Charming historic inn with great complimentary breakfast. We wish the lady at checkin had been a bit more welcoming though. Our room was on the smaller side, but cozy and well equipped (robes, hairdryer etc.) and there’s also complimentary coffee, tea and water. Our bathroom was clean, but the bedroom was a bit dusty.
We were coming up to the Middlebury area for some biking and hiking and were looking for a comfortable place to stay in town. We found Swift House Inn through a Tripadvisor search and could not be happier with our choice. The room we stayed in was in the Carriage House - while the furniture is a bit dated, the room was spacious - a king bed, a sofa and a chair, plus an alcove with a desk and room for me to do yoga with lots of room still to spare. The bathroom has a huge jacuzzi tub/shower combination and the water gets hot almost instantaneously. There's also a sauna at the base of the Carriage House for a little indulgence. There is housekeeping every day without having to request it (a benefit we greatly appreciated) and the linens and towels are plush. There are nice toiletries on the sink and my personal fave - a tissue box in the bathroom AND on the nightstands. The breakfast is served in a comfortable dining room and the service is warm and welcoming. (A special shout out to Orin who really made sure every need was met.) I learned during breakfast that the Inn was bought by a couple from the LA area during the pandemic. You can tell that they aim to meet the demands of city dwellers while keeping the charm of a quaint Vermont inn. We spent a good deal of time with two other couples staying there - from Maryland and Wisconsin (we're from NYC) - and all of us had only raves for the Inn. If you can impress 6 people with varying tastes, they must be doing something right!…
This is a beautiful old and historic Inn and property. The rooms have been remodeled and baths updated. The breakfast is provided in the Main Inn, where their restaurant is located. It's a great BnB experience in a beautiful area of Vermont. The staff was hard working and very helpful.
We booked this months ago for a 50th Middlebury College reunion because my partner wanted a nice place to stay while I attended the festivities. When we arrived the room we picked out had some issues so we were kindly offered another room for 2 nights and then a switchover to another for the final night. Thee first room in the main house was a lovely room with a country farmhouse feel, the only caveat being a closet light that turned on and off all night. The second room in the Gate house was just perfect with a newly remodeled bathroom. Really nice. The breakfast turned out to be a buffet whose standouts were a delicious crust less quiche and an amazing blueberry scone that melted in your mouth. Many thanks to Orrin at the front desk who was so friendly and helped us out with what we needed. He is a true customer service person. All in all we had a great stay here at this lovely Inn.…
We had booked and were happily looking forward to our stay at this lovely inn, but on the morning we were to arrive my husband tested positive for Covid. When we called to cancel, well after the free cancellation period, we were told that our down payment would be refunded. This was much appreciated and a very generous gesture. We will definitely be rebooking. Thank you Swift House Inn.
We were warmly welcomed by Orrin upon arrival as he showed us to our room and gave a tour of the inn. Each morning, our server Todd, was prompt and friendly. The food was exceptional. Probably the best I've ever eaten at a B&B. The inn was in a quiet and conveniently located near town.
Swift house is an expertly run small hotel with an excellent location. We were upgraded to a lovely room in the carriage house by the very friendly receptionist. We did not eat dinner at the inn, but the bar looked cozy and well-stocked. The breakfasts were truly excellent - generous, varied, and promptly and efficiently served by the charming Inn owner (who informed me that her husband prepared my superb blueberry pancakes on our first morning). We appreciated that they welcomed our Middlebury daughter to breakfast the second day - and happily surprised that there was no charge even though she was not staying at the inn. That spirit of hospitality truly makes an impression, as does the clearly hands on involvement of the owners.
We arrived for fall colors and this was a perfect spot to start our adventure. Local hiking trails are easy to find, and walking around town for two days we did not need the car. A local "cartoon" map was available and allowed us to easily find where we wanted to go. Quiet Inn, the grounds were beautiful, the room was spacious and the bed was great. Several nice little touches with chocolates and a nice welcome note on the bed during arrival. It was an anniversary for us, and that was both recognized and rewarded with champagne in Jessica's restaurant at dinner. Meal times were scheduled in advance so we knew when our seating was , which was perfect.
Grounds so beautiful. Staff friendly and helpful. Bartender offered great suggestions. Breakfast delicious and dinner fantastic!!!! Wish it was closer than four hours away for a nice getaway! Busy downtown area, college town. very pretty and New England.
Fantastic experience in this inn. I stayed in the Swift Room (24) which had a nice balcony and large tub. It also has the first phone (non functional) in town. Breakfast, while a little slow, was excellent and included. The grounds and buildings are beautiful. I’ll definitely stay here again when I’m in Middlebury.
