We enjoyed this hotel a few times before moving west and we looked forward to a return after seven years. Time passed, but the hotel remains inviting and we enjoyed our visit just as before.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite which was a decent sized room with three windows and a fireplace. The room had two comfortable chairs and a nice cohesive upscale country look in beige and off white coloring. The bathroom was large with a freestanding tub, big shower, two sinks, and a frosted oval window. We definitely felt the room was worth the extra money over a standard room.
The rest of the hotel looks as good as it always has and has held up well. It is all so attractive and stylish. As always we enjoyed the complimentary wine hour which over time has been reduced to one glass per guest after providing a ticket.
Our one glitch was a planned breakfast at the hotel with two other guests. The restaurant does not offer a full menu during the week so we had to go elsewhere which worked out nicely, but we did not expect a full service hotel like this to not offer a full breakfast every day.
The resort fee is $35 per night and parking is free. There is a small basement gym and a long narrow lap pool. The internet was weak. Charming downtown Manchester is just a five minute drive away.

Thank you so much for your review and for choosing to stay with us again, it is greatly appreciated. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and the hotel and town as a whole! We didn't quite understand the breakfast menu comments, as we serve the same breakfast menu daily. We are thinking perhaps you saw our newly launched Brunch menu on one of the weekend days instead? Brunch is something new we will be serving on Saturdays and Sundays and is essentially an extension of the regular breakfast menu but with the addition of newly created 'brunch items' to create a larger menu for this meal period. You will have to check it out next time you join us!

The Kimpton Taconic is like our second home away from NYC - without the hassles of homeownership but with the added perks of excellent service. The staff takes the time to know guests and cater to our every whim.
Friendly service starts at check-in. Binoy at the front desk made sure that we got our favorite room. Kudos to him for handling the front desk by himself while also hosting the evening Social Hour - all with a smile (and he was back on duty 12 hours later!). After check-in, he texted us to ensure we had everything we needed.
James W was another friendly and diligent staff member who greeted us every morning and ensured that complimentary coffee and tea were always available.
We had an issue with Chromecast on our TV, but the front desk and Engineering looked into it promptly. The problem could not be resolved, so they offered us a complimentary in-room movie and waived the resort fee at check-out.
I can't say enough positive things about this property. It's one of our favorite Kimptons and why we come back several times a year. You're sure to be well taken care of here!

We first discovered the Taconic during 2020 but have returned 3-4 times a year since then. It has become a home away from home that we look forward to returning to and always have a fantastic stay. Without question, the staff is always friendly, welcoming, and enhance our overall experience. We love sitting by the fireplace on a chilly day or in the rockers on the front porch during warmer weather. We’ve fallen in love with the charm of Manchester and the Taconic is at the center of the love story. The entire property has a refined rustic vibe that encourages you to slow down, relax, and take in all that Vermont has to offer. Yes, the rooms are small but they are very functional. In high season, it can be quite pricey but a good value can be found during non-prime times. The Kimpton experience always has something unique and the Taconic leads the pack.

On an earlier trip to Vermont a year or two ago I saw the outside of the Kimpton Taconic Hotel with its wide white front porch and rocking chairs and told my husband, "That's where I want to stay the next time we visit Vermont." And so we did.
The front porch, the lobby area near the fireplace, and library area where they serve a complimentary glass of wine each night are the reasons I like this hotel. All the areas are warm, cozy, and inviting. They even have a selection of books to read and games to play. They also have a very high end (read expensive) restaurant which, unfortunately, we didn't try, but it is on our to do list for our next visit.
The grounds were nicely landscaped and lit, and the staff was congenial. One disappointment is what looked like a cozy fire pit area on their website actually sits on the edge of the entrance to their parking lot. It's a nice fire pit set-up, but there is no privacy.
Our room was comfortable and clean, but quite small. We had a room that said it had a Mountain View, but alas, no view, and unfortunately, no discernible mountain either. (A big hill in the distance behind buildings in the foreground is not a Mountain View.) This is why I didn't give the hotel five stars, but it won't prevent me from coming back.

Hi Rebecca - thank you for your review and feedback. We are so glad that you saw our porch and made that decision a year ago to stay with us - we are glad you enjoyed your time and hope it will be the first of many! We definitely recommend a visit to the restaurant next year, they do a great job and it is popular with our guests. Believe it or not, the 'hill' behind the hotel is actually called 'Equinox Mountain' so technically it is true to say!

I was looking for a pet friendly hotel within driving distance of NYC. We were travelling with our cat for the first time and decided to stay at a Kimpton. I felt very welcome by the front staff and the General Manager, Nick during my stay. Upon our arrival, the litterbox/water bowl/food bowl was all set up for our cat in the room. I truly felt welcomed by the staff during my stay and the social hour. Even the other guests were friendly and welcoming during the social hours. The fireplace in the lobby was always well kept and provided warmth and a homey atmosphere. The room was very well kept and I was surprised that it didn't smell like other pets. Our cat was crawling under the nightstands, usually the dirtiest part of any hotel. I was weary but upon my inspection, I found that there wasn't any dust or debris there! The hotel was well kept and very clean.
I had the pleasure to eat breakfast and dinner at the restaurant Copper Grouse and it didn't disappoint. All the food was fresh and local. (They list where all the food is coming from by entrance; how cool!)
Don't hesitate to book a stay at the Kimpton Taconic. Looking forward to my next visit already.

We once again had a great experience at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester. The rooms and public spaces are well appointed and welcoming. But what makes this hotel special is the exceptional customer service. From the very helpful and thoughtful valet Tylor to the hard working and considerate housekeeping staff, we really appreciated their professionalism and care. And Anne and Nick deserve a special mention for their superb guest service. We wish that the Copper Grouse was open more nights and for lunch, but want to recognize the team there, especially Kristin, Jen and the manager. We also love that the hotel is dog friendly and that there are thoughtful pet amenities.

Hospitality, food and view were all magnificent! This lovely space nestled in the Taconic Mts. met and actually surpassed all our expectations. It was immaculate and nicely appointed with everything we needed during our stay. The bed and luxury bedding were exceptional and the washroom was equipped with a magnifying mirror, walk in shower and bath robes! There was a even a yoga mat in the room! You will feel special the moment you walk in! We were greeted with a smiling face, Robert, who offered us a personable and informative introduction to our stay! We enjoyed free drinks during happy hour and a delicious gourmet meal in the in-house dining room! In the morning, a free grab and go breakfast was provided and we left with huge smiles on our faces! Thanks for the awesome hospitality, Robert!

We’ve stayed at this hotel in the past and loved it but this stay was beyond disappointing. The hotel is run with 50% of the staff it used to have. People in town say they have such a bad reputation no one will work for them. No fire in the fireplace, no bellmen and bar closes at 9:00 weekdays.
The WiFi was the worst of any hotel I’ve stayed in the last 10 years. Unusable in the rooms and with no cell coverage in the hotel, except near the porch, that means no connectivity at all.
The fireplace in our room didn’t work (which we paid extra for) and clearly didn’t work prior to our arrival. They offered to move us to a room with a better view but no fireplace rooms were available. No other accommodation was offered; not points, free drink or even an authentic apology. Made no attempt to fix it during our stay.
I asked if I could use one of the empty conference rooms to take a call on a Friday morning, because connectivity was nonexistent in my room. The front desk said “only the general manager” knows the availability of the rooms. They were locked and there was no printout on the room plaque. I can put with a lot of things but being treated like an idiot is not one.

The following is the e-mail I sent to Mr. Nick Squires, General Manager of the Kimpton Taconic following our group's visit last week.
Mr. Nick Squire
I just received your e-mail thanking me and my group for staying in your hotel. I feel compelled to thank you and your staff for making our stay so comfortable and pleasant.
Our group consists of former US Air Force officers who travel to a new destination annually to renew acquaintances, experience new places, and to have fun. I normally don't respond to letters of appreciation, but your hotel and staff merit an exception. Even though all on the hotel staff were exceptional, I wanted you to know about specific members who stood out. I'm sure there were more, but the following are a few who went over and above to make our reunion one of the best we've ever experienced.
First, was Ms. Lucrecia Johnson who went out of her way to find a wheelchair for one of our party. Lucrecia didn't have to search for the chair and dust it off for us, but she did. There were other "extras" I attribute to her but in general she anticipated our every need and took action to solve whatever problem we had.
Next, I would like you to know that your desk staff is among the best we've encountered. Specifically, I would cite Andrew and Matt. (Sorry, I didn't get last names). When we were forced to alter our second day itinerary, Andrew helped us make decision on timing, routes, etc. Then, on our final evening, one of our group came down with heat exhaustion and we thought might not be able to travel. Matt looked up routes to the hospital in Bennington, printed a map, and helped in other ways as we were dealing with a possible trip to the hospital. Thankfully, we didn't need to make the trip, but we could have, thanks to Matt. Another one of your friendly and helpful staff is a housekeeper by the name of Mary. She saw to it that we had fresh linens even when we forgot to ask. She took the initiative to recognize when we were running low in all amenities and took care of us. Finally, one member of our group reported a wobbly toilet and a dripping faucet. She told me that your master engineer responded to the call and fixed the two items plus took care of a couple of other work orders he noticed in the room. All the above are a credit to your staff members and to management as well. I learned in the military that the best thing a manager can do is instill a sense of "taking the initiative" in his/her subordinates. We saw that attitude throughout your hotel.
Thank you and them from all of your Air Force guests.
John Moore
P.S. My one regret is that I was not able to meet you personally. Perhaps another time.

A very nicely appointed hotel and a very typical New England town on a very quiet New England Main Street. The room was adequate in size and had a Mountain View. this property with its proximity to ski resorts and foliage must be quite the place in the fall in the winter. The on-site restaurant is so good that we took in three meals there and each one was better than the next fantastic food. The chef is both creative specific. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Once again you can’t go wrong and a Kimpton/IHG parking was plentiful on site close to the hotel being that it’s not an urban location that’s to be expected, if you can do not miss this one

Dear Guest,
Thank you for considering Manchester VT. and Kimpton Taconic Hotel for your upcoming trip. We are a pet friendly hotel and we do allow for multiple dogs, even if they are 65lbs each. We do not have any pet fees and we can place pet beds and bowls in the room if you need them, at no charge. Please keep in mind that our standard rooms are more intimate, 230 sq feet in size. For comfort purposes, you may want to book a larger room, considering the size of your four legged family members.
We hope to welcome you soon,
John Burnham
General Manager
I did not overstate our experience. Dogs were permitted throughout the hotel and we encountered them in all the common areas. Complaints to the hotel staff and even the response from management posted on my comments here confirmed the policy to favor the wishes of dog owners over the safety of guests. I doubt being pregnant would get you any extra consideration. I would caution you under the circumstances you mentioned.
I recommend you drop your bags at the hotel and continue on to ski at Bromley. Full disclosure--I grew up skiing at Bromley and prefer it to the crowds and more intense skiers at Stratton. It offers variety and has more challenging terrain is on the east side which is more limited than at Stratton but the mountain is easy to access and a shorter drive, less costly ticket than at Stratton. If you have two days to ski, I suggest you start at Bromley the day you drive up and then head to Stratton the next day if you want to compare. Stratton has a long access road to get to the base.
Dear Jay,
Thank you for considering staying with us at Kimpton Taconic Hotel. We have two options for golf in the area. The Equinox Country Club is located just a hop, skip and a jump from our front door. You could walk there from here or take your car as it's less than a 3 minute drive.
We also secured a unique partnership with the Manchester Country Club. This is a private course. This course is located just 3 miles from the hotel. To find out more about either option please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at 802-362-0147.
Thank you
Warmest Regards,
John Burnham
