This B&B is in transition. The breakfasts were wonderful and would give it a 5 star rating. They are remodeling and will have this historic inn back to its original glory when they are done. The room I stayed in has not been redone and is sorely in need of it. The staff are friendly and helpful. I definitely will... More

OMG! Worst scariest place I have ever seen. We immediately asked for our money back. The Inn itself is old and smelly but kind of cool, I' m sure the rooms in there are probably nice however when you book online they give you one of the 'modern' rooms in the back addition......NO. Stay away, I'd rather stay at the... More

Hartness House is a wonderful experience! The inn itself is chocked full of beautiful art and history of the original owners who had a taste for exquisite detail. I loved looking a t all the period pieces and discussing them with my nine year old daughter. We both learned a lot not only about the house but also about the... More

This was our second time staying at the Hartness and can't wait to go back again. They are in the process of refurbishing the restaurant and tavern and should be finished soon. Breakfast is included and right now is being served in the ballroom. The use of local ingredients made the breakfast exceptional. We stayed in the James Hartness suite... More

I loved staying here, regardless of the faded carpets and shabbiness. The mansion is very elegant but needs to be refurbished. The bed was very comfortable with a new mattress. We stayed in the old mansion as they are in the process of upgrading the newer wings. They are also upgrading the kitchen and Tavern restaurant and will eventually upgrade... More

I travel a lot and usually stay in "chain" hotels, but the Hartness House was ranked high in Trip Advisor and was close to my business contact so I reserved a room for three nights. The house was nicely decorated and was at one time the house of the Governor of Vermont with much history. I was assigned a room... More

Found this place by accident. Couldn't find anything very close to the ski resorts over the holiday weekend, so decided to try the Hartness House. It was the highlight of the weekend. The staff were attentive and helpful. Included breakfast was fantastic. The stay included a tour of the underground bunker/telescope room. The history was very interesting. The ride to... More

We spent the weekend at the Hartness House and it was wonderful. The staff were very accommodating, and upgraded us to a very nice suite before we even arrived. The house is beautiful, all dark hardwood and lace curtains, but still has all the amenities- including new flat screen TV's in the rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the... More

We stayed in the James Hartness Suite, which felt extremely luxurious and spacious, since we had a living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The decor was nice, the fireplace was roaring (especially nice during a January visit), and the room felt very private. The staff was extremely accommodating and went out of their way to make us feel welcome... More

My wife and I decided to do a New England Christmas this year and felt that, as a counter-balance to the hustle and bustle of NYC, a few days in Vermont would really make the Holidays special. When we checked in (we had originally booked the Lindberg Suite) the innkeepers gave us the option of the Hartness Suite. Now, I... More
