Home away from home - with stellar service
The Kimpton Taconic is like our second home away from NYC - without the hassles of homeownership but with the added perks of excellent service. The staff takes the time to know guests and cater to our every whim. Friendly service starts at check-in. Binoy at the front desk made sure that we got our favorite room. Kudos to him for handling the front desk by himself while also hosting the evening Social Hour - all with a smile (and he was back on duty 12 hours later!). After check-in, he texted us to ensure we had everything we needed. James W was another friendly and diligent staff member who greeted us every morning and ensured that complimentary coffee and tea were always available. We had an issue with Chromecast on our TV, but the front desk and Engineering looked into it promptly. The problem could not be resolved, so they offered us a complimentary in-room movie and waived the resort fee at check-out. I can't say enough positive things about this property. It's one of our favorite Kimptons and why we come back several times a year. You're sure to be well taken care of here!
Thank you so much for your review, and especially for the kind words on our staff members. Nothing pleases me more than when a member of the team contributes in a positive way to a guest experience, thank you for mentioning it. We are thrilled that you consider us your home from home and look forward to welcoming you back again (and again!).

    Beautiful Hotel; Great Service
We recently spent three nights at the Kimpton Taconic and it did not disappoint. I had booked through a deal I found on Travelzoo - note: when we were checking out, the girl at the desk let me know that they'll match these types of offers, so you can book directly with the hotel instead. This is a pet friendly hotel, which we didn't realize prior to booking, but that wasn't an issue as we are animal lovers. If we hadn't seen dogs around, we wouldn't have even known they were there. This hotel is super clean and I loved the decor. In the mornings they have complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the lobby. There is water and lemon water also out during the day. In the evening there was a "social hour" where guests could have a choice of one beer or wine. This was held in the lobby by the fireplace. There is also an area with couches, a TV, books, and games where guests can retreat to. Our room was very nice - a king bed with a fireplace. We had two keycards to enter the room, and never had any issues with those, which sometimes has happened with other places we've stayed. The shower had adjustable water pressure and the bathroom was a good size. The only thing we had somewhat of an issue with was controlling the temperature in the room. If we turned the temp down one degree, we were blasted with really cold air. This wasn't a huge issue for us, just a little annoying at times. The closet in the room had a safe, umbrella, walking stick, and robes. The room had a refrigerator that held various choices for drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol) and snacks. The cabinet with the refrigerator had a lock with a key if you wanted to keep it locked. I'd also like to say that the front desk staff were all extremely nice and very inviting. When I broke a nail and requested a nail clipper, it was delivered to our room promptly (with a nail file, too) and someone even called to make sure I received it. There is a restaurant onsite (The Copper Grouse) and we had great experiences there. The bartenders were social and helpful with drink choices. The meal we ordered was very good. The area has shopping and various winter activities. The hotel provides a shuttle for certain activities, too.
Dear Diana., Thank you for choosing Kimpton Taconic Hotel on your recent three-day excursion to Manchester, VT. We value our guest’s feedback and appreciate the time you have taken to share your experience with fellow TripAdvisor users and us. We are delighted to hear that you have referred to our hotel as "BEAUTIFUL" and the service you received was "GREAT". You description of all that we offer, the hotel, your room and the amenities are spot on and I am certain help other that may travel to the area. It always bring me great pride when I hear stories of our team members who make such a difference by doing something as easy as supplying nail clippers and emery board. We have these, and many other items, available in our "Forgot It, We Got it" program. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the area. Warmest Regards, John Burnham General Manager

Beautiful hotel with amazing amenities and outstanding staff!
Hospitality, food and view were all magnificent! This lovely space nestled in the Taconic Mts. met and actually surpassed all our expectations. It was immaculate and nicely appointed with everything we needed during our stay. The bed and luxury bedding were exceptional and the washroom was equipped with a magnifying mirror, walk in shower and bath robes! There was a even a yoga mat in the room! You will feel special the moment you walk in! We were greeted with a smiling face, Robert, who offered us a personable and informative introduction to our stay! We enjoyed free drinks during happy hour and a delicious gourmet meal in the in-house dining room! In the morning, a free grab and go breakfast was provided and we left with huge smiles on our faces! Thanks for the awesome hospitality, Robert!

Only one person was working the front desk, valet and luggage. The fireplace in our room was inoperable. Other items didn’t work. A lot of apologies but oh well. We won’t be returning. If we hadn’t had a full day of travel- we would have re-packed the car and looked for alternative lodging.

We once again had a great experience at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester. The rooms and public spaces are well appointed and welcoming. But what makes this hotel special is the exceptional customer service. From the very helpful and thoughtful valet Tylor to the hard working and considerate housekeeping staff, we really appreciated their professionalism and care. And Anne and Nick deserve a special mention for their superb guest service. We wish that the Copper Grouse was open more nights and for lunch, but want to recognize the team there, especially Kristin, Jen and the manager. We also love that the hotel is dog friendly and that there are thoughtful pet amenities.

The Taconic is a very nice hotel located maybe a mile from the outlets in Manchester. While I had considered staying at the Equinox, and thought this might be a step down, I realized this was a better choice after visiting the Equinox. Hotel is in new to like new condition. Dining room on site is great to have. Plenty of parking. I do have a couple of suggestions though. It was disappointing to find out that the bar on site is not open Tuesdays and Wednesday nights. This leaves no choice but to leave the hotel for a drink. Not really a huge problem because there are alternatives within close walking distance. The hotel also offers a shuttle, which I suspect will deliver you to wherever you want to go. I could also do without the “resort fees”. Tell me what the charges for the room and I will decide whether or not I want to pay that. I always feel like the resort fees are something that hotels try to sneak by you. Truth be told, that is why I didn’t stay at the Equinox. I got to check out and then the resort fees appeared.

Thank you for your feedback - we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay! Apologies that the restaurant isn't open every night right now, but in addition to the restaurant we do have our nightly 'social hour' where guests can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine each evening in our library, which we hope you got to enjoy while here. (You are correct that our complimentary shuttle will take guests to any of the many restaurants nearby any night of the week too!). We hope to see you again on your next travels this way.

My husband and I found this hotel to be dirty. We went to our room and our room smelled, so we went to the check-in desk and requested a different room. This new room did not smell like the other room, but the new room was dirty. There was dirt in the corners of the bathroom and there was dirt on the walls overall a dirty room. The pillow on the bed was something that you would buy at Walmart, the pillowcase did not fit properly. The comforter was covered with the sheet which was fine but when the sheet came back the comforter look like it had not been washed in a long time because it was a grayish white color. The elevator has a garbage can in it and it was not emptied from the day before to when we left the next day, and there was garbage in the bottom of the can. The commons area look to be nice but the hallways by our room was missing a bulb in the decorative feature and the glass in front of these candelabra decorations was dirty and look like it hadn’t been cleaned for quite a while. We were disappointed after driving eight hours to find out that the restaurant is closed. We did find a restaurant that was in walkable distance and had an excellent meal but, we’re disappointed that we had to leave the hotel. The next morning upon check out we were given a receipt get out to the car and notice our checkout sheet is incorrect. It was for a different person so we had to go back in and get it the corrected check out receipt. I’ve stayed at Kimpton Hotel‘s before and I’ve always been very happy. That’s why we chose this hotel but I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. I know that it’s gotten favorable comments on Tripadvisor. but I can’t stand a dirty hotel and when you pay over $300 for a night I would expect more.

We were here just the one night for our Landrover Experience which was just 5 minutes away. Its a nice hotel with friendly staff. We enjoyed the porch a lot and the bar is lively. The bar closed early but it all worked out. The room was comfortable the bathroom modern. A very good experience but for the absurd business decision to charge $35 for a resort fee. Not really a resort kind of place.

For the 5th time since its opening, we just ended a month long stay at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel and we were delighted by the experience and the memories created. The amenities, service and the delicious food prepared at their Copper Grouse Restaurant by award winning chef Nicolas Houlbert and staff Brett, Susan, Molly, Myra, Lexi, Lily and others, made out trip extra special. The hotel staff, including the new hospitable and self effacing General Manager Nick, were all eager to assist in helping make our stay exceptional. Staff such as Jennifer, Brittany, Binoy, Joe, Ted and others should be recognized for their exemplary service. Thanks to all, Nick and Connie D.

This is our fourth visit to the Taconic within 18 months and we consider it our second home in some ways. Gladys from housekeeping was very accommodating and took good care of us. And kudos to the entire front desk team. It seemed that they were short staffed but did not miss a beat. The only faults of the hotel are 1) the WiFi was terrible this visit (which was not the case the other three visits), and 2) the Cooper Grouse was closed for dinner Tuesday and Wednesday nights (which meant that we were not able to have a cocktail before and/or after dinner).

Thank you so much for your repeated loyalty and for choosing to stay with us again - it is very much appreciated. It is also greatly appreciated for the kind words on the staff members. We were aware of the glitch in the wifi last week, and can say things are back to normal now! The restaurant will also be expanding its operating hours in the coming months so we hope you will be able to get that cocktail on the next trip! We will look forward to welcoming you back next time.

We enjoyed this hotel a few times before moving west and we looked forward to a return after seven years. Time passed, but the hotel remains inviting and we enjoyed our visit just as before. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was a decent sized room with three windows and a fireplace. The room had two comfortable chairs and a nice cohesive upscale country look in beige and off white coloring. The bathroom was large with a freestanding tub, big shower, two sinks, and a frosted oval window. We definitely felt the room was worth the extra money over a standard room. The rest of the hotel looks as good as it always has and has held up well. It is all so attractive and stylish. As always we enjoyed the complimentary wine hour which over time has been reduced to one glass per guest after providing a ticket. Our one glitch was a planned breakfast at the hotel with two other guests. The restaurant does not offer a full menu during the week so we had to go elsewhere which worked out nicely, but we did not expect a full service hotel like this to not offer a full breakfast every day. The resort fee is $35 per night and parking is free. There is a small basement gym and a long narrow lap pool. The internet was weak. Charming downtown Manchester is just a five minute drive away.

Thank you so much for your review and for choosing to stay with us again, it is greatly appreciated. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and the hotel and town as a whole! We didn't quite understand the breakfast menu comments, as we serve the same breakfast menu daily. We are thinking perhaps you saw our newly launched Brunch menu on one of the weekend days instead? Brunch is something new we will be serving on Saturdays and Sundays and is essentially an extension of the regular breakfast menu but with the addition of newly created 'brunch items' to create a larger menu for this meal period. You will have to check it out next time you join us!
