We stayed one night in Middlebury while driving through Vermont. The Middlebury Inn is a charming, traditional style inn with antique furniture and some of the drawbacks that come with being an old building. The rooms were moderately sized and comfortable and clean, but the original building is a bit of a maze of stairs and hallways with some cobwebs... More

Forty years ago they connected the Main Inn to an adjacent (equally historic) Bank/Insurance building. The result was some additional stairs to the 3rd floor and a sloping ramp to traverse the connection. And I should point out, we have many good deals offered throughout the year that you may find more to your liking, but alas, we don't offer... More

This was my second visit to the Middlebury Inn -- the first was nearly 20 years ago. Much has changed. On my first visit, I stayed in the main Inn, which is lovely and has been carefully tended and updated over the years. It continues to be a true gem. On this visit, we were lodged in the annex --... Happy to see you back after 20 years - there might even have been a few familiar faces. I'm sorry we weren't able to accommodate you in the Main Inn but as you pointed out, that is our busiest time of the year and even more so this year - it was the best foliage we've seen in a number... More

Arriving early is not pleasant here. Asked to pre-register and show AAA card whose info was carefully documented(overkill.) Returning close to actual check-in time was still not acceptable except for our sister-in-law whose room was ready because desk clerk Patricia said "I like you."Finally got to our room to be greeted by a view of a rooftop and other hotel... I'm very sorry that Patricia came across as rude - I hope it was a misunderstanding. Early check ins during our peak season can be difficult, but there is no excuse for rudeness. After all we do this everyday and certainly know the proper way to handle the situation. I will say that your 'scullery' description troubled me - I... More

The Inn has a very convenient location to downtown and Middlebury College. It has kept a lot of its early 20th century charm, with an open lobby and antique furniture. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. The elevator, however , is a bit odd. It must be run by the front desk staff, who were not the most attentive. We... More

Our old Otis elevator does bring some interesting comments. But I apologize that we weren't as attentive as we should be - it can be a challenge during busy times to keep up. And I'm sorry you missed dining in Morgan's Tavern - I bet you would have enjoyed it, but you're correct - the nice thing about Middlebury is... More

Great old hotel. Needs a little updating, and what has been updated looks like a weekend handy man special from Home Depot, but no matter, a great place to stay. Quite rooms, great staff, great location, and ... funky!

We were staying at another Inn in Middlebury and decided to stay an extra night in the area. The other place didn't have open rooms for the second night, so we booked at Middlebury Inn. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suite and had great service from Chelsey. She took us up to our room in an old fashioned... More

As I mentioned in my last post, it's an easy town to walk and most everything is within a short walk. We do have a great local shuttle bus that covers a good portion of our county and can get you to Rutland or Burlington as well. I appreciate your nice comment about Chelsey - I'll be sure to let... I enjoyed my stay here immensely. Loved being able to walk to every restaurant in town and to the college (takes about 15 or 20 minutes). My preference is staying in the main hotel building. Love the history of this place. They also have motel rooms out back by the parking lot which are good for people who have pets... More

When you stay at the Middlebury Inn you can park your car and forget about it for a couple of days. There is plenty to do and see within a 15 minute walk including the Middlebury College campus. If you're more energetic you can even walk to the new sites on the "Tasting Trail" which is a good idea because... More

We spent one night in Middlebury, and were delighted to stay at this old historic inn. We do hope you will stay longer next time, especially at such a nice time of year. We talk a lot about our old Otis elevator and most of my employees are pretty adept at operating it. My room was large and clean, but bland. Spacious lobby and veranda. Little outdoor courtyard. Proficient staff. I was disappointed that the on-site restaurant is closed for dinner on Mondays as restaurants in the tiny town of Middlebury are extremely limited. All night traffic noise made sleeping very difficult as the hotel sits on a major truck route through town.... More

We certainly strive for better than 'just average' but we also take to heart any and all opinions of our old historic Inn. You're correct that we can't control our location and if you had the windows open you could have been disrupted by the traffic - you're here to have a good nights sleep and for that I apologize.... My family stayed at this inn for a few days while waiting for our new home. The Inn has a good reputation in town but I had to experience it myself. Well, I'm sorry you weren't particularly happy with your stay here, but welcome to the area regardless. I hope you'll give us another try, if just for Lunch or Dinner. Maintaining a 187 year old Inn has it's challenges, but certainly nothing should appear 'crappy' - we'll try to sharpen our focus and see through your eyes just what turned... More
