I thoroughly enjoyed everything about The Red Lantern. And especially your friendship, Jo Anne. You are more than just hospitable. You are a real friend. I also enjoyed talking with the members of the band who stay there since you’re just a half a block away from the historic theater. I’d love to come stay there again when the opportunity affords itself time wise. CM from Alaska

We traveled this past weekend to do an Open Studio at the Clifton Forge School for the Arts (Highly recommend) with George Ayars (also highly recommend). This was our 3rd or 4th stay with our dog. It is a lovely Inn and we were made to feel very comfortable. It is a fix-it-yourself breakfast, coffee/tea available 24/7, and cozy accommodations. You can also use the kitchen if you feel like cooking too. A very worthwhile place to stay in Clifton Forge. We highly recommend it!

If you are looking for a fabulous place to stay in the Alleghany Highlands, this is it! Great location with a short walk to restaurants, School of the Arts and the historic Masonic Theatre. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a tour of the house. With multiple areas to enjoy leisure time chatting, watching TV or reading, the house is designed with comfort and privacy for all. An open kitchen with plenty of options for self serve breakfast; bagels, oatmeal, cereal, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and a full size refrigerator to store your own supplies. We enjoyed an upstairs bedroom. It was decorated beautifully with very comfortable beds and excellent quality linens. There are two full bathrooms upstairs with plenty of plush towels and lots of special touches incase you forgot anything. We found the Inn very clean, well lite inside and out, comfortable, in a safe area and with the most welcoming staff. If in the surrounding area we would drive out of our way to stay at the Red Lantern Inn again. The price, surroundings and comfort can not be beat. Joann Carter Henson, the owner, has done a fabulous job restoring this 100 year old building into an outstanding Inn.

Definitely will return .. The Red Lantern Inn is a gem.

I made a same day reservation.. so glad I chose to stay at Red Lantern Inn instead of a chain motel! I needed to stay overnight in Covington, and was not thrilled with the hotel/motel lodging choices, and the prices they were quoting. I called the Red Lantern based on the excellent reviews and made the reservation over the phone. As requested, I called 30 minutes before arrival to make sure someone was there to check me in. I was greeted warmly at the door by the innkeeper, and immediately felt like I was visiting the home of a good friend. We had a nice chat about the area and history of the home, then I got a tour on the way to my 2nd floor room. The entire inn is immaculate, both public spaces and my room. I had a super-comfortable bed, modern bathroom, desk, TV, and club chair w/ottoman in the room. Full size toiletries are in the bathroom (thank you for reducing plastic waste!), and extra pillows and towels are on a shelf in the upper hall. Being a solo woman, I appreciated the dead bolts on the bedroom doors, and keypad locks on all exterior door, although I felt completely safe in the inn and town. You have free range in the house, including a fully equipped kitchen (you can cook your own meals), 2 large downstairs great rooms with multiple seating options, TVs, and tables, and an upstairs sun porch. Breakfast is DIY, with Keurig coffee tea, sweets, cereal, yogurt, fruit, breads, local eggs and more. Very cute decor throughout, mixing period furniture with modern convenience. Will be back if I need a place to stay in the Covington / Clifton Forge area!
