I've been here for dinner many times at the restaurant. The food is always great. Haven't stayed overnight but relatives have stayed in the rooms multiple times for years (going back to the 1990's) and keep returning. The service is very good and the location and building are really gorgeous. One of the most beautiful inns in one of the most beautiful villages in New England. A very calm place to spend time.

Property's Favorite Review
Wow! In need of a a little getaway during these crazy days of Covid-19, we decided to stay in Vermont, our home state. We looked all over the map and ended up 15 min away from our home in Brattleboro, at the beautiful Four Columns Inn. Five nights there and we could not have been happier. We felt safe and saw that all precautions were taken to ensure the safety of their hotel and dining guests. Our room was spacious, clean and we loved the welcome amenities of hand sanitizers and bottled water. The property is spacious, you can hike up the trails and be away from civilization. We enjoyed three amazing dinners outdoors in the lovely garden. Even in the rain, it was cozy and just so romantic, sitting under the trees by the pond and enjoying Chef Ralph's cuisine and a good bottle of Austrian Grüner Veltliner or a French Syrah from the Northern Rhone. We felt safe and could not have been happier spending our vacation with each other at the Four Columns Inn, in our lovely Vermont. STAYCATION. Support your local businesses!

We needed a getaway at the end of June but were very particular about where we wanted to go, even though it was closer to home than we bargained for the Four Columns ticked all the right boxes as to what we were looking for. Our room was spacious with a deck that overlooked the gardens. Plenty of room to spread out and, most importantly, breathe deeply and relax during the midst of the pandemic: we definitely recharged ourselves just by being there at that time. In the morning breakfast was more of a self serve affair with fruit, coffee/tea, breads and yoghurt on off, each individually wrapped for safety. Not to everyone’s aesthetics but the Inn has to cater to this lethal virus with all due diligence and safety in mind for all. These are not normal times. Dinner was a definite highlight of our stay and dining in the garden really highlighted our experience too. Having eaten inside at Artisan before I did enjoy the atmospherics of the outdoor dining slightly more (including our second night where we huddled together more under the umbrella at dinner during a brief downpour). I cannot wait to see what chef Ralph comes up with once he is given more normal circumstances to play with in the kitchen. We have since been back to visit Nick and his team for dinner and plan on more visits in the future. They do a great job from their contact-less check in to maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the (in state) traveler. We were more than impressed with our stay and have already begun recommending the Four Columns to all. It isn’t easy for small Hotels or Inns to survive during the current time, Four Columns are doing all the right things to encourage visitors to stay and to keep them safe. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and kind words! It means the world to us that you appreciate what we are doing during these challenging times and that you felt safe during your stay. We are lucky to have the wonderful gardens that have become our 'dining room' over the summer and are the perfect surroundings to compliment chef Ralph's food! We can't wait to get back to 'business as usual' and to welcoming you back again!

When I say that I tell everyone about this place, I’m really not exaggerating... My husband and I escape to Four Columns as many times a year as possible. The top notch staff (who we have grown to know personally, and by name), the outstanding food, the classic and timeless atmosphere and local offerings (try the caramels, SERIOUSLY) left in our room each stay keep us coming back for more. We haven’t been able to visit since January of this year due to COVID-19, so we weren’t really sure what to expect. That being said, we were so pleased with the way that Nick and his team handled everything. From contactless check in, to enjoying our dinners surrounded by the beauty of well-maintained gardens, birds chirping and happy little frogs leaping in and out of the pond... My husband even came back to our room each morning with fresh coffee and a locally sourced breakfast selection. We love this area so much and we love even more that they bring all of the artisan goodies right to us, supporting local business, especially during this crisis! After a long first half of this year, we were relaxed for the first time in a while. We’re already counting down the day days until we can go back.

The place was just OK. Positives: Beautifully landscaped. Nice pond. The pool looked nice from a distance. Large room. AC was quiet and worked well. Plenty of storage for clothes. Easy, no contact check-in. Clean towels. We never got a chance to go to the pool because there were always children there being kids (loud) plus we didn’t want to be around people because of coronavirus concerns. Negatives: Plumbing makes noise when you take a shower. The Jacuzzi jets were disgusting; filled with caked-on, orange nastiness. The breakfast was processed, unhealthy food. No fresh fruit. Bagels and muffins wrapped in plastic as well as hard-boiled eggs and mini cereal packs like Frosted Flakes. But the biggest issue of concern was the people walking in and out without a mask on. There many times that someone was sitting in the common area without a mask on, even though there were signs asking people to wear a mask. And the guy who works there, George, walked around without a mask. I would not go back, not even post-COVID.

Dear Monica, you have our sincere apologies that you encountered some negative aspects to your stay. It is challenging to know what the right thing is to do in the current climate and we are happy that you liked the contactless check-in process (which seems to be the consensus as the right thing to do). At breakfast we can only assume that you missed the refrigerator in the breakfast room which is under the countertop? This is stocked daily with fresh whole fruit, hand squeezed orange juice, and parfait cups with Vermont yogurt, local berries & Vermont granola (from our friends at Backroads Granola). We will try and make this more obvious to future guests as we wouldn't want anyone to miss out on that. Yes you are right, the cereal is obviously bought in as its hard to offer that otherwise, but the bread for toasting is also from a local company (Red Hen Baking) and the muffins are homemade. Again, it was hard to know what to offer as a continental self-serve option, and so far guests have been very complimentary on the offerings, but we will look to improve it further. We do have signs posted in the public spaces notifying guests that masks are required, but it is often hard to police as the front desk is operating on a limited schedule right now for both staff and customer safety. We will strive to add more signage to make it plainly clear that masks are definitely required!
