    Expansive property
My wife and I stayed here while visiting with our daughter and her fiancé. The property is above average; the room is average. The staff was friendly and helpful. The property covers a large area. You have to walk a few minutes from the main building to get to the outdoor swimming pool and hot tub, as well as the building with the indoor swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. There are outdoor fire pits as well. The resort is pet friendly. If you bring your (allowed) pet, you can stay on the first floor of the main building. Our room (337) was spacious and comfortable. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were provided in pump bottles mounted to the tub/shower wall. We did have a problem with the HVAC unit, where it would not work with the control on the wall to keep the room cool. (The problem was fixed the next day.) We requested floor fans the first night to cool off the room, which were not available. It was also very noisy when the unit turned on. You could also hear some road noise from the room. We used the "Do Not Disturb" sign to ensure that housekeeping would not come into our room. We had plenty of towels and hanging space in the bathroom for our stay. I felt that adequate precautions were taken for cleanliness in these COVID times.
Hello jandc8491, Thank you for the kind review. We're glad the experience was in line with expectations and look forward to a future stay! All the Best, Jeremy Fraize Rooms Manager

Nice resort/grounds. Rooms large but dated. Friendly staff.
Went here a couples weekend in August 2020. Hotel was only half full so I felt good with the social distancing. We'd recommend it for couples and those looking for a few days away. It's not really a luxury resort, but it is nice and pleasant. Here is our review: Location: A Right on the main road and so a short drive to everything. Walking distance (across the street) to the bike path where you can get bikes right at the store. Very convenient. Staff: A Front desk, wait staff, and concierge were super friendly and helpful, giving us tips on where to go, and what to do. Rooms: B- While the rooms are large and bed was comfy, the bathrooms are a bit dated and the shower handle got stuck a lot. And there are no balcony's at this hotel which is a bummer on a nice day you'd want to sit outside and read a book or something. Sometimes I felt i was in a nice motel room. Pool: B Decent size pool and there are 3 of them (small one for adults; large one for families; and an indoor one). The outside pools were FREEZING. Even on a hot day it's too cold to go in the water. I know heating pools are expensive but it makes a world of difference. No one wants to jump into an ice box and it sort of ruins the experience. There also aren't enough seats for everyone due to social distancing so one day we had to come back. Restaurant: B+ Never ate dinner here but the breakfast was A+ and the lunch a good B. Service was very slow at all times but we weren't in a huge rush. We found the staff friendly.
Hello BostonGirl02118, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your August getaway. Our pools are heated to 80 degrees so please never hesitate to let us know if the temperature is amiss and we will notify our engineering team to investigate promptly. We do in fact have a few balconies/decks on the larger suites on each floor as well as the majority of the resort homes if that is something that would add value for your next visit definitely let our reservations team know as it would be their pleasure to help you find that experience with us. We're also very pleased you found our team to meet the mark on being gracious, well informed hosts. That is a cornerstone of our property's hospitality dynamic. We hope you'll have the opportunity to stay with us again in the very near future so we can offer that same warm welcome back. Kind Regards, Team Topnotch

    Totally relaxing get-away
Due to covid we needed a relaxing and safe get-away to which we could drive for the holidays. The 6 hour drive was pleasant and well worth it! We are grandparents with daughter and grandbaby so we rented a resort home that we found clean, comfortable, spacious, and well appointed. The baby loved to run around in what was a safe space :-). We loved the gas fireplaces. We chose to cook in most meals so appreciated the well equipped kitchen (however, if you are planning a long stay you will need small necessities like foil or plastic wrap, dishcloth, spray cleaner for counter, better paper towels). The location is superb - and we even had a lovely view of the mountain ski trails.
Hello Sharrall, Thank you for the kind feedback. There is little doubt that the resort home experience is perfect for the family rendezvous vacation. We anxiously await the next stay. Warm Regards, Jeremy Fraize Rooms Manager

This resort made our getaway easy - easy to relax, easy to have fun, easy access to the beautiful area. We didn’t have to worry about anything! The staff were amazing! From the time you walked up to the doors that they always open for you to the delicious food at The Roost to the comfortable beds at the end of the day! We will definitely be back!

Extremely comfortable rooms: large, inviting, and a "dreamy" bed. All the staff are exceptional and helpful. Hiking right out the door, well located close to Stowe ski area and surrounding activities. Wish we could have stayed longer!

There's no doubt we have plenty of outdoor activities to make the most of during any stay. We also just finished a full renovation of our weight and cardio rooms with brand new Matrix equipment, so even if mother nature isn't cooperating in allowing you that outdoor fitness focused day, we certainly have wonderful opportunity to find it inside the Spa! The entire experience was not pleasant. Food was off, room has paper thin walls and ceiling. You can hear people walking in the upstairs floor and people speak next door. Not a pleasant experiences at all and the furniture is not only old and dated but the tip of the dresser veneer was flaked. Not a very attractive space for the price they charge and the sleep quality they provide.

We had the absolute best wedding at Topnotch. The grounds and tent are absolutely stunning and it was a perfect weekend getaway for guests with so much to do in the area and on the property. The event team, from welcome party through the farewell brunch, was so accommodating. For such an efficient and well organized event team, I had never expected how kind and genuine the entire staff was - totally opposite of “wedding factory vibe”. I believe the chef, Dustin, is relatively new to Topnotch and brings so much experience with him. His creations were DELICIOUS and he was super accommodating during the planning process. I wouldn’t change a thing. We’ll be back, Topnotch!

You are correct Dustin Johnson our Executive Chef brings a wealth of knowledge and many brides and grooms have certainly shared your sentiments this year. Topnotch claims to be a "resort," but is a collection of condo-owned time shares built next to the central lodge. Tucked between them is its best feature, a creditable "spa" with nice facilities, but even it keeps separate the spaces for "members" and guests. Small signs--"No skis here", "No spa parking here" etc.--dot the compound, suggesting a struggle with "entitled" clientele. The 1-BR unit we rented had a comfortable king-size bed that nearly filled the tiny room, and a modern TV that dominated the living room, but the unit overall was dated and in need of an overhaul, especially the tiny bathroom with a tub-shower that leaked through a cheap shower door. The unit is partially below grade, and noise from the one above ours was constant. Topnotch gets good reviews, but is an incoherent, rent-seeking compound not worth its high prices. The place had a tired look and feel to it, with perfunctory, cheerless service.

Traveler178086, I'm sorry to read your impression of our resort. Topnotch is a sprawling property with many opportunities to find yourself immersed in resort activities and in Vermont's rewarding outdoor experiences. While the main lodge consists of 68 rooms there are 16 resort homes in the Topnotch rental pool with additional 40+ resort homes that are privately owned or rented through other property management companies. We work collaboratively with those providers to ensure all our guests on property are universally cared for. The homes in our rental pool are independently owned and furnished to the owner's specific tastes. All areas are accessible by guests and members who have paid the according resort fee or memberships associated with access. The only area that is not directly covered by the resort fee are our private men's and women's lounges which is included with purchase of a treatment or pass specific lounge access. These areas include additional private jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms as well as gas fireplace and tranquil lounge areas. Our team is dedicated to our customer experience and providing the value our customers come to expect from our property over it's storied history. I'm sorry that this did not resonate with you this stay. Should you ever decide to return to Vermont and be willing to allow us the opportunity to show you why so many of our guests consider our operation a home away from home, please feel free to reach out to me directly. I will gladly make certain we prove that we not a rent seeking compound, but a team of associates who are sincere guest-centric hosts focused on making every experience you have with us memorable for the right reasons. Warm Regards, Jeremy Fraize Assistant General Manager

I came here for an unexpected last night after the Hyatt property (the Lodge at Spruce Peak) was so obnoxious I couldn’t take it anymore. Thoughts — negative ones first . . First, it’s too expensive for what is offered as several reviewers mentioned. So be prepared for that. Second, the property is “loved.” No, it’s not brand new. The exhaust fan in my bathroom sounded like a broken car engine — so it stayed off. There are creaks. The walls are thin. But . . . Third, it’s really charming. Adorable with the plantation shutters. The bed was fine — and I’m a bed snob. It reminded me a lot of the pre-reno Sun Valley, Idaho where I spent summers as a kid. The place feels comforting. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. The adult / kid pool separation is wonderful. Fourth, so many staff people tried so hard to be nice. So hard. They must have been responding to feedback here. My sense is they are slammed given the long hours / repeated shifts I saw the poor staff working. I saw your efforts and appreciate them. My only complaint is the pool-for-guests situation. I wanted to use the pool after I checked out, but before I left Vermont that evening. They said they had a shower. When I was finally directed to the shower, it was in the basement in a “family bathroom.” There were no lockers (that I remember now) and I had to dry myself off with paper towels. So not in the mood for complaints or conflict so left it to adventure. When I asked about a hairdryer, a woman said — “Just let her use the spa.” Yea. Right. The main floor of the same building. It was nuts. Seems like $450 entitled me to more than a paper towel bath in the basement. But whatever. Just a flag. I would totally stay here again. Thanks folks!

My husband and I spent a week at Topnotch for our 25th anniversary. The hotel views are beautiful and the amenities are amazing (multiple pools and hot tubs, full gym, sauna, steam room, etc). Our room was spacious and very clean too. Close to a great walking/bike trail that will take you downtown. It was a great relaxing time and would highly recommend this resort.

Wouldn’t stay here again. The grounds are nice, but the hotel is in need of a renovation for what it costs and the fees they add on to your bill are just sleazy. -Small, outdated bathrooms -No ceiling lights. One of those old hotels where you have to turn on every individual light. Dark room. -Noise. You can hear the footsteps of the people above you (toddler above me). Thin walls and hear hallway traffic. Thin windows means you hear people outside who aren’t even talking loudly. -Fees, fees, and more fees. Resort fee. Daily housecleaning fee. Daily bellhop fee. Carried my own luggage the entire trip, never used the bellhop. Yet they wouldn’t remove the fee from the bill at checkout. Stowe is beautiful, but wouldn’t stay here again.

Top Notch was our chosen location for a June 2023 outdoor wedding with 210 guests. We could not have chosen better! Liz and her team turned an elegant resort into a warm, friendly, welcoming and still elegant Wedding Destination for our entire party! They catered to our every need and delivered an exceptional event. Both Bride and MOB were very happy!

Was very disappointed. The nightly rate was far too expensive for a resort that needs significant upgrades in the rooms and restaurant. The staff was pleasant, but far from warm and inviting. Thankfully we only committed to staying one night before we moved on to far superior accommodations elsewhere. We did not use the spa services while onsite as the prices were far too expensive compared to other resorts. The view from the restaurant and resort grounds were pretty, but not worth the overall total cost. My wife and I stayed at several hotels and resorts in the NE over a 2 week period and sadly Topnotch was the worst of them all. We will never be back or recommend to those we love.
