Stowehof is a wonderful, classic American hotel, built in the tradition of a Bavarian lodge, circa 1950's. The hotel blends seamlessly with the gorgeous surroundings of the Stowe mountain range which provides the panorama for the hotel. How refreshing to find something so authentic and unspoiled, avoiding the trappings of a canned, homogenized "box hotel", experince. We found Stowehof to be a terrific value for our 6-night, hiking getaway, perfectly set back from the mountain road with easy access to mountain trails in one direction, with the village of Stowe only a couple of miles, below. We especially loved the comfy king bed and also the generously sized, (and again, unique), pool design. Any requests we made of the front desk, (ice, trail suggestions, etc.), was cheerfully met. Don't miss the Stowe Land Trust property which is attached, by trail, directly across from the front doors of Stowehof. These easy trails provided a nice, early-morning warm up with our dog, prior to our daily hikes! Also, we were satisfied with the hotel's protocol relating to COVID-19 safefuards. We look forward to returning very soon and have shared our experince with friends and family via soical media.

I am so glad to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and were able to explore the property as well as the abutting trail networks. The Stowehof is a quaint hotel set off road in its own grounds. It has a spectacular view of the mountains but in my opinion is not in close walking distance of any other restaurants, bars or shops. It is several miles from Stowe village.

The check-in desk is tiny and it took a while for us to locate the receptionist but once our rooms were allocated we found them to be charming and well appointed. The floors were rustic, sloping and creaked a lot but this added to the charm. Linens were of great quality and the bathroom lotions and potions the same. The bathroom was tiny but totally adequate.

The bar area downstairs was cosy and well stocked.

Value for money was good at CAD$128 a night in October, I would recommend if you have your own transport.

Regarding Covid, the Inn was very clean from the common areas to the pool area and most importantly our room. Hand sanitizer was everywhere and everyone wore masks.
The Stowehof has amazing views and you can't help but feel relaxed once you settle in. Our room was large and very comfortable. Chairs were provided for when you wanted to relax and read so you don't have to always sit/lay on the bed. The bathroom was clean and a good size as well. The shower and tub looked brand new.
The pool was great for the hot days and always very clean. The chairs and furniture were all clean and in great condition as well.
Lastly, the location of the hotel is perfect which is why the views are so great. Walking and hiking trails are just up the road and you are very close to Rt 108 with so many stores and restaurants just minutes away.
The Stowehof is the heart of Stowe. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed here in a king room with Mountain View. Gorgeous view from our room balcony. The pool and patio were beautiful and there is a laid back feel to this place.

We were here early in the week, it was quiet and peaceful, exactly what we needed. I can’t say enough about the pool and patio surrounded by mountains, it was paradise.

The front desk filled up our small cooler so we could go on a picnic and was helpful in getting us more towels.

It’s not a cookie cutter hotel and that’s why we liked it. Rustic charm

The hotel must have been understaffed but I think that is common right now.

We had sandwiches in the Fritz on Sunday night, it was delicious and the margaritas were spot on.
The Fritz is closed Monday and Tuesday so if you are dining in Stowe, make reservations ahead of time. We did and we didn’t have to wait.

We will definitely stay here again!

My wife and I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend. We ventured up to northern Vermont for the brewery scene and we booked this hotel in particular because of their craft beer package which we should have received 2 beers and 2 pint glasses upon check in. There was no mention of this upon check in and the process felt rushed so I didn't have a chance to ask about it. Missing out on the beers and glasses (which I collect from breweries) was disappointing, and our room not having any sort of mini-fridge was also disappointing. Our room was very spacious with a great view however; if our balcony was private it would have made it that much better, My wife raved about how comfortable our king-sized bed was, and the cleanliness of the room was notable despite no housekeeping service offered. Overall, this hotel is in a fabulous location in Stowe, central to all necessities and close to many wonderful restaurants. Never got to try the outdoor pool, although it looked lovely. Points off for not getting my pint glass and beer, but the value of the hotel made up for it a bit.

If you are the sort of traveler who expects Hampton Inn/Best Western standards, you may be shocked. This is an OLD property which must have been luxurious in its day (1960's?) but is pretty shabby now. Rooms have old carpet and cheap paneling, hallways are scarily dark. Breakfast waiter was curt and impatient. One bright spot is the large, inviting fireplace lounge, where I spent most of the evening because the room was too depressing.

Way too expensive for what we received. I can see why the property is appealing in the winter for snowshoeing and such, but in the summer you have to drive to get anywhere you want to go in Stowe. There was no one to be found at the front desk--ever. We could not reach the hotel by phone, email, or facebook messages when we had questions. The food is good in the restaurant, but no kids menu, limited selection of items, and quite pricey. The room was musty, wet, and reeked of cigarette smoke. The sliding door was impossible to open. It was too small to even accommodate a small table to eat at. My husband left his leather sandals near the sliding door overnight and in the morning they were so wet that the leather had curled around the edges from all the condensation inside. The tiny, very outdated, air conditioner barely kept our room at 75 at full blast. We cut our trip short by a day to go home.

This is our second stay at The Stowehof. It is such a comfortable place with beautiful and comfortable rooms, exquisite views of the mountains, excellent service, great accessibility to local amenities, and substantial cost-effectiveness. Also, our sense of safety relative to the pandemic was substantial here

I chose this place because it was near winter activities without being too close to the action and was dog friendly. Regretting my choice now. Because other guests bring their dogs, they think they own the place and let their dogs bark all day and run around leashless everywhere. Oh, and the same guests also let their children run around without masks until you finally flag down some help from the staff, so avoid the restuarants and coffee bar. Because it's an older hotel, the walls are paper thin, so you will hear every stomp, flush, cough, and opening door of your neighbors until 3 am, even with the help of ear plugs and white noise. Staff couldn't do much to help here, and the bed is so hard you won't be able to sleep anyway. On the plus side, the hotel has great views and a good location near the woods and Stowe, which is a cute town that likely has many more comfortable and quiet hotels.

Dear Roslyn M, I am sorry to read your comments with regards to your recent stay with us as our goal is to provide every guest with a wonderful, safe experience every time they join us. We are indeed a dog friendly hotel and do designate a specific number of our first floor rooms for guests who are traveling with a dog. I apologize for the noise issues you experienced pertaining to dogs barking as we did contact the guests staying in rooms with barking dogs, however, they did not answer the phones we had on record. We also have a protocol for pet rooms whereby we do not allow our team to enter the guest room without the dog being absent from the room, for both the safety of the dog as well as that of our staff. As you mentioned, The Stowehof is a historic Stowe Hotel and as such, does not have all of the modern soundproofing and amenities that some larger resorts have, but that is indeed a part of the unique charm of the Hotel. Once again, I apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay and should you wish to discuss your experience further, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and it will be my pleasure to have the opportunity to speak with you. Best regards, Ryan Krukar

We loved the style of this place but the dinners were overlypriced for the quality and quantity of food you get. Also, the only reason we choose this location was the opportunity to have an outdoor fire. The pit area looked great but was buried in snow from a storm 3 days prior. We offered to shovel it out as ourselves and other couples in the bar wanted to have a fire. Staff declined us being able to assist but they also didnt budge on offering to take care of it themselves. Its winter in Vermont in a ski town with guests that expect to be able to utilize ammenities as advertised. Its super misleading and theres chords of wood stacked at the entrance for this very purpose.
