a range of menu choices for each morning, and everything she prepared was exceptional (and basically as much and more than we could eat each morning) - eggs followed by Belgian waffles with berries and homemade sauces, fruit dishes, corned beef hash, and shrimp and grits were amongst the items we had. We also got great tips on where to go on our bikes, dinner choices in the area, and interesting sights to see along the way. Could not have been a better choice for a place to stay.
Originally I was super bummed about not being able to travel this year for our 25th Anniversary due to COVID. My husband suggested Mountain Laurel Inn after his coworker raved about it. I am so happy we spent our special weekend there. Kathleen and Drew were so welcoming and fantastic hosts. They are taking all necessary precautions like mask wearing, hand sanitizer available, and cleaning/sanitizing. The house is amazing. I attached a few pics, but they don’t do it justice. (The pics were taken in just the morning light) This home was built in the early 1900’s with all the original woodwork. It is a beautiful piece of preserved history. It’s right on the Virginia Creeper Trail and they even offered a much safer alternative to the shuttle service to help us not have to ride the shuttles with a lot of people. We really appreciated that. After your ride relax on the rocking chairs on the front porch. It’s absolutely worth it. Let’s talk about the food now.... AMAZING!! Breakfast both days were some of the best food I have ever had. We even opted to have dinner there the night of our Anniversary and it was DELICIOUS. I tried a few things I have never had and so glad I did. I appreciated the option to eat there instead of going to a restaurant and I had a meal that was even better than I could have gotten at a restaurant. This was our best Anniversary yet. Thank you Kathleen and Drew for making our weekend unforgettable. We will definitely be back.…
We had a wonderful stay at the Mountain Laurel Inn in Damascus. With COVID reducing our dining options the night of our stay, Kathleen agreed to serve us dinner. I’m so glad we took her up on her offer. All courses were excellent, especially the etouffee and crepe. Breakfast the next morning was equally delicious (don’t miss the waffle). Thanks to Kathleen for being so gracious and accommodating!
In the midst of corona-craziness, my husband and I did some biking on the Virginia Creeper trail, which is literally across the street from the lovely Mountain Laurel Inn. We had to change our plans at the last minute, and Kathleen, the lovely owner of the MLI, made it possible for us to stay extra days AND re-arranged rooms for us. Kathleen is a fantastic host and chef. You are really going to enjoy her breakfasts. I've never had a BNB host ask us what we'd like for breakfast (Answer: shrimp and grits). We had bike trouble in Abingdon, and Kathleen and her husband bailed us out--that was way beyond the call of duty, and we were really touched at their kindness. We hope to visit again in the warmer months. Big shout out to this place!
