Detailed Reviews
This was an unexpected amazing experience. The owner picked me up at the train station and went out of her way to be sure I had everything I needed for my two day stay. I had a lovely room (Number 1) with private bath. The room was well appointed with all amenities you could ever need, comfortable chair, fine linens, free Wi-Fi, tv, hand sanitizer, soaps and everything was high-end. The bed was very comfortable. The Inn was super clean everywhere. The kitchen was supplied with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, bagels, cereal, juice, fruit and much more. The price seemed low to me, it was a great value and worth much more to me. The owner was wonderful and I am sure I will be staying there again.

We arrived at the Red Lantern Inn for a one night stay, it was clean, warm and cozy, like arriving at a relatives home. The kitchen was totally stocked and even had farm fresh eggs. We stayed in #1 with the private bathroom and had a beautiful view of City Hall and the mountains when it snowed in the morning. Ms. Jo Ann welcomed us and our two English bulldogs and made us feel right at home. Awesome experience, will definitely return again!

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about The Red Lantern. And especially your friendship, Jo Anne. You are more than just hospitable. You are a real friend. I also enjoyed talking with the members of the band who stay there since you’re just a half a block away from the historic theater. I’d love to come stay there again when the opportunity affords itself time wise. CM from Alaska

I would recommend this hotel after the pandemic. The owner was very friendly on the phone when I called to make arrangements as we drove down the highway. The place is a cute, old, shared bathroom hotel. (Much more like a B&B.) The problem during the pandemic is that she did not wear a mask as she checked us in. We stood for several minutes in a small room for the process. (I wore a mask.) The next morning, other guests were in the shared breakfast, living, and hall spaces without masks.
The inn was clean and the owner was friendly. I would stay there again after the pandemic.

Recently a fishing buddy and I stayed overnight at The Red Lantern Inn’s Cottage which is located near the main inn. This 2-bedroom cottage was everything that we could want for a great night’s sleep before rising very early to meet our fishing guide on the James River. There are lots of other outdoor activities that one can enjoy around the Clifton Forge area, and I have already spread the word to other friends, and to family, about the cottage as being an extremely comfortable and quiet place for an overnight stay, or for a longer visit. The delightful innkeeper was very helpful in handling my reservation, and the fresh farm eggs left for us in the fridge (the entire cottage is perfectly appointed with every household need) was a welcome surprise. Staying in this peaceful and private cottage is reason enough to revisit the Clifton Forge area, and any activity one might engage in is simply a bonus to their time spent in that area. Gregg R

We stayed in the little cottage in a nearby neighborhood-it was quiet and spacious-we cooked in and felt very comfortable. We could have gone into town to the main inn for breakfast but we stayed at the cottage. We were staying in CF for mountain biking in Douthat state park-great mountain biking terrain!

This inn offers everything for travelers. Comfortable beds, fresh linens, use of the kitchen with coffee maker and breakfast food, washer and dryer and more. The air conditioning was a godsend this summer. Two large gathering rooms with TVs. The Innkeeper goes out of her way to make everything possible for you and your needs.

Even though it is downtown Clifton Forge, it is quiet, clean and very nice. My wife and I enjoyed our evening. The kitchen is self serve and although there are other guests, you can barely tell. The staff stays offsite, and the kitchen was well stocked for breakfast. You just make yourself at home and can just make your own. I was here with my wife for business, but it was a wonderful place for the evening. It’s a nice getaway.

We stayed in the 2nd floor room #1, it comes with a king size bed and a private show, and is comfortable for two people. The 1st floor has a kitchen and a living room, with nice decorations.
It is a cozy place to stay, and is easy walking to the surrounding restaurants. We would stay here again if going to VA again.

Our relationship with Jo Ann started with us reserving the entire Inn and it was so easy. She answered every question we had and even tried to obtain a shuttle service for our group. When we showed up at the Inn we found a very relaxing environment, plenty of room for everyone, and of course the owner that I was so excited to meet. What a fantastic weekend! We would recommend The Red Lantern Inn to anyone and we also enjoyed the tavern, barber shop, pizza place, and the surrounding area.

Price might vary which room you get and time of year.
The innkeeper had farm eggs when I stayed there, so I was able to make myself scrambled eggs for breakfast. Plenty of off street parking behind the inn.
Hi ~ the room we stayed in had a private bath with a shower. Lovely room on the second floor. Request this one
