After our planned stay at another inn fell through last minute due to unforeseen circumstances while we were en route, a hasty search began for a suitable replacement. We came across the Mad River Inn after several other unsuccessful inquiries, and Susannah answered the call both figuratively and literally! Although further away from our planned final weekend destination, we ended up EXACTLY where we should have been all along. Susannah, Brandon, their daughter Genevieve and their dog Otto welcomed us last minute into their beautiful B&B nestled in the spectacular Mad River Valley.

The room we stayed in - the first floor Quechee Room, was cozy and inviting with stunning views of the surrounding meadows and mountains. Homemade cookies served with afternoon tea, complimentary soft drinks, and Lake Champlain Chocolates also greeted us upon arrival. In the morning, a delicious breakfast prepared by Brandon was served to us on the outside rear porch. In addition, the Innkeepers provided wonderful recommendations for local shopping & dining options for us to explore.

In summary, our brief, unplanned stay at Mad River Inn became a highlight of our entire Vermont sojourn, and while we wish we could have stayed longer, we definitely plan on returning to continue enjoying the warm hospitality and spectacular location this B&B has to offer.

Thank you again - Rod & Nora

The Mad River Inn is a home away from home. A friend and I visited recently from Thursday through Monday and the Inn was quiet, pretty and well cared for. Suzannah and Brandon have created a very comfortable environment that encourages you to relax. My room was so cozy and I did not want to get out of bed since the mattress, pillows and linens were so comfortable. I never nap during the day but the bed, thankfully, made me sleep through the first half of the Giants/Eagles whipping!

When I was not snoozing, Suzannah and Brandon were the perfect hosts that immediately made you feel like you were visiting friends. They provided a delicious, homemade breakfast each day and gave us information regarding places to go in town. After a day of running around, it was nice to return to the Inn for fresh baked sweets.

The Mad River Inn was the perfect place to stay and I'm looking forward to visiting again.

We spent two nights at the Mad River Inn and Brandon and Susannah were so welcoming and friendly. The inn has a great location with wonderful views from the deck where we had breakfast each day. Susannah’s blueberry pancakes are the best.
We were also able to enjoy take out on the deck one night with some friends who were staying nearby and a chilled bottle of rosé wine from the bar. It was such a memorable evening.
Our room was very comfortable and Brandon helped or rather to be exact, changed a tyre for us as we had a slow puncture on our rental car. It’s this kind of care and hospitality that make the Mad River Inn a great place to stay and we would thoroughly recommend it.

We spent 2 nights at this comfortable inn.
Susannah and Brandon are wonderful host’s who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They have thought of everything to make your stay special- yummy breakfast’s made to order, if your a tea lover you will be in heaven never have seen such a selection, coffee available at 7am, baked treats and always fresh water when you come back at the end of the day, more free goodies and soft drinks in the game room with large TV and pool table, very comfortable bed and extremely clean rooms, lovely living room with a fireplace and check out the beautiful etched windows from 1910, any channel you would want on TV’s in the rooms and especially loved talking to them both and petting Otto. What more do you need! It’s only 15 minutes or less to the ski mountains and restaurants.
We highly recommend this inn.

We had a nice two-night stay at the Mad River Inn in May. It is kept clean, owners are friendly, and there was a great homemade breakfast in the morning, which we chose to eat on the outdoor porch facing the farm next-door.

My only issue was the somewhat inaccurate description of the Warren/Waitsfield 2 bedroom “suite”. A suite indicates one shared room for all guests that our family of three could stay in. But, the bathroom is located in the Waitsfield room, and the Warren room is a separate room that you have to pass through the top of a staircase to get to. Our grown kid had to get dressed to go to the bathroom or shower, since the passage between the rooms was a small but public space. Perhaps the top or bottom of this back staircase should be closed off so it feels more private. Was under the impression we would all be in one room. Ideally this “suite” should just be the Waitsfield and Champlain rooms since there is a connecting door between the two of them and you wouldn’t need to leave your room to use the bathroom.

We visited Waitsfield to run the Mad Marathon and truly enjoyed our stay at the Mad
River Inn. Breakfast and dinner were very peaceful on the back patio deck overlooking the fields and Green Mountains in the distance, plus the purple haze sunsets were unique. Clean, comfortable, and peaceful rooms delivered as advertised. The downstairs game room provided a range of options for relaxation, the banana bread snacks were wonderful after our run day, and the Ben & Jerry's factory is a short 10 mile drive away.

We made a last minute decision to ski at Sugarbush and after some searching selected the Mad River Inn for two couples. We selected an option for two rooms. When we arrived Susannah offered an alternative arrangement with two separated rooms each with access to a bathroom at the same rate we booked. This was very thoughtful and appreciated. She recommended options for dinner and showed us around the beautiful and historic Inn giving some history and interesting background. We enjoyed a game of billiards in the game room. In the morning she prepared omelets for breakfast. There was also an impressive selection of teas and coffee. There were many nice touches; comfortable beds, rooms each decorated with beautiful antiques, home baked snacks, cold picture of fruited water and more. We highly recommend this stop, and will come back with a larger group in the future.

This was the first time my (Chinese) wife experienced a true “bed & breakfast”. It could not have been a better experience.

All the rooms are quaint and well equipped with clean bedding and stylish furniture. Our room had a private bathroom as well as a gas fireplace that made it toasty warm. Not all have the bathroom en-suite as some are shared in the hallway.

The hosts, Brendon and Susanne are great. They have a 1 year old cute girl and a super friendly dog named Otto.

There’s a cool lounge in the spacious and comfortable converted basement with a billiards table, many various board and card games, magazines and more.

There’s also a complimentary bunch of goodies like peanut bars, candy and even an assortment of refreshments. Some are Reese’s peanut butter cups and Hershey’s chocolate bars!
The best for me were the brownies that Susanne made herself - to die for!!

Breakfast was made to order and just right.
The other guests made for good conversation and interesting.
I’m sure I missed a few things but in a nutshell, you can’t go wrong.

I usually try to include a negative or at least something that can be improved on, but in this case I cannot.
Keep up the good work!

Howard S.
