Walden Hall sits on one of the most idyllic settings you will ever see! The B&B is set back on acres of beautiful property with a gorgeous pond in the front. We stayed in the lovely Thoreau's Pond Suite on the first floor. It was a beautiful room with a luxurious bathroom. The pool area is wonderful as well! If we had had more time I would have loved to spend the whole day sitting and relaxing out there as it was so peaceful. The owners and staff are lovely. We ate breakfast on the porch overlooking the pond. What a beautiful way to start our day. The meal was top notch! We were served a delicious frittata with bacon, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and pastries. The presentation was beautiful as was the taste! It was evident that a lot of care went into the preparation. We usually choose a B&B because it is located in an area we want to explore; Walden Hall, however, is a destination in and of itself! I hope to return soon just to escape the routine of daily life.…
This was the second time we stayed at Walden Hall, and this time for our 3rd anniversary. The first trip was so idyllic and lovely that it was the only place we would even consider going to for a safe and tranquil staycation since our trip to Jamaica was canceled. Dave and Julie did not disappoint - in fact, they were exceptional. Walden Hall had been closed due to coronavirus restrictions and they planned to open for Memorial Day weekend. Our anniversary falls before this and they were so very thoughtful to open a few days earlier to make our day so special. The ladies who prepared breakfast (which was soooo good) and the house wore masks and gloves at all times and were absolutely wonderful. It was so relaxing to be able to be out in the open, with water, cows, ducks, and amazing grounds and be able to breathe easy without having to worry about masks and passersby. Watching movies in the home theatre downstairs was one of our favorite things to do. The Walt Whitman Suite is divine. And the little touches - like leaving packets of disinfecting wipes in our room, thoughtfully prepared breakfast menus, and clear signage for these new times we're in - were all so appreciated. We will definitely be returning to Walden Hall - next time when it's a little warmer and probably with friends! Thank you again, Dave and Julie.…
We were so fortunate to be able to stay at Walden Hall during Thanksgiving time with our Family! It was so great to have most of us all together. Walden is just the most beautiful B&B. It is so peaceful and quiet, the home is decorated so elegant, the ambience is just perfect! We had so much fun in the game room, playing pool and cards till the we hours in the morning. The theater room was just awesome for some of those family members who just wanted to relax and watch a movie. We had the gourmet kitchen to cook in and lots of Bald Top Beer to drink. The view is nothing but spectacular! The home overlooks a fully stocked pond, with plenty of fishing poles available to use. We couldn't have asked for a better time to spend with our family and with plenty of space to not be on top of each other. The owners were awesome and had everything we needed or asked for. A place you MUST visit! Love Walden Hall! …
My husband and I were in the area for a family reunion and booked into the Longfellow Suite. Our stay was perfect — start to finish, booking to checkout. The location is breathtaking; the inn idyllic — instantly inviting, perfectly warm and cozy (and immaculately kept). Our innkeepers — Julie and Dave — were welcoming and expert: Their advice on how to make the most of our visit to the region made our stay a truly memorable one (the hikes! the vistas! their sister brewery!). Our only regret is that we didn’t book a longer stay. Needless to say, we’re looking forward already to finding our way back — Walden or bust! THANKS so much for a truly perfect getaway.
If you are thinking of doing a wedding here, avoid it all cost. The owner is just not someone you can trust. We went there with a wedding planner to size it. It was an excellent place until we met the owner who 1) tried to round trip the wedding planner and get us to cut her out (how unscrupulous is that);2) tried to raise the price from what she had negotiated with the wedding planner. That was it for us. Even though the place is wonderful, it just wasn’t worth the hassle dealing with someone who was so unscrupulous. If she did this during early stage negotiations, imagine what she would do down the road? Maybe pull the plug of the wedding? So anyone thinking of doing a wedding here, just be aware.
My husband and I stayed for 4 days/3 nights this past weekend, and that being said I'll start by saying that when it comes to ambiance and decor this B&B meets expectations. The rooms are exactly as pictured, and the location is in a peaceful area within a few short miles of a number of different wineries. The hosts, upon check-in, provide complimentary passes for tastings at several of the wineries, so that was appreciated. And the club basement with arcade and theater room are also nice inclusions. However, aside from that, here is where this B&B could stand to make improvements. For starters, my husband and I were served bacon every single morning of our stay. Although the main course changed (egg dish one day, pancakes another), they were all served with a side of bacon, along with yogurt & granola and muffins (also the same each day). Maybe some sausage and/or country ham for variety would be nice and some other types of pastries? Especially considering its breakfast that's usually the highlight of the stay. So needless to say, by the 3rd morning I was less than thrilled by what was being served. Also, let me point out that this is the only B&B that we've ever stayed that did not have some sort of light refreshments available to guests. (And I'm not referring to alcohol) Our first night, for instance, I asked the young lady who checked us in if I could have bottled water because I was a little parched. She stated that they didn't have any, but that I could grab a glass and get it from the sink. I must say, I was not expecting that type of response. Other B&B's we've stayed have not only had bottled water, soda and/or juice available throughout the day for its guests but also fresh-baked cookies or other desserts (usually in the afternoon). But not here. Anything outside of breakfast hour and you are pretty much on your own. Now on to our room, the Longfellow Loft, which was tastefully decorated with a nice jacuzzi tub. The bed was just ok. And while the room itself was neat and clean, my husband and I were overwhelmed by the presence of stink bugs our first night. On the walls, in the closet, and above the tub. I was pretty freaked out by this, and didn't rest until my husband got rid of them all. We did inform the owner Dave, and the next day he made a few adjustments in our room that made for a more comfortable stay. All in all, we had a pretty decent stay. However, having stayed at B&B's up and down the east coast, I don't believe we would opt to stay here again!…
This place is absolutely gorgeous. We decided at the last minute to do an overnight in Shenandoah and found Walden Hall. Yes, there were cheaper options nearby, but we do not regret for a moment spending that little extra for a truly delightful experience. The photos, don't even do the place justice, the house is immaculate - high end details everywhere. We were there with our two kids, and they loved the games and theater room (popcorn provided!). The owners David and Julie were so warm and friendly - even left out a s'mores kit for our kids in the evening because it was a perfect evening for a firepit. They provided an amazing breakfast in the morning with local bacon, giant, fluffy blueberry pancakes, pastires, fruit and some truly delicious local granola. We all wished we could stay longer, and would love to return sometime soon. Cannot recommend it highly enough - such a treat!…
David and Julie are terrific B&B owners, who make their guests feel comfortable and at home. Walden Hall is beautifully decorated with scenic grounds. Sitting on the porch having breakfast and viewing the grounds - can't wait until we return.
This was our first time together at a bed and breakfast, and it was really a special stay. The Emerson Suite is a great choice because it’s in a separate wing of the house, offers a little extra privacy, and opens up to the pool. The bathroom of this suite is a little small, but otherwise the space is large and well appointed with clean and modern furnishings. When we visit a hotel, the biggest thing that sets different places apart is the service (attitude of the staff). The best hotels have highly trained teams that have been coached to conduct themselves with impeccable manners and exhibit warm and authentic service with a smile. We were surprised and very pleased to experience the highest level of service at this little property in the countryside. The whole team consistently went out of the way to make us feel welcomed, comfortable, and at home. There was a s’mores kit in our room because we “might decide to use the fire pit.” After a five-star breakfast carefully prepared to accommodate allergies, we were given extra breakfast to go. At every interaction the staff seemed genuinely happy and eager to make us feel comfortable. We can not recommend this place highly enough. We will be back soon!…
I recently visited Walden Hall with my husband and three year old daughter. Francis went above and beyond to accommodate my daughter's picky eating habits. Beautiful house, fantastic scenery and great service.
