Just got back from a great long weekend spent in Vermont. We stayed at the Capitol Plaza which was a easy drive to the mountains (Sugarbush and Stowe) and in the heart of a great brewing/ distillery scene. Definitely be sure to check out Lawson's Finest Liquids, Caledonia Spirits Inc, FOAM brewery, or any of the other options in the surrounding Towns. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and you cant beat the location! Would definitely recommend to any family/ friends heading north.

I recently stayed again for a business event and was impressed with the staff, room and food. In the bustle of departure I arrived home to find that I had left my winter coat in my meeting room. The staff was quick to track it down and mail it to me several states away. Beyond the call of duty and I am grateful.

Review collected in partnership with this hotel
Lovely old hotel with stunning upgrades. Room was pleasant, bed comfy, the robes are fluffy and snuggly. Not enough electrical outlets near the bed for modern travelling, however. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good and room service was fast. (Delivery guy spilled a soda all over, but quickly cleaned it up and brought another one). The TV channel selection was meh, and the TV listings unnecessarily complicated. If it's going to be that complicated, at least provide a cheat sheet on how to operate it! Personnel were helpful and came to my room to download TV listings.

I usually stay at a Hampton Inn which is much “fresher”, includes breakfast, complimentary coffee and free newspapers. I felt nickel and dimed at this hotel. One night there was very noisy construction drilling at the attached building bank. I was told it would be over at 10 pm and was offered another room for a $35 upcharge!!! The staff was very pleasant. Needless to say I won’t be staying here again.

Response from VermontTravelfamily, Manager at Capitol Plaza
Responded Jan 30, 2020
Dear Luannwenthold. I’m sorry that your experience was not up to our standards. I was unaware that the night-time construction from the bank was noisy. I have asked the bank to be aware that the construction was noisy and that it was going into the evening and disrupting our hotel guests. She didn’t know there are hotel guests above and apologized and said she would let the contractors know they cannot make noise in the evening. I was surprised to see that our front desk receptionist was going to charge you $35 to move to a room away from the construction. She is one of our best in customer service, but in this case, she made a bad judgement call. She should’ve moved you without any expense. I have talked with her, as well as the other receptionists, and have advised them as such. I understand that after your first night you requested to be moved to a guest room with a tub, and I trust that our staff did that seamlessly. As an apology for the noisy construction and our receptionist’s error, I’m going to credit your card. If you are in the area, please let me know and I’ll be happy to ensure your next stay is perfect. Thank you, lcain@capitolplaza.com

Whenever we travel to Montpelier, Vermont, we stay at the Capitol Plaza. It's warm and inviting, the restaurant is predictably excellent and the staff is super friendly. Friendly, genuine, comfortable and moderate in terms of amenities and price. If online prices are cheaper than the hotel's website, call the hotel and book direct. They might give you the lower rate.
