The Middlebury Inn, steeped in history, offers guests a central location hailed as ideal for exploring the local area. Its high-ceilinged rooms and charming decor are often appreciated, though some guests perceive the atmosphere as dark and musty.
While service and room experiences receive mixed feedback, including reports of neglect and inconsistencies, many visitors commend the hotel's cleanliness and the availability of pet-friendly accommodations. However, the perceived value of the stay has been questioned, with some guests expecting more for the price paid.

We were thrilled with our stay at the Middlebury Inn! The pet friendly rooms in their annex are perfect for travelers with pets. The rooms were very clean and spacious with direct access to the outdoors. Our Westie was provided with yummy biscuits and a special blanket to use during his stay. Unlike many other hotels, you can leave your pet in the room while you are gone as long as they are well behaved, i.e. quiet and respectful. A small pet fee is charged and I would recommend that you book early for one of these specific rooms.

Had 3-day business function in Middlebury, so location of Inn was convenient. Used Accessible accommodations in the Annex, and found them lacking. Appeared to be only two handicapped parking spaces for entire facility, and both nights we stayed they were not available. Neither sized for wheel chair van use. Had to park at far end of distant lot after Front Desk woke us at half past midnight the first night telling us to move our vehicle (which we had parked next to the reserved spaces near our room). On second night unpermitted vehicle in handicapped parking space did not get moved. Controls for heater/AC unit hidden behind a heavy table, which had to be dragged away in order to use them. Untextured grab bars in shower were slick when wet, and exposed metal plumbing under sink in bad spot, otherwise bathroom well laid out for wheel chair use. Room was clean. Front Desk did not tell us housekeeping would not service room (we thought Covid restrictions had been lifted). Beds were soft and springy, but it was quiet and we slept well. Nobody answered phone to make initial reservation. Unable to reserve same room for two consecutive nights using online reservation system (thankfully Reservation Manager corrected this after a day or so). Front Desk tacked additional $50 charge on our credit card because "it was policy" (in case we charged anything to our room), and required us to sign off on this in order to check in. Other guest at Front Desk annoyed she had no WiFi access (we didn't try using it ourselves). Even though on site restaurant advertised "fresh local cuisine," instead of Green Mountain or other Vermont-roasted coffee, it was amusing to find the room stocked with flavorless "Seattles Best" coffee. We were disappointed by the inconveniences and our overall stay, and did not feel we got good value for the cost. Next time we'll try the Marriot, which has more competitive pricing and ADA compliant rooms.

Stayed at the annex. Room is spacious and clean. Grounds are nice with access to porch and back patio. Walking distance to everything. Bed however is very firm and uncomfortable. There is no breakfast included in the rate and the only breakfast option is brunch on the weekends. Coffee and tea in the lobby is not worth the effort; no decaf, the hot water was lukewarm and the regular coffee was no better than the machine coffee you can make in your room.

The Inn is a beautiful property on a central intersection near the main street in Middlebury, so the location is wonderful. It has a welcoming front porch with rocking chairs. The main entry has the reception, bar, seating area and restaurant.
There are rooms in the main ‘old’ building and rooms in a newer annex building behind the property. I booked a room in the main building and was quite pleased with the atmosphere of the room and amenities. I would recommend requesting a room in the main building. My daughter stayed with me this trip and said it was much better than when she stayed in the annex a previous time.
I had been traveling to Middlebury several years before actually staying at this Inn. On other trips, I often would walk to the Inn and get a glass of wine and sit in one of those relaxing rockers on the porch to watch the world go by.
I always found the guests were friendly as they were either tourists on biking tours, there to see the fall foliage change or other Middlebury College parents visiting their kids like myself.
A comfortable place to stay or stop for a bit of relaxation.

As a Middlebury alum, I have stayed at the Middlebury Inn several times over the years. The rooms in the main house and the adjoining two houses are comfortable and luxurious. Classic decor, inlculding antiques, objets d'art, old books, period chandeliers and lamps, etc. Rooms in the annex facility are simply utilitarian, though usually lower-priced. I miss the breakfastt they used to serve. Only compplaint was that the WiFi service was not working.

One of the few Vermont inns on the list of Historic Hotels of America is The Middlebury Inn (1827)2019 winner of the Award of Excellence in the Historic Hotels of America.
In contrast to many of the other drab, uninteresting options, this hotel is much more charming, and quaint. It is NOT "luxury”. However, they do offer spa services.
The rooms are kept in good condition, and the maintenance team responds quickly to any issues. Just speak with Becky and Chantal, the front desk employees, about any needs.
The bedding and towels are very comfortable, and the inn has many modern amenities.
Breakfast or dinner are both good options at the Middlebury Tavern. Sue and Diana, two of their long-time dinner servers, are amazing. Thursday night's music is a nice addition.

We appreciated staying right in the village, walking distance of everything. Teen and adults could easily do their own thing and meet up on foot. The drawing room is spacious, with the kind i of writing desks at which Jane Austen’s characters used to write letters as well as comfy chairs, plus tea and coffee in the morning.
The porch is also a great place to sit and watch the world go by. We were lucky to be there during the 3-day series of concerts in the park, just opposite.

I want to start by saying, the staff is VERY friendly, the food was all very good, and the rooms were small, but VERY clean and comfortable. The Inn itself is charming and has a lot of character, and due to its age and wanting to keep that charm, upkeep can be expensive, thus the high cost of a room being completely understandable. And although it lacks an on site gym/pool, the tub is old fashioned and deep making for a very comfortable private soak (and their shampoo made fantastic bubble substitute). So if you are looking for a really peaceful, read, self entertained get away, this is a pretty good choice. On the other hand, be prepared for stairs and creaky hallways and a space that is not very handicap friendly as most historical places. Overall, for the actual accommodations and the price, we would not have stayed at this particular place if there was another convenient option. I am not easily entertained, so I was rather bored in my down time. And overall, the price was high for me, not because the Inn is not worth it, but because it is not what I look for in overnight accommodations. Another note, I did not see any children the whole weekend. Take that as you would like.

Yes - they have a large main lot and a few overflow lots; beyond that if you go a block away there's tons of on-street parking.
No but you are given passes for access to a local health club/gym.
The college is very walkable from the Inn. It is maybe two blocks.
Hi- I'm unsure . We only stayed in the main inn.
The annex....but the rooms are spacious and nice!(The main Inn is not far....2 minutes?
